Have you ever had "the talk" with your parents? And by that I mean "You spend too much time in front of your video games/computer!"
How did you respond?
Have you ever had "the talk" with your parents...
Fuck off mother, i'll use your credit card however i want!
They watch like 6 hours of TV a day so I tell them to fuck off.
Got a good Job and moved out
>tfw my parents didn't mind what I did in my free time since I had good grades
forgot my image
diagnosed with autism since I was 3, they don't give a shit that I'll never amount to anything and neither will I
I would tell her "but you never let me go out" and then we would argue.
I hated that shit, if I wanted to go outside it was "no" but if I stayed inside it was "you're spending too much time inside"
My parents are dead
moved out as soon as I was financially stable
mom tried to be a controlling bitch in all aspects of my life
now I:
eat/sleep
work
video games
thats literally all I do, and I love it
don't try to justify it
try changing the subject or just ignore them
parents are relentless and aren't open minded enough to accept the time put into games or your computer
I feel your pain.
They tried. Then I told my dad he spends more time in front of a computer than I do, and he drinks while he does it too.
Quickly shut them up.
I won a state level tournament and got enough money to buy them a used BMW. That got em to fuck right off.
Playing what?
My parents played video games. RPGs and grand strategy, mostly. And they still kicked me out of the house after a couple hours. And thank Christ, otherwise I'd be a NEET virgin shut-in like you always dreamed of.
Had that talk when I was 7. Ended up being restricted to 1 hour a day, but I always found ways around that (thank you portable systems)
Now I'm an adult and they stopped giving a shit because I work and socialize, and I'm free to use my time as I please, even if they think it's a shit hobby
>Dad moans all the time that im on the internet constantly, threatens me and tells me hell cut my internet and take my computer away
>buys a laptop on his own now hes on the internet all the time watching dumb pranks and cat videos, cant download stuff or upload videos cos im leeching off his internet
Is it just me or is my dad a complete fuckhead? Cos he literally never admits hes wrong
>"You're spending too much time infront of your computer!"
>"Yeah but only until my friends wake up, then I go outside"
>"Well thats true... Just try to cut down on the computer playing"
>"Will do"
I feel sorry for everyone who had "computer time" and so on.
Your dad sounds like a woman.
Like every day since I graduated 4 years ago :^)
>parents watching the same mindless shit for hours on end in silence
>"user get off your online game, come be socialable"
reeeeee
Yeah, when I was like 10 years old and fat.
Then I lost weight by the time I reached high school and had a "social life" since I always was hanging out with friends. Friends that hold parties. Friends like the ones that you see in the movies and TV shows with popular kids. Friends that forget about you as soon as college starts.
Now I'm 23 and I spend most of free time doing what I did as a child - sitting in my room, staring at screen. Alone. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
My Mom doesn't care because I go to school. Gotta get that degree/////
Move out to some cheap neiborhood and get a hob once you're 18
>user come be social with the family and watch this tv show with us
What I did was plan when they come home and then make sure I was exercising. Buy a used treadmill cheap or a set of weights for the garage. When they see you exercising you spend an extra 10 minutes doing that then go spend a few minutes with them inside. Tell them you stink then go jerk off and take a shower. Your excuse now becomes: "I'm too tired to do anything else." It makes them think you're doing something and not wasting your life. But mostly they are personally too tired to exercise after work and think you're better than them so they give you less shit. Now they think they're better than you because they pity your computer only life. Flip the script.
Side bonus you get a little more fit.
My mom actually destroyed a video game in front of me because I bought it when I was like 14 and she said I should have saved money for Mother's Day. Constantly get shit about playing games, constant threats of taking my games away, parents force me to stop playing for a few days, even though I play maybe 5 maybe 6 hours a day, but that's mostly in the evening.
I also got good grades and they were still a paint in my ass
>What's with your friends? What are they doing? Do you think they spend all day at home sitting in front of the computer?
