IV is objectively better. VC is basically a rip-off of Scarface. Not that is bad I enjoyed both of them a lot, but I personally prefer IV.

VC made enough substantial improvements that it's actually a fun game 90% of the time instead of 50% of the time

SA is still the best gta, but i put v over iv, simply because of the cars and the map, 4 was cramped and the cars were overglorified boats, I must admit five has shittier movement/grapling/climbing/jumping/cycling.

Back in the PS2 days, I was a dumb nintendrone who thought realistic games like GTA and CoD were dumb.
Then I bought GTAV back on the PS3 to give the series a try after I was out of that phase.
Now I'm marathoning the PS2 games on the PS4. Still midway through Vice City.

Someone explain to me how you can possibly put GTA4 above 5? How can you put a game with a shitty gray city with no environmental disparity and nothing to do in it above something like GTA5? The story? I don't get it.

You should really get them on PC (pirate, the steam versions are worse) and get some mods. The increased draw distance (from limit removers) alone is worth it.

multiple casinos and all kinds of games, SA had a lot of side jobs like taxi/fire/medic/cop and all the other weird shit, the kind of immersion shit I missed in gta5

VC is fun, but SA basically improved on it in just about every possible way. The main thing VC has going for it over SA is atmosphere and music, which comes down to opinion.

Honestly, I only played through San Andreas once. I tried to again and got bored of it.

Traffic in that game is absolute shit. It really is. You can't drive anywhere without your car getting beat up from constantly colliding with braindead AI and you more than likely have to abandon it as it catches on fire and blows up. Its funny at first because it kind of reflects how poor real californians drive, but it does get old after a while when my good tuned up cars get ruined from some asshole driving a tractor on the highway.

Gang wars is an interesting mechanic but its only in Los Santos and its really fucking annoying that there are the thinnest damn strips of land, literally just sidewalks, that are held as gang territory. It gets even more boring when the only way to actually fight gang wars is by headshotting every gangster with an assault rifle and not bringing any of your crew into the fight, as they die fast and are incredibly useless. Once you realize how dumb the AI is you can even go across houses and they are forced to run around the block to get you, where you can easily pick them off.

The dating mechanic in this game is awful. Awfully conceived and awfully executed. You have girls that are fucking miles away from the city that want to go dancing, then get mad when you can't get there in time because its so fucking far away, even by helicopter. The dialogue is shitty, the "lets go for a drive" is just a retarded mechanic, and in the end its almost completely pointless. Few in-game advantages.

The one thing I liked doing most of the time is climbing in a fighter jet and attacking the army base to draw other fighters in and bomb the crap out of everything with missiles. Eventually though I'd get bored of that too and drive around the empty desert away from most of the roads, where no traffic could reach. The music was cool though, easily better than Vice City on that note.

I also did like how you could actually buy things too.

SA did try to fit in a lot of different mechanics/side things and as a result some of them weren't that fleshed out, but as a whole I feel like the game was really great. The gang wars definitely could have used a bit more work. As for space I feel like the only area that was a bit underutilized was parts of Las Venturas.

V is utter shit though, so I could see someone thinking IV was better than III, but V stays in last place everytime
