Got ya covered senpai

Mother 3 is the only good game in the series so it's at least on par with the Sonic series
sonic is a terrible series.
That's just too bad.
It was once a good series with some lackluster titles mixed in up until November 2006.
He got his momentum back a few years later but it was all lost by Sonic Lost World.
Sonic is a series saved only by the popularity it had, he should've died when he went 3D.
Except for Generations, no 3D game is objectively good, they are just badly designed games with "good moments" in them.
Hopefully SEGA will get their shit together and expand on the Generations playstyle
>objectively good
subjectively*
Holy shit user this is some great bait! I love it man keep it up!
>It was once a good series
Sonic was always shit
thanks, I've truly worked the Undertale/Mother marks
>Sonic was always shit
Reddit down?
Too bad they said don't expect the series to be like that anytime soon, which was 4-5 years ago.
It still hurts, i remember liking the old games a lot. I think the Sonic franchise has been the epitome of "Interesting ideas with horrible executions"
SA1 Could've been good if they got rid of Amy, Gamma and Big and used that development time to increase the quality of things like voice acting, cutscene animations and gameplay
SA2 could've been better if they went with the original plan of playing as Sonic, Eggman and Knuckles instead of making you essentially replay the game twice
Heroes would've been good if it was just one team with more refined gimmicks and mechanics instead of just making you replay the game 4 times
Shadow the Hedgehog could've been somewhat good to dwell in the only character that has a backstory, but they completely jumped the shark and just banked on Shadow's popularity
And so the list goes on and on. They had a winning formula with the classics, i just don't get how you can fuck it up so much.
And even then, they have a winning formula again with the Generations playstyle and what do they do? Nah, that's a bad idea
SEGA is a terrible gaming company, not only with Sonic
I would've kept the classic design for Adventure and onwards like it was planned
Not just the characters, but the level design and overall art direction as well, it fits Sonic more
SA1 would have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, a different Amy, Nack, and Metal Sonic
Also there would be less awkward cutscenes and more areas for Sonic to roll around in as if he were in a pinball machine
I'd keep the music though
>Sega hasn't made a mix between sonic adventure 2 and sonic generations modern sonic yet
Why?
>Name one thing Phantasy Star has that Mario doesn't.
I think Sonic CD was a perfect example of how big the cast should've been.
because they are just bad developers, did you know they stopped the production of '06, they syphoned some team members and they were ordered to work on Shadow the Hedgehog?
Also, this guy. He could've been the rival of Knuckles, while Sonic moved on to Shadow.
Sonic CD is everything good about Classic Sonic wrapped in a simple package. I know that S&K has a shit ton of content, but Sonic CD is a masterpiece because of it's simplicity and mastery of the Sonic formula.
>Sonic CD is everything good about Classic Sonic wrapped in a simple package
>no Knuckles
And shadow the hedgehog wasn't even that great. Why?
Not that i dislike those characters, Shadow was interesting but i wish that he stayed dead, came back as a robot or never showed up at all to begin with. I wish they kept Fang in the handheld games as an anti-hero
Shadow was really interesting when we didn't know crap about him, Maria and Gerald
I love CD because of the artstyle, the timetravel setting was fun and simple and let's be honest, CD amy is best Amy
Gameplay wise, 2 and 3&K was better. Sonic CD had levels too vertical for my taste, it was intentional to help you backtrack to get the robot generators but still, some stages were a bit annoying
Why what? You are asking me why Shadow the hedgehog wasn't great?
Both series suck. The only good piece of Sonic is the Sonic Unleashed demo on xbox.
...
I just don't know how you can fit Shadow outside SA2, i think the only thing you can do with him is making him a "bully" character
The classic games are good, and so is Generations. Sonic Unleashed day is fun too.
why they didn't give full time to the anniversary sonic. It's just dumb as hell
The classic games are not good. Only played the Sonic Generations demo and it was retro Sonic in all 2D level. It sucked ass. Out of the demos I've played, Sonic Unleashed is the best game by far.
Shadow was a popular character at the time, and since the fans liked him a lot they decided to bank on that idea
I think this is a perfect example of why you should never listen to the fans
What was it about the classics that you don't like that you do like about Unleashed? Not shitposting here, i'm genuelly curious
I mean his revival in sonic heroes wasn't that bad, he might not even be the original, but making him a full game is like nintendo makes a rosalina game because she's so popular.
And after that they just said fuck it put only sonic as a playable character. Not even tails or knucks, just sonic, with family guy levels of comedy. Wish sega wasn't complete shit.
