On modern Sup Forums you have to be at least 25 to not be underage apparently. 18 doesn't cut it anymore

To be fair almost every 18 year old on the planet is a self important chucklefuck anyway.
Landon Hughes
I feel like I'm seeing this more with mario, sonic, and pokemon. I know exactly who you're talking about. I see the mario sunshine guys, the pokemon diamond guys, the sonic unleashed guys in their related threads. These people are all 18-24 or so now.
23 and these games are my favorite from their respective series
I can't imagine being 30+ years old and trying to feel superior over which decade you grew up/video games you played in that era. Pretty stupid fucking argument
Cooper Morales
>be any age above 18 >Sup Forums still calls you underage
Matthew Cruz
Those aren't the 30+ers that are saying shit like that. It's the 20 year olds who think they're better than the 18 year olds.

It's because we're on Sup Forums.

The fact the GC is so praised around here is scary. Same about the OG Xbox. It's obvious as fuck right now the average poster has huge nostalgia towards gen 6 consoles. Every other gen is shitted on by the same kind of people. Hell, I saw posters unironically arguing gen 6 was better than gen 4. Which of course is a gen where these kind of people weren't even born yet.
The GC is an overrated piece of trash. There is a reason it failed so hard back then, a reason nostalgiafags ignore on purpose.
Anthony Martin
I was a piece of shit at 18
Julian Scott
Thats pretty sad then if true. I feel like most people just jump onto whatever the popular opinion is and form their thoughts based on that so they don't stick out so much or have to get into arguments. Unfortunately Sup Forums has now adopted a very reddit line of thinking-downvoting. Posting pics of the le epic bait fish or (you) is for all intents and purposes, basically just a downvote/negative karma point seen in other forums
Ultimately I'm beginning to think this place is truly only for shitposting, rather than an underground place to discuss shit that isn't popular among normalfags. This basically
Lucas Russell
I honestly consider 18 to still be underage, or at least not someone with a valid opinion.

Aaron Rodriguez
>There is a reason it failed so hard back then Yeah, a combination of poor third party support, no DVD support, and a widespread perception of Nintendo as """kiddy""" (which isn't wrong to be fair).
The GameCube gets a lot of praise where it isn't due, but it's not a bad console by any means. I'd never go saying the GC/PS2/DC era was better than the SNES or Genesis, but it's not hard to see why they're held in high regard.

Being on Sup Forums is the rawest experience of free speech: Most people are idiots and spew retarded shit that isn't funny, isn't insightful, and really just exists to bait other anons.

Speaking from anecdotal experience, I'm 25 and the "old guard" of Sup Forums users so to speak are literally no better than the 18 year olds. If anything, a good percentage are actually more retarded and less reasonable in many situations but they feel like they can get away with it because of their age.
Retards will always be retards, it doesn't matter how many years you put on them
Nathan Ward
Im pretty new, only been here since 2009. But has it always been this bad? I know people harped on 2011 and 2012 for being shit but I really dont remember a lot from those.
Its funny though, even something as treasured as free speech needs to be checked, otherwise you have thousands of retards running about...and we're just more of them to someone smarter than us. I like hype threads the most since its pretty unfiltered and most of the time everyone can rally together on one central idea. Actual discussion and fan threads are shaky though. Mario, you cant ever badmouth 64 or 3DW unless you want half the thread to jump on your shit. Cant say any gen but 2, 3, 5 are good for pokemon. Cant think classic sonic sucks and find 3D modern Sonic more fun in sonic threads. Final fantasy, can't say the series was way better when it left the generic medieval shit without the nostalgia autists jumping on your case. Theres more examples but I think you get the idea. That its all centered around fellating the popular notion while equally hating on whats unpopular.

Thats honestly why I think it sucks, that was a terribly disappointing game, both single player and coop. it was 3D HD land with a few ideas thrown in and more expansive levels and further dumbing down of marios agility and acrobatics, doesn't deserve more than a 5/10 and that's being fair
Elijah Gomez

