Yes, the quest characters are horribly written but Torgue is right:

Friendzoning is a dumb concept which is mostly just assholes thinking women shouldn't be sex vending machines that accept the currency of general niceness.

If someone doesn't like you in a romantic or sexual way and you do, then it's just bad luck, just because you were nice to them doesn't oblige them to do anything except return general politeness.

basically. Shame the writing used to express it was so unnatural and stupid which is the real problem of Borderlands. It would have been easier and more in keeping with the setting to just write someone who bitches about being friend-zoned with no self awareness so it's easy for the player to see the flaws. That said, I suspect they know the audience is too dumb to see anything beyond face value.

the idea of the friendzone exists in the sense someone can use to to explain their situation, but in reality it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. You are only really friendzoned if you think you are, others just accept someone doesn't want them and moves on.
