Also if not, does 8 hold up well?
Only played 8, it was alright except for being kinda unbalanced difficulty wise and needing a third party utility to speed up combat.
bump for you OP because dungeon crawlers are underappreciated.
8 is the only one that "age" well and still fun. Just remember that conditions are a god send in the later levels and don't get all the orbs right away if you don't want to deal with the bitch in the castle.
6 is amazing and the best intro to the series, but the SNES port is the best version. Get a translation patch and an emulator and go nuts.
7 and 8 are the best/deepest/most replayable overall in the series.
Thanks I downloaded 8 and I'll probably start with 6 on my next day off. My only experience with theae games is a flip phone RPG
Also is grimrock worth checking out? The realtime gameplay seems hectic.
It holds up well if you want to play it. Go play it.
They take A LOT of effort to really get the most possible out of them, but they're deep and rewarding if you're willing to put the time in. They're also HARD. Like legitimately one of the only RPG series that is actually challenging. Though the later games are probably not as frustrating as 1-3 or especially 4.
Is Wizardry 8 level scaling Oblivion tier? How much does it affect enemjes?
>they're deep
Keep in mind that I mean relative to dungeon crawlers.
Does the game support custom portraits? If I wanted to make a Slayers party would it let me do that?
7 and 8 are good. I have a hard time playing hte earlier ones in the same way I have a hard time with M&M 1 and 2.
Wiz 7 & 8 are great.
What's the best third party auto map program to use with these games?
Graph paper and pencil.
I hear grid carographer is good
Thank you, that's the one I've read about a long while ago, but forgot the name of.
Wiz IV is the best :^)
Way too easy, man.
Stop it, the genre is already niche as it is.
Good dungeon exploration/puzzles, shit combat.
...
The mine levels are cancer even with ready made maps, 7 is a much better game in every way
I wish there was Wizardry game like 7 but with the character system of 8
>I wish there was Wizardry game like 7 but with the character system of 8
Elaborate - do you mean the system where you're supposedly competing with groups of other adventurers for Plot Items? Because that's really the only thing I can think of left if you say that you want to port 8's character system over
ur rite
these scrubs will never really KNOW wizardry because they can't even start it
I want a game that plays as smooth as a tile based Wizardry and without the godawful slow combat of 8
it's better than the earlier ones imo but kind of slow going as well
8 is fine to play first it's also great that you can figure it all out without needing to read the manual
grimrock is good but some people don't like the combat it's basically a modern version of dungeon master/ eye of the beholder
not everything scales but random encounters can be fucking brutal and even unwinnable in some cases
What are the best versions of each Wizardry games starting from 6? Is PC the definitive one?
there are a bunch of jap wizardry clones elminage is ok snes version looks nicer and has a map i think need a fan translation to play though since it was jap only
also keep in mind you can transfer your party to the next game once you finish if you play pc versions 6 through to 8 of course you always start at level 1 but the opening is different and you keep some items which can be used in the later games youtube.com

It's the best dungeon crawler ever made. The UI is kinda clunky though.
I wish that guy would update more frequently. His history of Dungeons and Dragons video games was amazing.
