What the shit was sony thinking?
All hail to the giant Select button
What the shit was sony thinking?
All hail to the giant Select button
what the fuck are these even called again?
That's a giant enemy grab
Bring back black and white button
don't forget LED flashlight too
>What the shit was sony thinking?
They were thinking that PC users could use a extra functions on their controllers. The touch pad can be macro'd to keyboard functions so that PC players can have easy access to quicksave ect. It's a great addition. Just because developers aren't coming up with good uses for it doesn't mean that it's bad. If nothing else it can be used for quick short cuts in menu heavy RPGs, with no loss in functionality on the controller.
It's a perfect touchpad for my PC when I'm in my couch.
It's fucking great for PC, but I had to remap the left click to a R button, since everytime you push the touchpad the cursor moves up
and don't move them to a shitty position because manlets can't handle a controller
big black button and tiny white button
Some games map different shortcuts to different parts of the tocuhpad. For example in witcher 3 if you click top left corner it brings the map directly without you having to pass through the menu.
It's also a nice trackpad when on PC and playing from the couch.
Start and Select, the shoulder buttons are R1, R2, L1 and L2 also. Fuck this "Bumpers" and "Triggers" nonsense.
View Button and Menu Button
Hello Xbox Live™'s Larry Hyrb aka Major Nelson
Oh shit Sup Forums
Where does it go?
Done.
>qwerty
I'll refer to buttons however they're called on the controller.
So it's RB, RT, LB, LT on Xbox.
But ANYONE who says "right trigger" for a PlayStation controller
Or God forbid, something like Gamecube or Dreamcast
I'm gonna blow a fucking gasket
They aren't even triggers
Also, trigger-style buttons are literally the worst invention since the N64's analog stick.
letter X rather than a cross shape with 4 equal angles. It goes in the left.
...
>ragging on N64 analog
>wanting to be stuck in the d-pad dark ages
3D games with only c-buttons would be extremely painful
>ragging on N64 analog
Mario Party was a good time
That game really left its mark
I really want a fps game to test maping the "aim down sights" to the tuch pad. Just to see how it compairs to keybord/mouse settings.
X is down
Blue is on the left
Try fps aiming on a laptop with just your thumb on the touchpad.
Alternatively, get something like InputMapper and try it with your own PC+DS4.
I'm pretty sure that Sony just bloated the features on the controller so that it would be prohibitively expensive for third-party manufacturers to make cheap alternatives, giving Sony a bigger slice of the hardware sales. I can't imagine that a single person on the dev team thought that adding a tiny touch pad would add a damn thing to gameplay.
But isn't dualshock 3 wasn't that much manufactured by 3rd parties? that mostly was a problem with dualshock 1 and 2
fucking this, I can change the volume or switch to HDMI audio, start my steam games and change settings easily now
>What the shit was sony thinking?
that its songygger cucks weren't... and they were right
Recent applications and menu.
>They aren't even triggers
what
Sonyggers are so cucked that Sony implemented a feature intended for PC users in their controller.
Depending on the game it can be used as 3 extra menu buttons (left, middle, right).
Not that I like it, too many fucking times I've accidentally tapped the controller when moving causing something to happen.
Which one should I buy for PC?
Which one will last me longer? I have delicate touch.
>Which one should I buy for PC?
Xbone is a safe bet. You'll have to fuck around with DS4 and in the end it will be used as an emulated Xbone pad. Consider other pads as well, PC isn't limited to 1 vendor. In the end it's all about comfort.
>Which one will last me longer?
Avoid DS4 like a plague.
>shit battery
>can't use DS3 on PS4
>vita remote play often drops connection for absolutely no reason
fuck you sony
Or you could just use a wireless mouse.
The PS4 controller has triggers.
X is up, cross is down.
Not Sony's fault that devs are too lazy to take advantage of the touch pad.
FUCK THAT TOUCHPAD
SHIT IS ALWAYS ON AUTOMATICALLY AND DRAINS YOUR BATTERY
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
almost want to get a Xbone controller cause of this
Or maybe they don't want to cram some worthless gimmick into their game.
Not even sony studios take advantage of it as far as I know, only killzone used it for that OWL or however that name was.
it makes the ds4 a goat pc controller
I can sit on my sofa, have the home button bound to Alt+tab out of the game, then use the touchpad to control the mouse and change music, quickly check messages etc.
Why buy another device when you have one that works and does more ?
>Launch game
>Play game
>Close game
>Navigate on the PC
>Which one will last me longer?
>Avoid DS4 like a plague.
