JRPG bros, where you at?
When did you realize that JRPGs are the only worthwhile genre?
JRPG bros, where you at?

I don't really have time for your bait
So you play JRPGs to play an RPG without the RP then? Because that is what this image leads me to believe.
They're an ok genre to chill out to, wouldn't want to play loads per year though
also really not enjoying ff7, it seems overrated and I have to play the PAL version so its slow as fucc
I played FF7 for the first time this year and fell in love with it. Totally deserves the praise. Shame about all the cringey FF7 shit that came afterwards.
>it seems overrated
A game released years ago that built hype off of impressive CG for the time and nostalgia is overrate? You don't say!
Never go into games with the ratings people have for them. Just go into them on your own with no expectations. You'll never be disappointed that way.
>State of the art visuals
Funniest shit I've read all week.
Go back to fapping to neptunia weeb.
Honestly, the only JRPGs I liked so far were TRPGs and SMT series. What else should I play?
FFX because its turn based like SMT. No ATB.
Try 7th Dragon 2020
Its a challenging dungeon crawler by SEGA with fantastic music.
youtube.com
It has a large emphasis on buffs and debuffs so you should feel right at home if you like SMT.
but I believe that other jrpgs like chrono trigger, earthbound, TWEWY were all super hyped and ended up being enjoyable
I tried it, didn't like it.
Looks cool, will try.
might just be preferences, too
i'm replaying it recently for the first time since i was 13 and yeah it's okay but most of the hype is nostalgia. jrpgs were super popular until ff7. ct and eb while well liked weren't really as popular comparatively whereas almost everyone with a ps1 played ff7 when it came out, even non-rpg people just for how cool the hype for it was. as a result, an okay game is now regarded as legendary due to the status around it.
i'm just saying, saying ff7 is overrated is like saying oot is overrated or something. it's not really that surprising given how popular and wide spread the game was.
to be frank, i'm also sick of the japanese animeish storylines full of waifu and j-pop crap
i'd take the gameplay and graphics from JRPGs and the more believable storylines and characters from WRPGs
Try the SaGa series.
>jrpgs were super popular
whoops meant weren't
Are there any JRPGs with good stories? The only ones I've played that had a modicum of competent storytelling are FF7 (which is tonally inconsistent) and FFT (which kind of goes to shit in the last third).
Most of these are JRPGs. Try them. I'm serious.
>FFX
>Pokemon
Opinion discarded.
I'm joking. I heard good things about Nier and Mother 3, and I liked .hack//SIGN. I'll check out the rest. Thanks user.
The Suikoden franchise.
>undertale
>mother 3
>pokemon
>jrpg
weaboos this desperate.
Xenogears
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
Specifically,
Suikoden 2 > 5 > 3 > 1 > 4
I haven't played a weebshit game in years. What's good these days?
Square usually goes to shit toward the end of their games.
>JRPG characters are more varied than WRPG
Wut?
>TACTICAL AND INVOLVING
>TURN BASED GRINDSHIT
ahahahahahahahaha
DDS is fun as fuck and it has some neat themes, but the story is an absolute clusterfuck.
A lot of people seem to agree on the Legend of Heroes games.
PS4?
Nah. PSP, Vita, PS3, and PC
I imagine the next game is likely going to be PS4 though.
Damn, never did get a PS3.
Then again, after delving into it's bizarre history on wiki, it seems this franchise has made some odd choices that leaves you guessing. They made a sequel to one game, like, 20 years after the first, and put it on the fucking N-Gage. That title has another new game 10 years after that apparently reboots the fantasy game into a modern day Tokyo setting, that is their most recent game.
I've been playing Trails in the Sky on PC. Through both GoG and Steam. I may pick up Trails of Cold Steal on my PS3 at some point though.
Please do not compare Pokemon and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
what is the game next to mass effect on the future part of WRPGs? it looks kind of interesting
There isn't enough JRPGs where you can create your own characters. I want the character creation and customization of a WRPG and the waifus of a JRPG dammit.
this triggers the neo/v/
...
B-but I like both genres, user-kun! What am I gonna do?

This is the sad truth. Everything Japanese from here on out seems like it's going to be more bouncing boobies, panties, blushing and thinly disguised pedophelia, and less actual substance.
I like a lot of genres aside from JPRGs, but I've been trapped in the JRPG genre for a year and a half now. Every time I try to get out and play a non-JRPG, I find a new series I'm interested in and get pulled right back in.
>he thinks that Japanese character writing isn't extremely two dimensional and generic
The reason why Western characters are so similar is because it is white men who go to war. Soldiers aren't a merry band of unique snowflakes, they're hard men who have similar experiences. That's why soldiers from around the world can identify with one another.
Also, Miyazaki said something along the lines of modern anime not really being true to the human character and being filled to the brim with bland characters that don't make sense. This is especially true for Japanese games, the characters are always feminine nice guys who make the losers that play weeb games feel better about being weak and pathetic.
