only one that would "need" one is SH1.
2-4 have good PC ports that you can easily run at 4k if you want, and they still look very nice.
Anyway, SH thread? How about reposting the SH PC guide image + the DL links for the games?

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

SH1 is the only one that needs it. SH2 still looks pretty good, and SH3 looks fucking amazing.
P.T. didn't even feel like Silent Hill.
Cool concept but that's about it.
That's because dumbfucks at Konami lost the original files.
Screenshots of the games running? Want to know if it's worth doing this instead of dusting off my PS2
Surely the possibility is there. We've entered a very shallow and cheap-entertainment kind of era. Once this is over, and it will be over eventually, actually good games will take their rightful place in the spotlight once again. YouTube has scratched peoples way of thinking so hard that we will search for deep meanings and purpose in games.
Don't let your brain collapse like the jewish children's world as they learn about zionism! FIGHT THE JEWISH AGENDA!
Amen.
They would just be called Silent Shill
I thought the ports were always known for being kinda shoddy. Are they actually a suitable replacement for the PS2 versions?
>reminder that the ufo endings are canon and silent Hill is a simulation created by alien greys to study humans under extreme duress and observe their psychological responses. All Silent Hill protagonist are abductees which explains the missing time.
>Screenshots of the games running?
Sure thing.
>I thought the ports were always known for being kinda shoddy
False. They work very nicely. SH2 just needs that sh2proxy fix to run smooth on modern PCs.
Yes, they're fine replacements. Definitely many miles above that POS "HD Collection" on PS3/360
it doesnt need to be remade noob
also worth mentioning is that these PC ports can be easily run even on very underwhelming specs, being ~15 years old DX8 games.
My craptop with i3 + HD3000 runs SH2 beautifully at its screen's native 720p res.
>1-3
>forgetting about 4
You have shit taste
Only 4 is a messy port. I could never get it running without it going into 4:3 stretched, so I gave up and emulated the PS2 version with a widescreen hack.
4 next
I've heard good stuff about the latest fixes. Apparently, even the old 15fps cutscenes got covered now.
I will never understand why someone would go through all this and still have shit result, like fps cap, instead of emulating, with savestates and custom resolution. Only reason I can think of is toaster pc
sores on the 15fps fix?
This is how I emulate PS1 games personally. Widescreen causes tons of issues.
There's no shit results to be found in native PC games. On the contrary.
>FPS cap
the games themselves have those, if they do.
>save states
you can save anywhere you want in the PC ports. Which, in my opinion, is fucking annoying and ruins part of the experience.
>custom resolution
None of these posted images use native resolutions.
Emulation requires a lot more beef from your PC, and a lot more tweaking to get good results.
SH4 is the only game I've not tried yet on PC, so I'm just quoting past threads.
I'll give it another try next time I get the itch to replay that game. Favourite of the original 4 tbqh.
Because PS2 emulators are buggy and weird sometimes. Unless you're playing in software mode, there's always gonna be fucked up visual effects, and in software mode you can't go above native res. They also don't support widescreen natively, so you either gotta play with black bars or install the hack and deal with occasional weirdness where you can see further than the designers intended.
here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.
alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.
Nice! Post pics and results when you get around it.
The ps1 shitty hardware made the Silent Hill 1 atmosphere even creepier, I don't want a remake.
2 and 3 don't need it
SH1 is still the scariest of the first three in spite of its graphics, but a faithful remake with improved graphics and voice acting wouldn't hurt
but do you trust konami to do a good job?
SH4 would be improved if eileen died, if the second time you go through all the different worlds they were in their "otherworld" form, and if they included a flashlight and darkness for the second part of the game
also no burping women and monkey sounds
>>FPS cap
>the games themselves have those, if they do.
I dont know how many of those got solevd, but in this older version of pic there are couple listed
do they support xbox 360 controllers?
old games dont usually have xinput support
From what I recall, yes but it's a bitch to customize them. I believe they can't recognize the triggers. But I could've just fucked something up.
>the posts itt
I always feel the people posting all the PC guides are bro as fuck white people, trying to help out with shit. Easily the best post in any Silent Hill thread.
Do they need it though? Emulated SH1 looks charming and 2, 3 and 4 are the pinnacle of mid 2000s visual. FFXII, FEAR, MGS3 and Ninja Gaiden Black are only rivals to it.
I played through all of Silent Hill 1 on ePSXe with a MadCatz 360 controller.
I go to config, press the buttons on the controller to enter them and boom I can play it
yeah i was talking about the other 3 games.
i know emulators can take it, but old pc games don't usually play nice with it.
As far as I know it's directinput only. I played through them with a PS3 controller with the controls mapped the same way they are in the PS2 versions. Don't know how a 360 controller would play.
Reminded me more of Silent Hill 4 than anything else. But that in itself didn't feel a whole lot like SH 1-3, so yeah.
>"There was a hole here, it's gone now"
What did they mean by this?
Because it wasn't a demo, it was a teaser. We'll never know what the actual game was like.
I'm a pansy who's gonna start SH for the first time tonight.
On a scale from mildly uncomfortable to mentally traumatized, how spooked should I expect?
>"We'll never know what the actual game was like"
I really thought at this point we'd see concept art and they would at least chat about the gameplay ideas they had, since the game has been canceled for like a year now.
Unless they plan to still use all of that for a new game
That there was a hole there, but it was gone then.
The game relies more on unsettling atmosphere, especially with sound design and score direction. There's a couple of jumpscares, but the game wants to really settle deep down inside your mind and creep you out, rather than get cheap spooks out of you.
Hope you like it!
