I just started this game on Hard difficulty, Classic mode (permadeath on), and holy shit it really is hard. The amount of time I had to soft reset because someone died in Chapter 3 is insane.

I chose Hard because I honestly thought it would be Normal mode by modern standards, and besides I already finished quite a few similar games (Disgaea 1, 3, X-com, Kamidori, Luminous Arc 1 etc.), so I don't consider myself a newcomer to the genre, but I have never played a Fire Emblem game before.

Is the game going to get easier or only harder? Should I restart in an easier difficulty, or should I keep going?

it gets easier. A lot easier. Like you don't have to think much easier so long as you even up your exp to your solid units. Just remember defense if your friend and this game is easy mode. Oh, and pairing people up breaks this game in half. Keep using it if you want this game to become brain dead.

At least you're not playing Conquest Hard Mode or any of the Super Famicon games.

Wait till Chapter 12-ish, the difficulty really spikes then. That's as far as I got when I played on Hard and Classic. Even when I played Hard and Casual, I still only got to around Chapter 18 before getting fed up of getting my arse kicked so often.

There's no shame in turning the difficulty down for your first playthrough. I would say keep playing Classic on Normal difficulty unless you really are getting fed up of units dying/having to soft reset.

phoenix mode in fates is where i draw the line though, if you play on that you're a pussy

It gets a lot easier. Hang in there.

Also, can I just express how hard Conquest is kicking my nuts? Just beat Chapter 10 after what I'm going to say was 6 attempts and I just had to reset on Chapter 11. This is by far the hardest FE I've played. Anyone saying the series is getting dumbed down is absolutely full of it.

Thanks anons, OP here. I'll keep trying on Hard and Classic for a while, and if it gets too tedious, I'll restart in a lower difficulty later.

I'm enjoying the game a lot though, will definitely move on to Fates once I am done.

Finished it on casual, which is like a tutorial for playing a hard/Permadeath. I learned to pair up often and play to their strengths. You almost have to. And go balls out. Don't be afraid to go through your top weapons and use the forge.

Remember to pirate or buy used.

Conquest isn't dumbed down a lot of people think its one of the best games in the series with chapter 10 being one of the best chapters its birthright and rev that are dumbed down

The skill armsthrift is your friend user use and abuse it

Fates sold like a gajillion copies, OP's contribution or lack thereof is not going to affect much.

I would've bought the game despite the changes if only there was dual audio.

Man, I can't see Gregor as anything other than a perverted old man. I refuse to pair him up with any of the girl units.

>gregor
>perverted old man

Nigga, did you ever even use him? He's one of the best characters in the game. He's one of the few that aren't really just built around one personality gimmick, since "funny accent" isn't much to build off of.

It's a good thing CFW is now widely available, and you can get the undubbed version right now if you wanted to.

Here comes the dillema though, should you buy the game and download the undubbed version, thereby supporting a localization method you do not agree with (forced dub), or don't buy it at all and just play the undub?

>I can't see Gregor as anything other than a perverted old man.

Nigga what

Gregor is based

His support lines are all great

I wouldn't say that revelations and birthright are dumbed down, especially not compared to awakening. I think that IntSys really nailed the core gameplay this time, so even though those campaigns are simpler, they still have a lot of play to them.

...

But the undubbed version is going to be different thanks to the changes Treehouse made. There will be a few weird moments, like Saizo Beruka support, or when your male kid doesn't get married. I was thinking of waiting for a definitive version actually, like a completed fan-translation.

Example? I can go look up the script on serenesforest.

Gregor/Cordelia is very good, as an example. Gregor/Tharja is very good too. Gregor/Panne from memory, but can't say for sure.

Also Gregor and Lon'qu have a great one.

It was hard to fit him in my team at the time I think. I don't recall using him.

Imagine him as a Chrom that doesn't maybe hit as hard but has better reclassing options. He's a mainstay in my team at all times, really. And I'm just a sucker with his accent, since it's not too overdone.

Dude if you're looking for a Hero, you should totally try a reclassed Severa with Galeforce. She kicks so much ass it's not funny.

Fuck I read Gregor/Cordelia and all I can think of it is a dirty old man buttering her up. I think I can't get rid of this idea in my head. Perhaps the platonic supports like Gregor/Lon'qu might be better.

Do you just have a dirty old man fetish, man. It's okay to admit it.

Are you me?

I finished all those tactical rpgs and more and started FE Awakening Hard/Classic as my first FE game ever too.

Try get DLC to grind or just grind Edward from the free wireless teams. Game will soon get too easy. Soon you'll wish to have picked lunatic.

Bonus: What I learnt in my 1st run is max lvl heroes before promoting and sometimes master classes aren't worth lvling until they get 2nd skill. Just reclass to something else.

I'm playing conquest lunatic and it's not that hard. Just plan a couple of turns ahead.

And remember, it's not a tactical rpg but a puzzle game. Every map has a specific way in which it was designed to be beaten.

>playing with permadeath
>reset when someone dies

That's not permadeath. You should soldier on a tread over the corpses of the dead

And here we go again. Try to keep it civil this time guys.

I never understood this. why play with permadeath on if you just reset anyways? especially in a game where you can grind units to replace the fallen

Well, it forces you to play differently. On casual mode you can basically fling your units at the enemy with near impunity, whereas classic forces you to be more careful and strategic eve of you do reset.

Not to mention that resetting is--though less of one than permanent loss--quite a punishment in itself.

>eve of
even if

My mistake

I play permadeath so everyone I spotpass will think I'm a cool.

Also what characters/skills/classes is Sup Forums running for spotpass?

For Awakening? Been a while since I played, but my Swordmaster Olivia has Galeforce and Lethality. Sorceress Tharja for dat magic too.

You need to learn how the game works. Weapon triangles and the range of enemies. Become good enough and even Lunatic should be easy.