>Cant think classic sonic sucks and find 3D modern Sonic more fun in sonic threads In defense of us classic Sonic lovers, we've got no problem with people disliking classic Sonic, in fact I'm always open to real debate about ways that so-called 'classic' games in franchises can be improved. It's just that the reasons presented often make no sense - reasons like "you don't even go that fast because you always get stopped by obstacles", which just show an absolute misunderstanding of the way the game was designed
Brody Ross
I could not fucking disagree more. 3D world may just be my favorite Mario to date and I really didn't care for 3D Land. The game just flows so smoothly and the amazing soundtrack doesn't hurt. There are little touches fucking everywhere, like the return of the infinite 1-up trick from Super Mario Bros, the characters select of SMB2, platform design of SMB3, several pieces of music being remasters of older tracks, and the best level of the game: The mario kart track.
On top of that, it's arguably the biggest 3D mario yet, it has the most individual levels out of the whole series if I'm not mistaken.
I really don't get the comparison to 3D land because aside from title, I don't see the similarity.
Ayden Fisher
I'm one of the rare people here who will agree that it's a really good game.
But 3D World is almost literally built on the 3D Land engine. If you've played 3D Land, you can almost feel the moments where the perspective normally asks you to turn up the 3D Slider. It's a really good game, but it isn't very different from its immediate prequel.
Levi Martinez
And people born after will say the exact same. And sooner than you think, youll see people literally putting halo, uncharted, and call of duty as the gems of their childhood. Its all relative m8
Well I dont want to get into specifics about a single series since this is a general thread. I personally dont think the classic games suck, but I have seen posts more lately on how they do. And I have seen a huge influx of unleashed fans, refer to the OP for this. Its fucking 8 years old now. To think time was put in a vacuum and people who played it when they were 10-14 and havent grown up since is retarded. However, I do find the classic games extremely overrated. While I dont necessarily agree with the complaints against them, I can totally understand them if that makes sense.
I like little touches in games but those little touches arent enough to carry an entire game. Its a solid 3D platformer but coming off the heels of 64-Sunshine-Galaxy which established and defined expectations on what 3D Mario has come to be, it was extremely disappointing. All the similarities are there from 3D land, from architectural designs (generic colored shapes floating and designs straight from smb3 and world), the same camera, same movement, same course/progression of levels. Its the same game with expanded ideas and in HD. I actually think 3D land was better because it was made for the limits of the 3DS. The wii u and the first HD mario game, doesn't deserve to be 3D HD land. It deserved to be way more in just pure setting alone. What they accomplished with 64, sunshine, and galaxy blew minds away. 3D world doesnt do that. Its a very safe adventure in a plastic looking world with tons of reused ideas with a few new ones thrown in. I hate it
James Evans
>tfw born in 1993 >but had a poorfag family so we had Genesis and SNES long after they were irrelevant >got to experience SMW and S3K among others at childhood >Got bought Pokemon Red, Yellow, and Gold on their respective release dates Feels good man

