Why arent you a game dev yet ?
Why arent you a game dev yet ?
Because making a game is hard and takes time.
It's alot easier now.
The time it takes is real though.
you can either go for something simple and easy to make but it'll probably be shit or you can actually try to do something worthwhile and put a little bit more into it.
the problem with this though is you are either doing it for free or risking alot of wasted time for a pay off or nothing.
I actually plan on getting laid in my lifetime.
Or just remake an old flash game to sell for phones and tablets.
I've heard the conditions are shit. Long hours, little pay, loads of work. Plus it's gotta be pretty boring to work on the same project for 2+ years.
I am one. It's not as fun as you think. Especially when you're starting from the bottom. Then you go to a conference and see how well off the major companies are, wishing you had their money and fame so you could do something better with it.
I'm not a numale
can't program and can't art. can make mediocre music for now though
Because I need to feed my wife's son
I tried to learn how to program but I quit because I'm a retard and if I want to pick it back up I have to go back a way and a half because at this point I forgot most of what I learned
I'm dumb, lazy, and not creative.
I'm not very smart when it comes to actual coding. I would literally invest, run errands, if I can be taught to do some menial coding stuff that takes time and no one wants to do it, doesn't actually require brain power to do, recruit people, run PR stuff on social networking etc. I would sign up.
Haven't sucked enough cocks yet.
Because I like video games.
Shit money, get treated like garbage by 90% of employers (perpetual "crunch time"), and you have to deal with shithead Sup Forumsirgins bashing everything you do.
I'd rather get paid to coast at an easy mundane job and shitpost than actually have to work for money :^)
I'm not creative. I simply cannot make anything that isn't a parody or replica
Because I want a well-paying job with no overtime, obviously.
If everything else fails, I will try to get into gamedev though.
Shouldn't be hard in Stockholm with C++ experience.
Originality is overrated and used wrong. You can make parody and replicas cause a lot of things in the industry are built on top of existing ideas. It's all about giving it a new coating or twist. That's the trick.
Dumb cuck poster.
Because I won't enjoy the games I make.
Because I despise coding and computer work.
its not my type of work, i would love to try and make a big game but i dont have patience.
i like working in a warehouse instead
Literally, just coding. If I could do that, we'd have better games.
I am.
Didn't expect that, did you fag?
Normal maps are hard and frustrating to make
Because web development is more appealing and offert better options.
post boipussi
>how well off the major companies are, wishing you had their money and senpai
Here's where your lie fell apart. Unless youre QA freshmeat and think PAX is a convention.
Because the last thing I want to do when I already work with computers, is to actually do things for other computers
I'm building up dev experience outside of the games industry, so that they can't give me the dick and toss me aside so easily when I finally decide that I hate free time and happiness.
Was speaking about GDC.
I'll stick to concept art thanks.
Because i'm an idea guy and no one like us.
Then youre not actually vested in the industry if you think that. Only the VR meme had a decent showing there. The pc/console division are all struggling to stay afloat in the mobile tempest and their shitty turnout reflected it.
What's Tim Sweeney doing at a Frostbite showcase? Aren't they his rivals?
>tfw no DaS + Arma
I'm not prepared to a) make pixelshit or b) become a publisher's codemonkey and drive franchises into the ground
because you're fucking useless
>Then youre not actually vested in the industry if you think that.
Damn right I'm not. The industry is shit right now. GDC and pax simply confirmed it even more. When the showings at gdc had less to do with development and more to do with memevr, I knew our industry basically lacked the drive to get somewhere.
>there aren't producers
If you think Vonderhaar does anything except backseat dev..
why does Sup Forums hate Dice?
not motivated enough to go to programming class
not motivated enough to learn it on my spare time
i've mustered up enough motivation a couple of times to try and learn it myself but I always end up giving up after a few days and going back to doing nothing all day
fuck
>Battlefront
They're awful, to say the least.
Because I plan on doing a Computer Science for university that has a few units that focus on vidya.
I think that's a better way to get into the industry than doing a course purely on game design, w-what do you think?
>Sup Forums is this retarded that they can't even shitpost correctly
Dark Souls + ARMA
Dude i've designed games just for fun and sometimes it reaches almost 200 pages of just gameplay mechanics, menu designs, level design and the basics of the story and characters.
You always need someone with a good imagination in your team, nay, leading your team.
And they're all shit.
Hm?
But I am, OP. I've been making games as a hobby for 10 years.
Everyone has ideas. What makes you special?
They work way harder and get paid way less than people with the same skill sets in other fields.
When he started he was 29 and had only a social science degree.
What's your excuse.
