They couldn't compete with Western corporations in terms of budgets, especially marketing budgets.

Most of the "AA" developers died during the seventh console generation and the AAA ones are all making games for the modern western normie who wants cinematic experiences, not videogames. The rest are making extremely small budget Japan-centric games that are mostly waifushit.

I don't know if it can be fixed. The ball has simply shifted into Burgerland's court.

Microsoft paid off the reviewer market to oust Japanese game sales from western markets, and it worked, especially because MS refused to support Japanese devs on their own console. Americans decided dudebro Halo and Call oDooty are better than jrpgs and Nintendo, Japanese devs scrambled trying to mimic western 'popular' games, failed, and played into MS's hands.

- japanese teams are normally smaller and thus aren't able to shit out games as fast
- japanese market is moving towards mobile and pachninko and games are still seen as embarassing\escapism

2009/2010 -> The last remnants of the Traditional Era -> The Era Capcom went Crapcom (due to the success with catering to change) and other companies change their business model

2010/2011 -> Change complete. -> The start of the new era


People like myself tried fighting back, but we failed every attempt to get back the traditional games we love. These new players out numbered us and made companies like Capcom justify ignoring their real fanbase. Look at Fromsoft... they completely left the mecha series in the dust and they were the gods of mecha. I could go on using many different companies.


There is only ONE company that survived the era of change - Platinum Games. But look at them now. They are no longer the making traditional games.

Why do you think so many people are moving to PC? Sadly the new era is following us there too.

Video games are no different than they were in 2006. There's just more online (which is good because I want to play with my buds) and dlc (which you just have to deal with and not buy if you want to make a stand)
