Gearbox.
You haven't played it yet.
Overwatch.
Lot's of things
Everything.
Releasing against an extremely hyped and marketed FREE beta. Fucking dumb move by Gearbox.
A company that makes games exclusively for 14 year-olds thinking they could make a game from a genre that is 90% projection bait.
Terrible art.
I didn't get into the beta to even try it.
Tried to compete with a more polished game that everyone thought was identical otherwise.
bruh you already know
no updates in time. broken hero balance, bad map design with lots of exploits. hitboxes of some heroes are too large while some powerful heroes have small ones. hitscan and slow flying weaponry further ruining viability of certain heroes. PvE mode is bullshit and shouldn't have been in a fps-moba to begin with.
Overwatch stole all the attention.
people not liking good video games
seriously, my only problem with it is that it takes 30 minutes to find a match
I watched the extended trailer on steam, and I must say that the character design looks way more appealing to me than Overwatch. I know they are two different genres of games but if they lowered the price of Battleborn, I'd probably pick it up.
gearbox. i have 100 hours in the game so i actually know what i'm talking about when i say gearbox has handled the launch terribly. it took 3 weeks to fixing gamebreaking balance and map issues and STILL matchmaking is fucked, game is very unoptimized and the new hero is overpowered.
I bought this game at launch to tide me over until Overwatch. Purchasing this game fucked with my bank account and now I'm in debt because of this fucking thing. I'm gonna break down why this game is such a goddamn insulting piece of garbage:
(1/4) It's a fucking shitty moba hybrid thing that nobody asked for. LoL is about the furthest you can depart from Dota where it still kinda works as a game, as soon as you start stretching the mechanics too far like so many of these modern dotalikes do, the whole game falls apart and turns it into a shitshow. The mechanics have been stripped down to "here are some creeps that you can pretty much ignore, here's a couple of fucking turrets that you can snipe from a mile away, here's this stupid fucking item system so you can spend your gold on a couple of weak shitty items to give you a slight edge".
It borrows a lot of dota concepts but it completely fucks them into the ground, I'd argue they're even more fucked than HotS. In a "genre" where the mechanics and ruleset are the core of the experience, where every single aspect of the underlying system is crucial to the flow of the whole game, in the same way Quake's movement physics were crucial to its flow, you can't just rape those mechanics into the fucking ground and shove them into a (poorly fucking designed) FPS and expect it to just werk because the kids all love mobas now.
>here are some creeps that you can pretty much ignore
gonna stop you right there, you havent played the game.
>I'm dumb and it's the game's fault
(2/4) All this moba fluff wouldn't be a huge problem with the core FPS mechanics fucking worked at all. I'll give 'em that the general controls and movement feel more-or-less okay, things feel pretty tight on a mouse and keyboard, but when you mesh those mechanics into this fucking... mess, the shortcomings become even more frustrating.
The fucking, GOD DAMN, DICKSUCKING COLLISION in this fucking game, holy fucking shit, it is the absolute worst. Constantly getting stuck on geometry that shouldn't have been an issue has accounted for a lot of my deaths more than anything else. The tickrate and general networking is also insanely bad too, you think Overwatch's 20 thickrate is bad check this shit out. So while you aren't getting stuck on rocks and coming to a dead stop when you get within 20 feet of an ally, the shooting still feels loose and shitty, as tight as the controls actually are.
But shit, that doesn't really matter because the TTK is so fucking long that mechanical skill doesn't really matter anyway. I know that's a core principal of moba design, to give heros these huge health bars to stretch out encounters and force a lot of strategy into each situation, but for an FPS it's just fucking annoying. It's a game that somewhat rewards skillfull aiming and positioning, but then negates that by making everyone into a huge bullet sponge.
tldr
>tfw even the shitting on battleborn threads ate dying
How dead can one game be? The first montg isn't even over yet.
>CDN$ 94.99
Blizzard spent more on marketing
(3/4) And don't even get me fucking started on the particle effects, SWEET LORD what a shitfest. The particles, yes, are pretty looking, I like the cartoony vibe they have going on but the fucking clusterfuck of particles in your average teamfight is beyond manageable, it gets to a point where it significantly effects gameplay.
And then there's the map design, oh lord what absolute retard was assigned to make these things. Single lane tower pushing maps. SINGLE. LANE. TOWER. PUSHING. It is the dumbest fucking thing ever, the result of every match is almost always decided 10 minutes into a game, because once your first turret even takes a little chunk of damage you know you're fucked, because your shit is already pushed in and you have no other lanes to push to try and get an advantage, you just have to keep pushing that one clogged artery of a lane against a team that has no reason to split up or deviate from just pushing that one. fucking. lane.
Meltdown maps of course have two (!) lanes, but even those maps feel shitty and underdeveloped. It spreads out the chaos just a little bit but everything is so tightly packed together in both meltdown maps that your positioning doesn't really matter much. On top of that the whole mode is just a mess.
The UI
Character design.
Press X to not die.
wouldn't even matter in the end if gearbox hadn't dropped the ball. you can only blame marketing so much, the game is hemorrhaging players for a reason and unlike evolve it's not because the game itself is shit and not fun.