You aren't accomplishing anything with that you fuck. Whenever my normie friends text me I make something up and say I can't.
No, I thought she would have said something by now, but she hasn't.
Nope. My parents both had jobs and commutes that had away from the house for the majority of the day so I basically did whatever the fuck.
Im 24. But my job pays for shit so i cant move out
I don't ever remember having such a talk, to be honest unless I was outright being a waste of space I doubt I ever will.
My mom told me i was addicted to video games once. She was probably right, but then again i have nothing better to do with my time.
My dad plays as much video games as I do. I can see him on steam playing Skyrim right now, (yeah, he's a casul) while I sit here bored, waiting on Overwatch and shitposting on Sup Forums.
>It's TBBT
Dear god, this.
>user, come sit and stare at the TV with us.
>user, those aren't real people, you can stop and they'll be there when you get back. Swear to god this was only used during actual, live, multiplayer games and never during single player or even AI multiplayer.
>user, why would you spend $15 every month to play one game with your friends instead of $50 every month to go to the movies with your friends three times?
>user, are you even playing that game, or are you just going to stare at the map editor all weekend?
I wasn't a degenerate and my grades didn't suffer from addiction to computers and games so my parents never cared. The only thing my mom was mildly annoyed by was the fact that I had the modem tied up all day long on weekends and all night after homework.
BBS surfing with that 300bps modem. Good times.
same
well except for the dad part
I am debating if I should move to a cheap neighborhood. There is an apartment for 550 a month, the problem is, is in the middle of the slums and there is only niggers and Hispanics around. I get freedom but I don't want to get shot, just because I'm white.
How is that show even still running? It doesnt even follow the same formula that it started with
>Was a bunch of shut in nerds with a hot girl next door
>Now they are all married normies that kinda like video games and comic books
I've been getting it constantly for years
it doesnt help that I got kicked out of college last semester and haven't told them yet
my whole life ive been living on borrowed time, awaiting the consequences of my constant fucking around in front of a screen
ive always been able to cover it up but now I'm gonna have to wake up and smell the shitflowers
Just ignored them. They give up eventually.
maybe you do, user
>she said I should have saved money for Mother's Day
why are women insane?
Just avoid section 8
Oh and before you sign the lease spend at least one night sitting outside in your car in the parking lot to see what kind of people are around there. Look for people just loitering outside. Niggers don't have stoops in apartment complexes so they sit outside chain smoking.
my nigga
If you haven't moved out by 20 you deserve to have the talk.
It's terrible now that half of the show is dedicated to women.
It used to be at least a little entertaining watching a bunch of losers and Stacy
>get As and Bs
>parents never really care since I do pretty well, only get detention a few times in my life usually because of something my friends dragged me into
>only times they do want to be outside is during the summer where they kick me out of the house for an hour and tell me to enjoy the outside
>have to stay outside in 100+ degree (F) weather
>would usually just sneak my gameboy out and just go hide under a tree or something
I forgot all about that til just now.
Do you regret some things? Like did you have friends that you don't have now and think "man, it's a shame"
After a few years of strenuous issues my mom and I realized we and our relationship were really fucked up so we worked on the issues, including perceiving each others' interests and hobbies as invalid or worthless.
I can actually play vidya in peace now.
My mom just didn't want me losing sleep because I'm up watching porn.
Alright gramps. How is paying off the mortgage going?
back in the day? i nod and put a face of shame because if i answer i got my shit slapped
>Work paper route (and eventually other things) as a child to make money for video games
>Desperately want runescape membership and can pay it 10 times over every month if I needed to.
>Be child and cannot into credit cards
>Literally beg my mom to use her and me pay her back so I can access member-gameplay
>"user hackers are online and they try and steal my credit card info if I put it out there on some shady website"
>Use every logical path in the book.
>Finally caves after about 6 months and lets me pay her back to play.
Bear in mind my mother is the type of woman to pay with check instead of her card at the grocery, still to this day.
