TURN UP THE RADIOOO

Why is this game so good?

Writing and character interactions were fantastic which really helped to overlook the terrible gameplay.

>terrible gameplay
Thought the gameplay was fine and allowed both people who prefer going guns blazing and those who wanted a sneaky tech approach.
EXCEPT FOR THE BOSS IN OP PIC

>Execute option pops up in conversation

It had heart and soul. It had thought put into it.

Too bad they can't code for shit.

>Not just going stealth/kung fu/pistols

Did anyone actually use the SMGs? They seemed like easily the worst type of guns.

What gaem?

The time limit makes it even more thrilling.

Alpha Protocol

It's probably about time to replay this

>start playing this for the first time
>can't get the past the hacking part of the tutorial

just kill me

Alpha Protocol was completely mediocre in every way. It had great potential, but as always was poorly designed by Obsidian.

Could have been great if it had like 8 more months of development time.

Just completed my first non stealth/pistol play through

Fucking god like

I used them once for the achievement

It's buggy, it's glitchy, it's unbalanced, but god damn it's a fun ride.

>EXCEPT FOR THE BOSS IN OP PIC
>he didn't spike the coke
>he doesn't CQC
>he doesn't know what timing is

Literally got Brayko from max to dead in 30 seconds, kys.

>EXCEPT FOR THE BOSS IN OP PIC
If you use pistol you can kill him easy in under a minute

If you use anything else it's just find good cover and shoot until he cokes up then you play ring around the rosie with the stage and take pot shots unitl he goes back to guns.

Also if you have good standing with Steven Heck you can do what this user said

>She will never be romanceable
Hold me bros

Who is on the boat with you at the end if you murderize everyone?

Having played through AP twice, it's certainly flawed but I still enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. My biggest complaint is too few Sis interactions.

>make CQC, take no shit army guy
>meet SIE the first time
>she asks that i just let her slide
>NOPE
>fight ensues with her on a balcony, pit between us, and large box for me as cover
>can't punch her in the face and I only have SMG and shotgun
>fight took about 20 mins with me almost dying a lot.
>got her kneebrace as a trophy

Heck if you use him as your handler (as he can't be killed); otherwise nobody (I can't remember if Mike monologues to himself or not)
>That 'pretty as a picture' scene
Unf.

>spoiler
You're a man of good taste

I should've known. Heck is a crazy bastard.

The bitch doesn't talk and had zero personality. How much interaction did you honestly think you would have with her?

I got stuck fighting the Chinese guy because my game bugged him out and turned him into sonic the hedgehog. No matter how many times I reloaded, he would always be so fast that he had five fists up my ass before I could move two feet.

If team up with Leland there isn't even a boat

Not that guy but, there was a lack of G22 overall desu

I honestly can't tell if his sonic speed is a bug or not, what weapons were you using? Did you set traps? Did you not put any points into melee?

The game talks shit about Brayko's pad and 80s nostalgia but I couldn't get enough of it.

Hell yeah.
>his interactions in Taipei
''You look good for your age."
Best spy in the game, hands down.

>zero personality
>How much interaction did you honestly think you would have with her
Do you even know where you are?

>because my game bugged him out and turned him into sonic the hedgehog
>No matter how many times I reloaded, he would always be so fast that he had five fists up my ass before I could move two feet.
That isn't a bug, user

this

i felt like the conversations were well written and it felt very natural and organic

also i really liked the idea of having a tone of response like 'serious' or 'sarcastic'. it's much better than picking a line and then having your character say something completely different.

>Best spy in the game, hands down.
AP is one of my favorite games of all time, I think I'm the only motherfucker who comes to these threads who doesn't like Heck, I get why people like him but he's too silly for me.

>teaming up with someone who pairs /that/ tie with /that/ colour shirt
I know this is a game of choice, user, but that's going too far.
>there was a lack of G22 overall desu
Agreed. While keeping them in the background/out of focus might have fit their character, for the best and most interesting faction in the game it was a little disappointing.

>I get why people like him but he's too silly for me.
Eh, that's fair enough, I think he's intended to be such a divisive character - after all, there's even an achievement for alienating him.
Plus, all that misdirection

I'm not fond of Heck. Probably the worst handler in my opinion. I don't hate the dude, but he felt out of place.