What is this meme? I've been using my ds4 for both pc and console use since my 360 pad crapped out and it shows no sign of wear. Are people still talking about the soft rubber on the sticks of the first DS4 batch? Or is it some other new meme I'm not privy to?
>recommending the xbone pad to anybody
even the 360 pad is better.
I had an xbone pad and I ended up giving it to my brother after a couple of months. All I could hear while playing was *Clack* *Clack* *Clack* of the sticks on the controller housing.
Those bumpers are atrocious too.
>My DS4 broke when I threw it against the wall
>Muh shit quality
>lightly brush your thumb against the touchpad while playing and it enables mouse controls and moves the camera.
No thanks, I'll stick with my $12 wireless mouse to navigate on the pc.
If they replaced the touchpad with another set of buttons above the left and right analog sticks then I'd be happy. I found that thumb movement to be pretty natural when I was playing Bloodborne and using the corners of the touchpad for whatever menus they brought up.
>What the shit was sony thinking?
...it's a much faster way of typing than using the fucking d-pad?
What were you thinking when you made this thread?
Except it doesn't :^)
Touchpad as a mouse is disabled in games.
You're supposed to press it without lifting your finger, dumbass.
Sorry user, I didn't realise you had some debilitating bone disorder or lack of fine motor functions.
A normal person's fingers don't touch the touchpad while using the other buttons on the controller
X is down all day every day. Despite the fact I was an x-box controller user for the last few years, X is always down for me since PS1.
>he isn't a dpad typemaster god
Nah, brah, the giant touch screen is a pretty obscure addition with a laughably small number of notable uses, and I was a PS3 nigger.
List ten times the touchpad was a good thing and not just an overgrown select button.
list ten times where it wasn't
>Touchpad as a mouse is disabled in games.
Is that a new feature? Haven't updated DS4 windows in a while.
>A normal person's fingers don't touch the touchpad while using the other buttons on the controller
Except for when you are pressing in the touchpad and using it as a select button.
10 Vita games.
It's used as a secondary d-pad in a handful of games, much faster than bringing up an on-screen selector wheel or similar thing.
It works great to control the mouse when using it with pc or ps4's web browser
yeah it's underused but its not useless
I played the Witcher with DS4Windows last year and there was no problem at all.
I like your acceptable answer.
Have only used it on pc and it´s godlike there for navigating menus in games or simply starting up games or even browsing guides in the steam overlay.
What is it used for on PS4, how do games implement it?
Not many games use it actually, because devs can't into optimization.
if you're playing on pc then the share button is select, not the touchpad. You can also configure in driver to make the touchpad only work when you're alt+tabbed out of games if you really are incapable of not mashing it.
why are you trying to argue when you clearly have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.
>vita games use touchscreen
oh yeah, such glorious titles as lumines and shit wipeout, modracers who can't live on without touch only main menu.
DS4 is the best controller I've used for PC. It's sturdy and has good tactile feedback. Download ds4windows.
usually just a secondary d-pad or touching different parts of it are shortcuts for menus or items.
nothing 'innovative'
>You can also configure in driver to make the touchpad only work when you're alt+tabbed out of games
It must be a newer feature because I don't see it. Still id rather just use a wireless mouse anyway. Touchpad in general are fucking cancer.
They wanted to go Nintendo but not full Nintendo.
Never go full Nintendo unless you're sure enough you can survive going full Nintendo.
Its loaded with features/functionality you will never use to peripheral replacement costs rise.
Duh.
Not that guy but Tearaway, Dragon's Crown and Gravity Rush make good use of the touchscreen.
well ok, enjoy keeping tray and mousemat next to you on the sofa
>Buttmad xbone normie detected
This is a good way of putting it.
I will thank you
don't have those ones, got DC for PS3, rest are not all that interested.
I guess we can count Moe Chronicles.
Still, I prefer touchscreen never existed.
why would an extra input/shortcut be a gimmick?
It's just something extra, you can ignore it for the most part. It was useful for menu navigation in Ys:MoC, soul sacrifice delta as well. Killzone uses it too I think, though I never played it.
>DS4 Touchpad has more uses on PC than the PS4
What the fug?
as long it's an option - sure.
but whenever it's mandatory - it's pure cancer.
RIP Select Button
you got me good. got genuinely confused for a second.
>so much sony butthurt in a row.
DS4 has terrible build quality, rubber on sticks is pure shit tier, even on later batches, it either cracks or smooths out, becomes slippery, plastic parts that hold triggers in place are fragile, etc
Kill yourself.
DS4 is the best since the touchpad can be used as a mouse.