2000-2010 was such a terrible decade for most people that they subconsciously erase it from existence.
Carson Ramirez
It's a love-letter to the entire mario franchise and is basically a mashup of every single game in the series.
I really hate when people compare 64, sunshine, or Galaxy to it because it's not exactly like those games play similarly to each other aside from jumping.
Benjamin Ramirez
Thats the best way to describe it. It feels more like the mario series sonic generations. An anniversary game going down memory lane but doesnt do anything new. To me it was like drinking cheap beer. Didnt get a buzz at all. It wasnt a bad game, it was just so mechanically uninteresting and played it so safe it was hard to feel excited. But thats nintendo as a whole now. They dont push boundaries like they used to with the 64 and gamecube. Ever since their logo went gray they've been a mess. It got REALLY bad with the wii u.
Cooper White
It's really not relative, though. The people who weren't around to see gaming develop from 8-bit to HD have an objectively lessened ability to understand the medium than the people who grew up alongside it. This is legitimately a situation where newfriends who don't seek out the oldies will be incredibly ignorant about what "good" game design is because they're so deluded by the marketing and hype machine.
Christian Price
People on Sup Forums are stupid and hypocritical, what a shock.
Lincoln Myers
Cant argue that. But at the same time, it sounds like youre trying to pass the blame for...not happening to be born at a certain time? That is way beyond someones reach of capability. Standards for any type of media change as time goes on. Books, music, movies. What was once popular in one era doesnt always make it to the next. Its the same with video games. What the people born in 80s and thought sonic 3 and knuckles is a masterpiece and someone born in 1994 and thinks unleashed is a masterpiece. Totally different standards and expectations
Luke Thomas
I think your nostalgia is blinding you. If anything Nintendo has been more experimental with the Wii U than the Wii and most of the gamecube lineup. For one thing, we got our first new console IP in close-to a decade with Splatoon. On top of that, we got The Wonderful 101, a new pikmin, an exclusive bayonetta, cloud in goddamn smash, and a fucking Mario Kart with decent online.
The Wii U hasn't done well, but I think it's unfair to say Nintendo played it totally safe.
Carson Powell
same thing here, born in 1993, my dad had a NES and i played the shit out of it (we only had mario, ice cimbers and nothing more.
Played blue on gbc when it came out and every pokémon game after that.
Adam Ross
Nah. It's not their fault for being born that young, but the burden of having to look back is on them, and vidya is a miserable medium for most people to gain a comprehensive understanding of. Normies don't normally use emulators, but they can pretty readily go back and watch old movies, read Shakespeare, etc.
The standards are different, but you lose out on a huge amount of appreciation of games when you don't have the context of where they used to be. Just look at the amount of people who love the 3D Sonic games compared to the dwindling 2D fanbase to see how cancerous this can become over time.
Michael Ward
I dont let nostalgia influence any of my choices or words. I dont like splatoon, I'll just come out and say it. The beta was incredibly shallow, the character designs and music were atrocious, and the game was extremely repetitive. Shoot the wall with paint for 3 minute rounds x infinity. Its a bad formula and apparently it has no content. Not my type of thing. The only time I ever play shooters on console is with coworkers on PS4. Besides that I will always be playing any type of shooter on pc. I enjoyed W101 and bayonetta, but those weren't really nintendo. That was nintendos money at work, not their teams. Pikmin, again not really my thing. The only smash I ever enjoyed was melee and I can't argue technically why because I never took it seriously. Just something to pop in when friends were over, play a few rounds till everyone gets bored, and thats it. MK8 is gr8, one of the best if not the best in the series. I also enjoyed hyrule warriors, kirby, and donkey kong. But as a whole I have to say I'm extremely disappointed in the wii u and won't be buying the NX after getting scammed. The jump to 3D with the 64 and then perfecting it while introducing or reintroducing new series with the gamecube is why I enjoy them. The 3DS is also Nintendos weakest handheld yet.
Normalfags dont really read or would ever bother with shakespeare and other classical writers outside of high school. Old movies and music extends to the 70s and 80s to with shit like the godfather and ghostbusters. No black and white stuff or classical movies.
I dont see the 2D fanbase dwindling at all. Its stronger than ever and everyone still loves to openly hate on 3D Sonic. However, what I am seeing more of now is the people who grew up with adventure, heroes, unleashed. They're way more vocal and defensive and in bigger numbers now. They dont feel like they have to love what they really dont (2D genesis sonic) to fit in and instead argue on what they love from 3D sonic.
Matthew Gutierrez
>I dont like splatoon, Okay, that's fine.
> the character designs and music were atrocious you take that back
>I enjoyed W101 and bayonetta, but those weren't really nintendo. So? Are we gonna play semantics now? If Nintendo didn't 100% develop it, they don't get to have their name on it even if they funded the damn things?
How can you argue that Nintendo isn't trying anything new and then say "I don't like the new things they're trying"? Don't you see how hypocritical that is?
Like, sure, the Wii U isn't your cup of tea. But your viewpoint seems very flawed.
Ethan Martinez
>Born 1992 >Was playing games from Age 3 or 4 (probably bad parenting but oh well, kek) >Family was poor >Had an Amstrad PC (fucking ANCIENT) and a Sega Mega Drive in the house so I played a shit ton of games on them >A friend of mine had a SNES and a Sega Master System so we played those a lot too, we'd often compare the differences of Sega multi-plats like Sonic >Eventually my dad got a way better job, not poorfags anymore >Caught up with the generations, got a Playstation and a Game Boy Color >Been up to date ever since I feel like I cheated the system, since I started gaming at such an early age and my family were poorfags I got to experience way more generations during childhood than the average gamer my age would have done