And it gets worse.
>She absolutely would not let the membership be reoccurring payment, she figured the company would end up overcharging her.
>Remind her every day for the week leading up to the payment renewal and she would always put it off.
>I would regularly have 3-5 day stretches at after my membership ran out because of this as a regular player.
>Cant even do anything since my bank is overfilled and I don't want to risk dying and losing all my shit.
>It was horrible as an indoors kid.
if wagecucks' lives improve so much by having a job then why are they always making /r9k/ threads and tired gamer threads and everything but actual video games
Gone Home
I just said that I worked harder than they did, because I had to deal with both school and a job. They got home at 5, and I didn't get home until 9.
>You go out too much!
>You stay in your roon all day!
>You go out toi much and when you are home you stay in your room all day!
all of my friends went to different colleges across the state, and then moved even further after graduation
I made new professional work friends, and two of them play vidya, so we have stuff to talk about
My distant friends still exist, but I dont get to interact with them much
so tldr, no I dont regret anything
>boomer
moving out was entirely an American phenomenon of the 70's, is no longer applicable because of so much economic fuckery by the boomers themselves, promoted by boomers because housing speculation bubbles is what made them all their money
a $20,000 piece of crap house is $1,000,000 at min now
kill yourself
shit taste
Women are just annoying.
>complain I don't have a job
>find one in silicon valley
>now they complain I should come back
Fuck the cake and eat it too generation of parents. If they didn't want me to work the wageslave mines and have stable income with 2+ kids by 25, they shouldn't have voted Republican for a decade straight.
I used to spend tons of time playing vidya, but since I got good grades and the teachers loved me, they left me to do what I want.
And now Im a bit older and I play less vidya due to money issues, though Im now playing PC98 hentai games on my laptop and other vidya, and girls at my work place want my dick.
got limited to an hour a day as a kid for years, plus I couldn't play command&conquer on sundays (lol)
joke's on them though. now I do nothing else 14 hours a day every day while they work to support me
they played their cards too early if you ask me, maybe if they wouldn't have done shit like that while I was actually working hard in school, I wouldn't have ended up as such a fag by the time I got my own income to buy vidya (I don't work any more though lmao)
yeah I'm a but salty, but I can't argue with free food and rent, feels good to be a manchild
>/r thingsitellmytherapist
No, because I've realized being a NEET is miserable, for me anyway, and even more so doing it on purpose. Of course being a wage slave is also miserable, so I'm just trying to figure out what lifestyle has some sort of balance or rewarding work. I don't think my parents have ever thought me playing video games kept me from being responsible. They have come after me for plain being irresponsible, but they never tried to pin it on anything other than me being lazy or avoiding things. My dad is basically a WoW addict though, so I think they "get it" as far as video games as a hobby go. My parents are pretty fucking rad.
No shit, Sherlock
I'm a programmer.
>Republican
not excusing republicans but the current economy is Democratic fallout
Bush W. might have not payed for his pointless war, but Democrats have building up welfare like there is no tomorrow for the last 30 years
>user those people you're talking to arent real
>they're not real friends now go out and play with your real friends
Yeah 5 years later and these not real people came up with their not real car and we chilled for a week. You fuck.
"I KNOOOW MOM"
Usually followed by being annoyed with her.
Then I realize how much I dissappoint both of my parents, and how much potential I threw away at being lazy in front of the vidya.
I'm 28 now. Wish I could go back to drawing like I used to 10 years ago.. I just don't think it'll get me anywhere.
Sometimes I wish I would just get hit by a truck and lose a leg so I could get disability money for the rest of my sad life. I'm disgusted with myself.
my parents are too kind/weak to have that talk with me
they did imply it tho
I also fucking hate this shit.
I literally wrote a script to ease my mother's current workload massively, she hasn't bitched at me for ages.
