Easy but can get hectic at point. The difficulty comes when you are heavily outnumbered.

The combat itself is very rock-paper-scissors style. Pikemen beats cavalry, heavy infantry beats pikemen, cavalry beats heavy infantry. Add in archers and siege, and now magical units and you got total war.
