Yeah you can drift pretty good in Gran Turismo.
A good indicator of great physics in a racing game is the ability to drift because it is really just using the physics to move the car like that.
A game which doesn't allow you to drift doesn't have real physics applied to the car in all situations, like Project Cars.

With the right cars and somewhat easy driving mastery youll be driving like a nascar drifting legend.
Its pretty rewarding when you can drive from point a to point b in record time with no crashing and minimal damage done to your car
In gta 5, when you exit the city from the north, theres this downhill thats something out of initial d. You can drift every curve going at relatively high speed just as long as you control it right. Ive only done that downhill perfectly one time when i was drunk

You can in GX, holding both shoulder buttons down while turning will initiate a drift, I dont know about X or the original game though.

Do yourself a favour and start with grand prix, story mode is brutal for a beginner, Ive beat half the cups on master mode, but Ive yet to beat chapter 7 of the story mode. Youll need to git somewhat gud still, but playing on normal mode is pretty manageable, its a fun game.

It was pretty heretical, there was almost no traffic on the road and very few corners on a decent downhill, and he was hardly breaking 70 km/h, admittedly the few corners that are there are all hairpins and he doesnt know how to drift, but still. This mountain is right next to my house, once I learn to drift, Im gonna spend so much time up there, for more than just hiking.