>tfw 2 (You)s

>I know this is a game of choice, user, but that's going too far.
I wanted to get all the endings, including the one where you blow up Leland after telling him you'll team with him

It would have helped if a bunch of G22 had showed in support for the final missions instead of just Sis

>misdirection
What are you referring to user?

Someone who actually agrees with me, what a rare feeling.

>it would have helped if a bunch of G22 had showed
It's possible
They show up in a heli and get shot down
Also, Albatross is best

>Albatross is best
That's not SIE

I don't like SIE as a handler. But damn.

I agree with you, I think it's the best dialogue system I've yet seen for simulating the actual feel of conversations. Especially given the amount of detail and divergence in the game, so different responses early in a conversation can change later outcomes - the conversations where you meet Scarlet and where you meet Grigori are good examples.

>>tfw 2 (you)s
That's okay, user
That's fair enough, I did the same thing - do you not get on the boat in that ending?
I thought they did send commandos to the final mission, it's just that if you choose Scarlet to take over as your handler she supercedes them. I distinctly remember their awesome guys showing up and wrecking shit, though.
>tfw Zero Dark Thirty shows multispectral goggles but it's otherwise really difficult to find any info on them whatsoever

>What are you referring to user?
The fact that it's pretty subtly implied that (Taipei hub spoilers) he's actually a super-spy, and that he's Halbech's mission director for the assassination attempt, which is why he can play you and Deng off against each other so well
And for all that, he'll still never betray you as long as you earn his trust.

>Albatross is best
Agreed. That meeting in the park is so good.

hhhhhnnnnnnnngggggggg

But yeah her handler bonus is kind of ass

>tfw getting the achievement for romancing all the girls in one campaign

Maybe they do show in the final mission, it's been a while since I didn't murder Albatross

The goggles are neat, really give G22 a good look.

>he's actually a super-spy, and that he's Halbech's mission director for the assassination attempt, which is why he can play you and Deng off against each other so well
I never even thought about it that way, is it implied in emails that I may have missed or do you just mean how he always seems to know what's going on and is prepared for everything?

>Romance Mina and Scarlet
>Only one of them joins you on the boat
>Get the scene with SIE second playthrough
>Choose G22 for the next playthrough, SIS comes in and just unties you
Damn you, Avellone!

>That meeting in the park is so good
I can't help but show him the amulet every time I do a G22 friendly playthrough
even though it does piss him off a bit

>no sis romance

FUCKING BULLSHIT

It's really my biggest complaint about the whole game, especially because I first played the game when I was 14 and that kind of girl was my go to.

>that fake-out execution you can do by refusing the money
So good.

HOLY SHIT A CIVIL DISCUSSION ABOUT A VIDEO GAME ON Sup Forums FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER

Alpha Protocol is a fucking awesome game though.

Shotguns are underrated

>just unties you
Fuck. Still blue.
But I did like the smile she gives you

Since only like 20 people actually played it, AP threads are usually pretty nice after the first few shitposters get finished.

I put points into melee and pistols, which caused the problem. It's been a while since I last played, but what had happened was that a slowdown skill that I had activated, but didn't slow him down at all. When it deactivated however, it boosted his speed not realizing that he was already going at normal speed. The end result was him literally running from one of the area to the other in two seconds flat. I couldn't counter him since he would just chain combos so fast Thorton didn't even get the opportunity to be knocked away. All stealth did was prolong the inevitable of getting my ass kicked by hong kong phooey.

Not really, it's just that Pistols are so OP unless you are specifically not using them there is not reason to use anything else in a given situation.

That smile is truly one worth protecting.

She lies but she does it for the good of country.

Wait until he stops to melee you then Chain Shot him, when he runs away to recover, set traps, use the instant cooldown ability if you have it. Unless you already know exactly what to do a couple of the boss fights in AP are no pushover and the bugs don't help.

youtube.com/watch?v=Zg6QLyWFCbY
Is this Angry Pablo's worst review?

Man you guys are gonna make me replay again. How can i switch it up from guns/fists/stealth. Also how do i get the blowing up Leland ending.

I wouldn't know because I don't watch game reviews, I just play games, and you should too user.