Woah! easy there, Autismo. Don't want your mom to see what you are typing. She might take away some of your good boy bucks
That brings me back to Newground's prime. My parents used to kick me and my best friend and neighbor to play outside, but we would just sneak to an internet cafe just 2 blocks from my house. They had a pool table, some arcade machines and computers, of course. We became regulars and the owner sometimes gave us free donuts and other snacks. I even bought a cool ass majora's mask poster from them.
Shit was really cash.
A little. They never go extreme on it since I have a job, but they want me to get out more
>Over shelter your kid all through middle and highschool
>Now socially stunted
>Now accustomed to being indoors
>How come you're always inside lol
They used to always tell me that "OMG your out of your cave shit" and always told me to go out. But since I had a pc and no games would play on it, I got good at fixing them and expirementing with them. Now I am the one that handles all the finances, taxes, car shit, IT shit in this house. Showed them.....right?
Same with my dad, but after he had hit his fourties he started to play nostalgia games
Congraturation
This story is happy end
Thank you
my mother complained a lot, why don't you go outside user, why don't you move your ass user, why don't you let your asshole breathe user, etc.
i know she is right. my grades are not good, i am about to graduate and i didn't even find a job.
>Friends
>TFW all your friends did absolutely nothing after high school and you went to trade school and are making great money
At least I have been playing video games with the same guys I met 4 years ago.
>they spend more time playing games than me
>they spend more time sitting around doing nothing than me
>I exercise more than them *they don't*
>have multiple hobbies that don't require me to sit around doing nothing
>most of my work is computer stuff so when I'm working it's on the computer
>Have the talk
>"Don't you think you spend too much time on that computer?"
All the time when I was younger. They always compared me to my friends and said how they probably didn't play as much games as me.
Then when my friends would come over they'd end up playing a lot more games than I ever did and my parents try to ignore it.
>How did you respond?
you dont
passively not giving a fuck is the most effective way
kinda
>user why don't you do anything
>I don't like anything
>o-ok
"Oh look it's king Tut who's finally left his throne"
"Going up to your cave, Tom?"
Took my most of my life to realize he wasn't joking around and was actually making fun of me.
Nope, mum used to be huge into ps1 games and every so often i walk in on her playing simcity.
Feel pretty lucky for that after reading some of these other posts
i wish my mom and dad gave me that talk. The most my mom would do is encourage me to hang with friends or give me money to go to a movie to hang out with friends.
Now I'm a fat lazy loser that still plays games and visits Sup Forums.
My mom was always great about it. I was a good kid and got good grades, and had other major interests like reading. She played some games back in the SNES days, as well as games like Pacman.
There were times she complained, but it was more that Ii played too much than that I was playing at all.
My older brother actually complained more than her most of the time.
My mom and dad would just say I don't know what you do all day when the subject comes up and leave it at that.
My dad said he won't remove his curse on me until I quit playing "those demonic vidyas"
they have "infilirated" my mind
if you are over the age of 20 and still live with your parents you are pathetic
>the my son has autism answer
RED FLAG!!!
did they get you a psychiatrist so that you wouldn't kill yourself?
>Be 23 years old me
>Loves to play vidya and watch movies/series
>I don't have enough peace at home to do any of this
>Lots of issues at home, mom and dad getting into a bunch of financial problems due to stupid reasons
>Parents fighting all the time and getting a divorce
>Literally have more peace at work them at home
>Purposely work at weekends just so i can have time for myself
>I luckily get the chance to study abroad
>I had to literally go across the world just to have some time for vidya and for myself
>Had to come back in the beginning of this year
>MFW everything is happening again and i don't have much time for vidyar
The only time i actually have for vidya is when everyone is sleeping.
How do you keep that covered up?
Don't your parents ask you about your student status for taxes? Do you forge documents? Where do you go when it's time for "class"? Ride the bus? Library? (disregard if not american,I guess)
I wouldn't get away with that for 5 minutes.
we wuz self made an shit
