It's widely regarded to be an awful soundchip, it can handle PCM voices but the quality is fucking abysmal. There are plenty of games that made it sing, but I guarantee they are not in the majority. The worst offences are usually SNES ports, the FF soundtracks on them are a fucking joke.

the problem with the GBA soundchip is the 8000hz limit on output. even if your samples are better, it will be downsampled to 8000hz for the output
someone restored the mother 3 soundtrack by ripping out the original midi files and samples and re-rendering them on a PC