Basically a Wario-type guy that shows up to fuck your day up. Sometimes he has his own agenda, sometimes he's working with Eggman or whatever
Make him Bass essentially.
No stupid complex back story either. keep it simple
Good Sonic games list
Sonic 1 (Can't go wrong with the original, good platforming, 2013 version I recommend)
Sonic 2 (Improves immensely on the original, and it allows more room for Sonic to go fast, also introduces based Tails and Super Sonic, 2013 version recommended)
Sonic CD (interesting gimmick, beautiful art design and music, Amy and Metal Sonic)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles (the total package of Sonic, it also has based Knuckles)
Sonic Adventure (flawed, but fucking fun)
Sonic Adventure 2 (flawed, but fucking fun, this time with multiplayer, improved Chao, and emblems to collect)
Sonic Unleashed (day stages anyway)
Sonic Colors (3D Sonic game with a hint of 2D, fun)
Sonic Generations (good levels, nostalgia trip)
Sonic Rush (Fast for those who want fast, and it has Blaze)
Sonic Rush Adventure (see above, also Sonic is a pirate or something)
Sonic Advance 1-3 (goes back to the roots of the originals while keeping it fresh)
They just need to know what people and ideas to take into consideration.
Like they probably should have ignored the people who wanted Sonic the Hedgehog to have guns
Not fast at all. The physics are apparently the highlight and outside of a few hills to roll down, they didn't affect anything and had a terribly slow acceleration/walking speeds. I prefer 3D games in general but liked how Unleashed intertwined both 2D and 3D together. And the camera was more dynamic in Unleashed which let you see what was coming up much better. This is a dumb complaint but might as well get it out there, the graphics in Unleashed were phenomenal and still hold up to this day. One of the best looking games I've ever seen and it was done on consoles. And of course, the SPEED. Sonic Unleashed was the fastest game I've ever played and to see it continue to stream data as fast as it did was a testament to the talent behind it.
The other modern character I'd use other than Shadow is this one right here
I think you should play the actual classics, they're technically not the same. I mean it's the closest modern Sonic has gotten as far as physics go, but they aren't identical. Even level design wise they aren't the same.
>Out of the demos I've played, Sonic Unleashed is the best game by far.
Well good thing you only played the demo. I'm pretty sure the demo left out the slightly below mediocre brawler than you spend the majority of the game in
Ironicly the best part of that game was the guns
The point a lot of people make is that Rouge is all the time with him in Heroes and she never tells him what she knows about the original Shadow, no one does even though they all know
Unleashed has fantastic production values, it was fun to blaze through shit as Sonic, but unfortunately Sonic makes up for what could be 35-40% of the entire game. Werehog was just boring and bad
This is the point i'm making when i say "The games are just badly designed", they seem to get Sonic somewhat right but they fuck it up because of things that shoudn't even be there. I want to play a Sonic game because of Sonic
I understand what you mean with your opinion on the classics. The slow acceleration/walking speeds are supposed to be fixed with the spindash
Blaze has a cool design but i just don't get the appeal of this character
I've played Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 years ago. Sonic 1 is a terrible, terrible video game after Green Hill. Sonic 2 has a few cool stage themes but is just completely unremarkable since theres so many walls, spikes, and enemies you run into. I don't remember anything specific I just remember it sucking ass and never wanting to replay it again.
I should've specified, I actually did buy Sonic Unleashed. I got through Apotos but couldn't trudge through another night level. In retrospect Apotos Night actually wasn't that bad, it was just so completely different than what the day levels played like. I think I still have the game. I should go back to it and beat it finally now that it sits with me better. I remember...brawling and platforming which isn't a bad combo at all. Sure its not going extremely fast but on its own it was kinda fun oddly.
But holy fuck did I replay that demo hundreds of times. Still remember my best time...2:07. If you drifted with the triggers you could go SUPER FUCKING FAST. God damn I want to play it now
But that's stupid, Shadow is not, and only ever was a bad guy once, for one time, and even then it was based on a misremembered promise from a murdered friend, and let's not forget that Gerald literally did the same thing too.
He had a bit of edge in his own game as well, but all of that was optional, and non-canon. Shadow has never been anything but a good guy outside of the beginning half of sonic adventure 2.
>Sonic 1 is a terrible game after Green Hill
>I can't beat any level after Green Hill*
FTFY
She's just sonic but spins sideways instead of doing summersault spins like sonic. Oh and last 40 seconds instead of 30 seconds underwater like sonic does, which is weird considering she's a cat that uses fire
She's a cute shy autist, she's not really much like Sonic.