>back when Sup Forums didn't get triggered by coloured hair

DAI was worse

I just did an Assault Rifles/Shotgun play through, no stealth what so ever, managed to kill MArburg in Rome. To blow up Leland you have to get him to offer you the job working for Halbech, after you kill Westridge there will be a short conversation with Leland where you give him the AP data Parker was trying to erase, if you lie you give him a mine instead

If you give me a minute I'll be happy to post my end game character stats, I put points into stealth just enough so that I could see where all the enemies were.

Don't remind me of the good times user

>spoiler
My god, user, how could you? He's the best handler in the game, apart from Best Girls Mina and (final mission girl). Just because he doesn't have a sense of humour...
Their design is fucking great, I remember doing Taipei as my first chosen hub through the game on my very first playthough, spent the entire game fighting generic militants and guys in suits; then you go to a random warehouse and there's all these hyper-alert spec ops guys patrolling the place.
>spoiler
It's pretty subtly done, it took me a few playthroughs to start thinking of it that way.
There's an email in Rome that mentions an unidentified CIA asset 'off the grid' in Taipei, the fact that both you and Deng are getting your info on the assassin off someone who isn't the Triads or the NSB (and how conveniently you both get told it's each other), Heck's data at the hotel, the fact that even though he isn't listed by name on any agency database Leland and Halbech still know who he is (whereas they don't know about G22 at all unless Mike is dumb/arrogant enough to tell them), and the fact that he knows Scarlet Lake is the assassin all along - though he'll only tell you this if he's along for the final mission.
It's so fucking well done, because it's all just suggested and nothing ever confirmed. Avellone got asked about it once, but I think he just gave one of his 'good catch' answers like for KotOR II

Impress Leland enough for him to offer you the deal, and then at the end choose to betray him

I fucking hate how this place has gone full alt right.

user I think you are underestimating how fast he was going. I could chain shot him at the start(Which I did) but after that he would just sprint me down before I could move away towards cover. If he ever did attempt to recover, it took him a second because of how fast he was going. To give an example, he could cross the area before it would take Thorton to finish a pistol reload. That's how fast this motherfucker was going. The only option I had was to reload a save WAY earlier, but that demoralized me so much I just dropped the game. After looking around for a fix, I think I'm the only one this has ever happened to, which just pissed me off more.

I got through the game gathering as many allies as possible and without killing a single person, including npcs, then I sailed away with Scarlet to make my own Halbech. Shit felt fucking great.

How much does Leland need to like me

>That Heck spoiler
user this might just turn into my favorite game of all time if you keep this shit up.

Well shit, I'm sorry to hear that user, you truly missed out on finishing a diamond in the rough. Maybe in a couple years you'll give it another try and not encounter such bullshit.

Enough to offer you the job at Halbech, so just keep sending any Halbech data you find to Halbech instead of Scarlet or the Black Market.

>AP isnt already your favorite of all time.
Disappointed in you user

>tfw no option to make Brayko your handler and steal all of Halbech's assets so you can rule the global criminal underworld as bros forever
>tfw I killed him in my first playthrough and still regret it

Sorry user but after I almost flunked out of high school because of Dark Souls I can safely call it my favorite game of all time.

>tfw getting Brayko to kill Championchik

Likewise, even though you lose reputation with him by not being courteous, you're really just trading that for a better relationship with Sis and another smile :3

Yeah, I know. She's my type of girl too, but that smile she gives you makes it all so worth it.
>tfw no option to ride off into the sunset with her

I'm not sure of any hard amount, but you gain rep with him by agreeing with his ideals about pragmatism, being professional but not wasteful, by outfoxing him like keeping Shaheed alive, even if you kill him later, and working out the Surkov connection and by bluffing and denying him information in the interrogation - not letting him know about G22, for example - but ONLY if you can back it up.

Here's my Thorton from my last playthrough

Jesus

Yeah, please post your end character stats. I wanna see how many orphans you created.

>874 Orphans Created
I feel like I could've gotten more, I wonder if it's a set amount for each NPC or not. This image is from right after walking into the final boss room.

Also forgot to mention
>180 Endurance
>250 Health
Good fucking luck with those miniguns Westridge

I'm not sure if the orphans are set or not. I do know that killing the Arabs creates more than other NPCs.

I could've gotten more than I did I took down a lot of enemies with the Shotgun crit and then stomping them which is considered non lethal

I remember figuring this out on my second play through and just laughing then telling my racist dad.

What?