(4/4) And you know, I'm not even gonna delve into the shitty meme humor, the crappy voice acting and the stupid character designs. I won't even get into the weird character progression/unlock stuff, that sort of thing is to be expected from this kind of garbage.
What really gets me is that I keep trying to find enjoyment out of this game, like I'm really trying to justify the purchase and put more hours into it, but it's just bad on almost every level. I've had a few cool moments in the game, yes, but they were mildly cool moments in a big snakepit of shit.
And you know what, the memes are fucking annoying. Fuck you Gearbox, cut this shit out.
Okay I'm done with my rant fuck you all.
It's very disappointing how often Sup Forums falls for shills marketing their game.
It's very obvious when they do come here and their threads often hit the bump limit.
You guys are part of the reason most games are so casual and dumbed-down these days. Why put in the effort to make a good game if they have millions of people who will buy the game regardless of it's quality?
Did you mistake this for an overwatch thread?
I'm just going to only respond to this one and say that the only meme I've even encountered in this game was with Rath making an "Over 9000" reference. And that's justified by him being voiced by the same VA.
Other than that all of the humor was based around the characters personalities rather than references.
The most mind-boggling thing about Battleborn is its fucking atrocious art style. This is the ugliest game I've seen in a long time. It's a mess of colors that is legitimately hard to look at, and none of the heroes are even remotely cool or appealing. Borderlands wasn't really anything to write home about, but it wasn't this hideous. What the fuck happened?
Nobody but the retard above fell for this shit here.
No. This game has been shilled very often here.
Overwatch just has a far higher marketing budget so they have more frequent shill posts.
That doesn't mean that the battleborn shill posts are any less annoying or shameful
I hadn't even heard of this game until yesterday.
>casual
And if someone dies press X to pay respects
>blatant falseflags fishing for (You)s are shills
Okay lad
Well to be fair, there weren't a LOT of memes, definitely not as much as Borderlands 2, but that small handful that were in there just bothered the everloving shit out of me, like in spite of everything Gearbox still manages to be tacky.
To me the UI looks too much like borderlands, furthering the idea that they've become a one-trick pony and can only produce mediocre shooters with terrible writing. It's sad because there was something to the first borderlands, but they went and expanded on all the wrong things.
>it's a first person ASSFAGGOTS
>ASSFAGGOTS are objectively shit
>the artstyle and character design is horrendous.
You're insane if you think any post about this game has been anything other than false flagging tryhard posts that are obvious bait and the occasional person who actually likes the game getting upset at the shitposting.
Honestly compared to Borderlands 2 and the Presequel there hasn't been a single gag in Battleborn that made me roll my eyes.
I think it's just the kinds of jokes they're making, it's mostly all based on the character interactions and playing on each others personalities.
youtube.com
The "artists" at Gearbox probably wanted to exaggerate features making them goofy, not realizing that you can't just stretch random parts and call it a day. Borderlands still kept realistic proportions, and those outside of it were balanced. And the color from weapons, attacks, etc in Borderlands was a nice contrast with the mostly washed out terrain.
Battleborn is like using a random color swatch on every single texture.
stop responding, he hasn't played the game.
That's practically half the screen dedicated to just the gun and the hand, christ
you are correct
You're retarded if you think that the hundreds of copy pasted threads for the last several weeks are try hard bait.
I'm sure there's a random user posting battleborne threads with a slightly altered OP every hour of every day for the past several weeks. That sounds far more likely than a game company marketing their product in a place specifically for people who play games
Go back to gamefaqs, you faggot. He painted a more valid argument for the game's shittiness than you have for whatever stance you're trying to make.
After 10 hours with friends and solo, it's obvious that the game is a pile of shit, and it's a shame they refused me a refund.
I'll buy it when it's around 5 dollars or in a humble bundle decently priced with good shit.
>You're retarded if you think that the hundreds of copy pasted threads for the last several weeks are try hard bait.
They literally are, most people here just want to shit on the game that sold like shit under the Overwatch behemoth thinking that it's Tortanic 2.0.
Also as someone who actually enjoyed and definitely got my money's worth for BL2, I think the only thing really saving the game aesthetic from shit tier is that it at least all tied together into a base apocalyptic future theme, and even the different DLC areas/enemies were at least internally consistent within the DLC.
But I don't think they have the talent or know-how to successfully merge a ton of conflicting whacky characters together like this, unlike Blizzard which has way more experience in that regard at this point.
I mean fuck, even the logo looks like a genesis game at best and a p2w flash game from 2008 at worst.
For me, the same way Bethesda are lazy, coming up with interesting concepts and butchering them for the sake of not putting the effort to implement them, Gearbox is just incompetent.
Borderlands might have been a lucky strike by them but it worked. They created an interesting, visually and internally, game with its own personality. Battleborn doesn't.
Definitely agree with the Blizzard part. You can't just put random shit in the game and expect it to work. There has to be consistency.
Pitchford to be more precise.
hes a grade-A shitlord and everyone knows it.
What's the gmg voucher?