I beat the game fampai. Its completely unremarkable and a slow middling platformer after Green Hill. Kind of stupid to advertise Sonic as a fast cool guy and then end up playing Mario levels. Sonic Unleashed is the closest game in the series to understanding this and lets you move full speed ahead. Granted there's the night levels but those are probably there to keep the game from being 2 hours long. I really need to start a fresh save and go in with an open mind to it again. What I am certain about is though, I'd rather replay a night level if they're structured like Apotos than EVER touch the turd that is Sonic 1 again.
If that's your opinion that's your opinion, i disagree since i can actually play the game and beat them really fast, maybe it's stage memorization but i do have a lot of fun replaying S2 or 3. Sonic 1 is the first game in the franchise user, i can excuse a few things here and there. It was a solid platformer for its time
I am a sucker for Unleashed aswell, i love that game but i can't say it is a good game considering how badly it is designed user
She's just Sonic with the magical power to learn lessons and not be a 2 dimensional hero figure. She basically starts off like a Stoic Shadow-figure, then learns lessons, blah blah wrapped in black, now she's just the Sonic of her universe.
She really is just her universe's counterpart to Sonic, with her own emeralds and super form and everything.
I just don't want to leave her to rot. That would be a waste of a character
>I've played Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 years ago. Sonic 1 is a terrible, terrible video game after Green Hill.
Why though? It's a solid, momentum based platformer. Not too difficult, not too easy, just right.
>Sonic 2 has a few cool stage themes but is just completely unremarkable since theres so many walls, spikes, and enemies you run into.
It's pretty forgiving, especially compared to Sonic 1.
I don't see why this guy can't show up anymore. He is a good rival character.
Yeah, and that's not a useful character, so change him into a better one.
>What I am certain about is though, I'd rather replay a night level if they're structured like Apotos than EVER touch the turd that is Sonic 1 again.
A night level is the exact opposite of what you're looking for. From my understanding you want blistering speed without any stops, the night levels are the exact opposite of that, the very exact opposite.
Blaze is NOT cute!
Its just that there is nothing going for regarding Blaze, she is just a moody girl with a superiority complex, maybe if they developed her a little more it could turn out to be something
He is a really cartoonish villain, i don't find him scary or threatening. I still find Metal Sonic to be the best villain besides Eggman
Blaze is the best.
Being an angrier Sonic who HMMPHS a lot isn't exactly a great niche to fill. Especially if he doesn't have the decency to fight for a different team.
Blaze IS CUTE!
They're not bordeline broken, and have good stories.
He's just sonic with a tragic backstory and a love of machinery that branches into either vehicles or firearms and he works for the government.
He's a comedic devil sitting on Sonic's shoulder, or more like Vegeta to Sonic's Goku, which is fine because they can both go super saiyan.
Since Sonic Team probably misread what made Sonic 06 bad, we're probably never going to get an ankle deep story from any Sonic Game ever again, so Shadow becoming more than Black Grunting Sonic is probably never going to happen.
Generations at least had him as a decent rival battle and bit player.
>good stories
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
>not borderline broken
any good Sonic game
Thats fine and you probably like it because you grew up with it and all you could really do back then is replay games since they were expensive as fuck and hard. I always just thought sonic was supposed to be fast and cool and blaze through levels. All you do in the old games is run into walls and spikes unless you replay the same shit levels hundreds of times. As kids it was cool but going in as an adult, I just don't have the time or patience for it. I can't speak for Unleashed in full since I only ever beat Apotos. But I can't agree that its badly designed.
Not like the old games are any better about this. Unless you spend dozens of hours replaying bad levels you can never just go fast. For me with Unleashed it went, 2-3 times to get a grasp of the engine and controls. And another 5-15 times learning the level. And then way later I discovered that drifting lets you go faster than the games cap.
So yes they are the complete opposite, but at least they're 3D and not as frustrating.
>i don't find him scary or threatening.
Doesn't that seem exactly like the direction Sega has been trying to take the franchise though?
A good RPG
I think you mean
>they both have batshit insane stories
I'm sorry, but a last second plot device where you need your souls to be inserted into robots to go to another dimension to fight a giant fetus dropped on you last second is not good storytelling.
evil pigs
Best handheld Sonic Boss ever.
youtube.com
Contemporary to some other mainline bosses as well. Why Rush wasn't in Generations is a question worthy of jail time.
...