>Normies don't normally use emulators, but they can pretty readily go back and watch old movies, read Shakespeare, etc. Most normalfags I know refuse to watch any movie that hasn't been released in the last 10 years or so and don't read anything but GoT, and these are all college students
Robert Rodriguez
Being a film buff, the state of people refusing to watch old movies isn't surprising. It bums me out, sure, but whatever. I don't go searching for old bands that might be amazing or know how to play an instrument, but that doesn't make me an idiot when it comes to music.
Jacob Hill
No its fine, but one of those funded games is a sequel and the other is filled with niggling problems. I always had camera issues in w101 for some reason and the abundance of shooting stages/gamepad gimmicks dragged what couldve been an 8.5 to a 7. I still like the game but I cant ignore its flaws or pretend its a masterpiece when it simply isnt. But ultimately I still like it enough to chuck it in the already limited good games for wii u pile.
I prefer things simply being good over something new. Something new being good is fantastic, but something isnt good just because its new either. This is what the n64 and GC provided. Never cared for zelda but loved OOT and WW. Same with smash. Mario was expanded upon. Nintendo let retro and sega work on metroid and fzero and the result were fantastic entries in smaller franchises. Nintendo and rare were buttbuddies and nintendos money funded a bunch of rare classics. Bizarre but fun spinoffs like DK jungle beat or fucking Mario DDR that had their own game gimmicks rather than tainting the entire console with gimmicks. Solid, good old fun and chaotic MK entries. The games felt like they were more for all ages rather than exclusively kids, like the wii u games feel like. Really im not trying to sound like im stuck in nostalgia, but I can just pick up any random n64 or GC game and have loads more fun with its design and content over anything on the wii u.
Juan Morgan
My argument isn't really that normalfags go back to read Shakespeare, but that they ought to if they care about literature. Same with movies: you need to go before the 70s if you care about the art form beyond a cursory hobby.
I don't observe many people pretending to like the 2D Sonics, either. The fact that you mentioned that there's a big contingent of vocal 3D Sonic defenders undermines your whole point. Yeah, there's hipster cred involved, but I still don't see a 2D defense force on Sup Forums. Though, to be fair, I do agree that they're very different types of game at this point, and that it's alright for a casual fan to only like the series from Adventure on. My point is that it's less rich, less meaningfu, and ultimately less enjoyable to not have the full view of the evolution of a game series.
Robert Perez
I think you're perception of the past is making you nostalgic. Just read your posts and how you glorify past entries and dismiss new things so easily.
That said, it's your opinion. I'm not here to change it. Headed to bed user.
If you haven't, try Mario Maker. It's a game that can really only work on the Wii U and it's p cool.
John King
Yeah. I alluded to this in my last post to the Sonic user, but there's probably an important distinction that we need to make between normalfags/casuals/whatever and gamers/historians/critics/people who really and truly enjoy video games.
But no gamers are dead sure. I think the college thing has something to do with larger trends in media consumption, though. If it's not recognizable you're not gonna get likes when you talk about it on social media, so a lot of people dilute their interests pretty highly so they can continue gaining exposure and status for being cool, with "cool" in this case actually meaning something closer to "generally tolerable", like a really safe network sitcom.
I feel your feel, user. That's the difference between people who care about an art form and people who feign interest to seem, well, interesting. Date an artist too or you'll lose your mind.
Liam Mitchell

If you're under 21 you may as well be underaged as far as I'm concerned.
Noah Morales
Of course you wouldnt because no one likes to go against the grain unless its a hipster. I bet half the people outside of this place who talk about sonic anything, would just instantly say sonic 2 or sonic 3 and knuckles is the best. And they mightve played it once or twice. Or maybe played it and not even beat it. Or were really bad and thought the game sucked ass. But thats what youre forgetting about normalfags. They always feel the need to fit in to groups, they hate feeling excluded and alone on an opinion. Games like COD and movies like avengers thrive with this. Anyone who considers themselves a real sonic ought to at least play through all the main games and notable spin offs. And they will if theyre a fan because they want MORE of what theyre playing. I generally prefer the 3D sonic games outside of the obvious egregious offenders like 06 because I just prefer 3D gaming in general. Its what I grew up with first and foremost. I appreciate what the originals did and their engine is insanely complicated for such weak consoles, but I dont think theyre really all that fun to replay despite knowing them with above average knowledge of movement, special stage locations, best paths etc. And I think sonic 1 is one of the worst games in the series but again, I appreciate its place in history and how it got the ball rolling. But overall? I think the series has had its ups and downs, some things are praised way to much, while others are trashed way to much and at the end of it, I'm a fan of almost all types of sonic. I don't love the originals nor think the 3D games are perfect.
I don't dismiss new things at all. I'm a sonic fan m8, where every main entry has something new attached. I just don't enjoy the new series/direction of recent nintendo series. If I did I would be all over them. Anyway, good night bro. I havent gotten around to MM but I definitely need to get that one too. Same with yoshi.

My personal favorite is Sonic Adventure, followed by 2 for that sweet Chao action. But I know enough about the series and the games in general to be able to look at them and say that they're miserable, hilariously busted games with some promising bits.
But there's value in avoiding the normie trap and just enjoying what you enjoy without sharing it with people. Do you.
As far as I'm concerned the series ended at 3, with a chill jazzy side story in ODST. Mention LAN and you'll attract the oldfags--kids these days don't know what cords are. This kills the newfags.

Honestly haven't played any SNES or NES games until I actively searched for them on emulation sites. There's a weird sense of nostalgia I get from 8 years ago when brown shooters and Halo 3 were the go to multiplayer action games.
