When you have a fandom at such a large scale, I wouldn't think so.

For an indie game, FNAF had that scare factor, it added errieness perfectly.
But most FNAF fans don't care about the gameplay, they care about the characters and the lore.
Blame the youtubers that gave it attention.

People liked the atmosphere, characters, and backstory. Well, there wasn't much of a serious story in the first game. It was more comedic if anything.

That's not what happened at all

It turned into a massive clusterfuck starting with 4, but it was reasonable during 1 and 2.

Freddy's originated from a local pizza joint with Animatronics that got picked up by the Jews, who planned to make it into Chuck E Cheese.
Local joint goes under after a kid who was bullied by his older brother accidentally gets chomped by the Fredbear Animatronic, slips into a coma, of which FNaF4 takes place in and eventually dies.
Jew Company shoves the incident under the rug and successfully turns the local joint into Freddy's, complete with a rebranding to do away with older animatronics and their history.
Freddy's quickly ends up suffering from a murderer simply known as Purple Guy, an Ex-Employee from before Fredbear's Bite, who kills several children outside of and in the pizzeria.
The coma kid's spirit later takes control of the Puppet, a new character made for the rebranding and ends up doing some voodoo bullshit that allows the other kids to possess the older models of the Animatronics. FNAF2 happens, as well as the infamous Bite of 87 that made Freddy's fall apart.
Old Animatronics are preserved and rebuilt, Jews try to open up again hoping enough time has passed that nobody remembers the bite.
FNaF1 happens, and then Freddy's is closed and abandoned.
Purple Guy comes back to wreck the Animatronics, The freed spirits spook him into an old Hybrid Animatronic Suit, he ends up dying because of faulty Springlocks, and is left to rot until even further ahead into the future, a Horror Attraction based on the rumors and stories is made and one of the employees dig up the Hybrid without knowing what's inside.
Turns out the suit is haunted by Purple, and FNaF3 happens. Horror Attraction burns down because of faulty wiring, the Night Guard or Purple, and Purple is implied to have survived as the series currently stops here. Nothing is known about where Sister Location fits or if it's even Canon, and FNaFWorld is nothing more than a playable shitpost.