Well it is aimed to be sold to kids afterall, maybe you are right. I would say i prefer Fang to the D6, i'm pretty sure he shows more personality
...
Well that's more games to add to the list
Official Sonic cast as it should be
Main characters:
Sonic The Hedgehog
Miles "Tails" Prower
Dr. Eggman/Dr. Robotnik
Knuckles The Echidna
Amy Rose
Metal Sonic
Supporting characters:
Fang The Sniper
Shadow The Hedgehog
Blaze The Cat
Chaos
Minor:
The Chaotix
The Chao
Bark
Bean
Big :)
The night levels are brawler based stages, and seeing as pure speed is more your thing, I have a feeling you won't like them.
I'd actually be fine with this.
All you need is to add Rouge
Okay, I'll add battits.
Big The Cat is the comic relief btw, he just has to be there. In Sonic Adventure, he should've been the guy who randomly appeared in cutscenes looking for FWOGGY
Chaos as a supporting character?
Big can go fuck itself, Shadow and Blaze just don't fit the Sonic franchise, at least if you are thinking of the classics. You have to completely rewrite Shadow to make him fit
I would add Rouge just to have some Knuckles/Rouge comic relief
I was fine with his appearances in SA2, at least. I don't care if he's a background gag. I just didn't care for the fishing controls.
>Big can go fuck itself,
>he doesn't want Bigs big fishing adventure 3
Also Chaos is fucking cool
What's wrong with Blaze? She's not an obnoxious character by any means. I don't think they did a very good job as establishing her as some kind of alternate dimension inhabitant though. There's virtually no reason she needs to be.
>Amy above Shadow
No. If anything they're contemporary.
Amy is usually above Shadow though, in terms of character importance
Is just that she has no character besides being a moody princess. If they developed her a bit more then i would be fine with it
Just having a whole character for the sole purpose of comic relief is a bad thing user. We get it, he is stupid, that would get really tiresome quickly
I just don't want anything post 3&K, if they had the need to add more characters (Wish they didn't try to get new characters for a while) i would look at the comics instead
>Where is sonic?
>Oh shit I got kidnapped/went looking for sonic
>Oh look I found sonic/got rescued by sonic
>Credits
Literally no. The one time she did something that wasn't just being a support-support-support character was in Sonic Adventure 1, and even then all she did was fill in gaps left between sonic and E102's stories.
They had the intelligence to take her out of a playable role in 2.
I actually like brawlers and other action games. TMNT turtles in time, final fight, king of dragons, golden axe, double dragon, etc. I used to play a lot of these with a friend on the snes and arcades. Then the later stylish ones like Bayonetta and DMC. I'm not that great at them but still have fun.
Its just expectations of Sonic. Apotos day is one of the greatest things I've ever played and I can only imagine what the rest of the day levels are like. The night stages, definitely not as good. But I like brawlers, I like 3D platformers since they make me nostalgic and are rare now, I love the gorgeous lighting and settings of Unleashed...logically, when all the pieces are together, I should enjoy them. Its just the expectations of it going in and based off the demo you know?
But that's why I'm going to go in with a more open mind this time. With speedy stages, brawling stages, and those beautiful CGI cutscenes and world locations, I refuse to believe that there's a bad game buried underneath it all. I found my 360 copy of it. I'm installing it and will start it fresh tomorrow after work. I will watch whatever level was after Apotos to get a taste of it, but I don't want to spoil the games surprises.
I should thank this thread for digging up lost memories, so thanks you big faggot
>Sup Forums suddenly hates classic sonic
At the very least have Fang and Chaos/The Chao for Sonic Adventure, the former is based and the latter are very important
Giygas is better than Chaos
I was talking in terms of character relevance
Amy is usually there more often than Shadow these days
But no one said that
Nice miss by the way, i don't know user, i've grown to hate SA1 more and more, maybe that's why i don't want to see any elements from that game.
If you want to reintroduce Chaos and change the story from "just a mutated chao" i would agree
Giygas is pure creepypasta bait. There's nothing to him but "I'M SPOOKY." No plot, no explanation, just creepy for creepy's sake. You can recite about the creator being traumatized by a rape movie all you want, but that boils down to trivia and doesn't make it a good feature of the game.
I'm willing to bet because they had no idea what made Shadow Popular in SA2 and fucked it up in both Shadow the Game, and Sonic 06, and are afraid to use him seriously and canonically anymore while still retaining an E rating.
They're more willing to use Amy because she's established, a romance character, and a blushy girl.
fun
Did you not play Mother 1?