I never put that together about Heck. Whether true or not, it's cool.
>she lies but she does it for the good of country
Not just the country, the entire world.
Everybody in the game is lying to everybody else. It's great. Real secret-keepin' bidness simulator

All those stats

>go full sneaky git with martial arts since I'm aiming for no kills
>Brayko's coke rage
>that mission where the embassy gets attacked and you have to keep the Russian guy alive
>Darcy in his shit tower

What's wrong with them?

The pistol has non lethal rounds for those situations. But they definitely spike the difficulty out of nowhere in a good way.

>user this might just turn into my favorite game of all time if you keep this shit up.
Sorry user, that's probably the best thing I've yet discovered about this game. Of course, there's always just trivia which you probably already know, like how Mike isn't your character's actual name, or how you can get some unique mission summaries by doing shit like taking out Championchik with only martial arts, or G22/Sis speculation...
Playing the game a million times and working out which specific action gives you which result is fun, though.

>>tfw getting Brayko to kill Championchik
That would have to be the best line in the whole damn game that doesn't involve Heck
"I give him 6-point-4 for the dismount, but he did not stick the landing."

Yeah, so you could always try and maximise the amount of Al Samad you kill.
In fact, I might try and see what the maximum amount of orphans created you can get...

>4 (You)s
I'm posting too much for one thread but I love the game too much to stop

>In fact, I might try and see what the maximum amount of orphans created you can get
Use Assault Rifles and Sub Machine Guns, also check if NPCs have a set value for their children. If you're going to use Shotguns don't be dumb like me and stomp a bunch of motherfuckers.

After some rare and unique praise here years back, I picked this up, put a few hours in. It really did have some good ideas for a TPS/espionage type game, aside from feeling so crude in the areas big budget titles prioritize.

Really worth revisiting, I just got distracted by shinier stuff at the time.

My favorite part of the game is that there is no wrong or right way to play the game. Only your way.

It for sure isn't a fully polished game.
I almost quit it my first time through in the first airstrip mission when it glitched and no enemies showed up.
But now I've played through it about seven times (and this thread is making me want to start again) and have a blast each time.

>tfw replay the game at least once a year and still find small new details each time

I actually tried tranqing Darcy a shitload of times, but his grenade spam, lightning-fast armor regen and constantly ducking behind cover made that a pain in the ass. Eventually I lined up 5 armor piercing rounds on his head so I could dope him down after, but then his head just exploded and so fuck him.

If you go to the tower with the sniper rifle he doesn't duck down as much since you are on an even level.

I gotta try that

That shouldn't have messed up your no-kill run, as bosses don't count towards deaths

At least that's how it was in my last play through, if you get up there and Chain Shot him with tranqs, then Brilliance, then Chain Shot again should be no problem.

>I never put that together about Heck. Whether true or not, it's cool.
Yeah, I wish I could find that interview to judge his answer again. Still, it's interesting. So much detail put into the game.
>Mina
She's qt fun to flirt with, anyway, I don't know why people dislike her so much.
>tfw nesoun was drawing lewds of this game at one point

>I'm posting too much for one thread but I love the game too much to stop
Same but I have to go to sleep now
I'll have to try that max-orphan run, though.
Have fun, anons!
Now there's a pretty picture...

Whats your favourite combat style Sup Forums ?
mines zweihander shotgun+fire grenades

Goodnight user. I'll probably do a max orphan play through soon as well now that I know how easy going loud in every mission is.

I don't like anyone specific thing, just love everything

Nothing just high as fuck

Well I am max level, and it's an end game screenshot.

Well it was a fun thread lads, goodnight.

Leave then

I'm playing sabotage/tech and shotguns/rifles right now and I feel like the game kinda wants you to go stealth for a lot of missions even though I completely ignore it

MMMMPPPPHMMMM!

>tfw you romance the blonde girl, unlock 100% of her dossier, find out she's the daughter of Alpha Protocol's logistics head and then tell him that Leland murdered her, causing him to shoot Leland.

aaaaaaaaaaa

Got what he deserved

I NEED THE MUSIC, GIMME SOME MO'

you'll get it eventually, I thought it was impossible as well at the beginning.
It will never stop being my less favorite minigame though.

This game holds the same place as Deadly Premonition in my heart.

They're both a bit messy, broken, there's so many things that don't work as they should but yet the sum of their parts makes them enjoyable games.
