Both Startropics games just dropped on the Wii U eShop today!

Who else is buying these games and making Miiverse posts requesting Startropics 3? $2 total for me since I already own them in Wii Mode.

I fucking love Startropics.

I guess it's time to play it again. I never played 2 so I'm gonna start with that one.

The eshop music this month is so good. Makes me sad and happy ;_;

it's in the NA eshop?

Yep. In about 40 min.

>no 3DS

Why?

sweet. i have st2 on the nes, but i haven't played st1. i'll buy both when they drop

ST1 is better imo. But, you know how opinions go.

You can't jump or move diagonally, but I find that to be a more solid and well-designed control scheme.

haven't played ST2 in about 15 years. really remember liking the "Zelda but in the modern-day tropics!!" aesthetic

still, can't remember much about the game, so it'll be neat to see how i like both

The graveyard is a fucking bitch in the first game.

I played them both last year and I think each movement scheme has its strenghts and weaknesses. ST2 is a lot more loose and you can avoid enemies and projectiles much more smoothly by moving and jumping diagonally. On the other hand, not being on a grid forces you to position yourself correctly before jumping over pits and having directional influence during jumps prevents you from jumping in a direction while attacking in another, which was very useful in ST1. I can't say which I prefer overall.

>startropics 3
Will never fucking happen. Probably for better and worse.
I found ST1 to be a better puzzle game, but ST2 to be a better action game. It feels faster-paced and there's a lot more fighting enemies and bosses going on with not only the items, but also the weapons and psychic blasts. I think Zoda's final fight in 2 got gypped by not having a unique theme. That said, >those ST1 remixes
The hypest fucking shit, especially because of the eerie atmosphere going on due to the entire C-Island being pretty much empty now.

I still get the feeling that area was glitched, and was probably supposed to flicker or something instead of being pitch fucking black.

What is confirmed: Tanabe and Retro have been working together on a Genyo Takeda game. They also hired the environmental artists for Uncharted and Darksiders, officially as part of the team

Guess work: What is left is star tropics (nes), Sheriff (arcade), and a gradius clone called fire bird (arcade) with a jump button. Take a good guess which game is it. I'll let you think about it yourself, no need to reply for me.

I actually could never get past the graveyard as a kid.
Never beat this game until I gave it another go sometime during college.

>hired western artists
It's going to be a sheriff reboot.
Westerners have no idea how to design cool space ships, and there's no way in hell they'd do another startropics.

How the hell has this game not even gotten a mention in Smash ever

This shit was the bomb

Nintendo's western branch and no release in japan, so stankurai never played it.
Even rayman got a jap release.

How the fuck will you even play it without the secret message letter?

I feel bad for younglings who never got to experience that thrill.

Thanks for the erection.

The page dipped in water is scanned in the digital manual.

StarTropics was a western game

Wat.

Retro is in Texas and they did the Metroid Prime series (nothing but cool space-stuff).

Also, most of StarTropics takes place in natural or historical environments.

Couldn't you already get these on the Wii VC?

You know, even back in like 1991 most people didn't get to experience that.

FuncoLand didn't sell cases/boxes with their shit. The vast and incredible majority of people bought games secondhand for like $5.

yeah

It'd be a great time to reboot it making it look like Uncharted but with crazy wild life and yo-yos.

It was mentioned in the Chronicle in Brawl.

That's depressing, shit blew my fucking mind at the time

sakurai hasn't even played games that were released in japan.

doesn't matter for shit, everything they published then was chronicled. like Irem's Kung Fu or Hamtaro Ham Ham Heartbreak.

I've been saying this for years.

I think it could be a pillar series along with Mario and Zelda. Nintendo's "AAA" series.

THEY'RE UP!

anybody feel like buying number 1 and testing the manual for you know?

Unless NOA is even more retarded than usual, there's no need for that. Game's been out in the EU for a year and I can confirm by having it that the code is there.

No they aren't.

But, they're supposed to be. Any minute now?

The letter will be in the manual and look nice to boot. That's how it is in the Wii version. A nicely made digital copy of the letter.

Made by japs.

Good point.

>want to make gold coins from my.nintendo website
>10 gold coins if i spend $5.00
>game is $4.99
>this one penny is preventing me to get closer to some bullshit digital code.

Welcome to the new age.

Wasn't this shit supposed to be up 15 minutes ago?

It might as well release 10 years from now at this point. Maybe it never will.

UP!

>All this hype
I guess I'll give it a go.

The fact it was never released in Japan in any shape or form is probably why.

The digital manual includes a digital letter that you can dip into digital water

I can only assume the Wii u just uses the exact same thing.
Shame though because it doesn't replicate the entire secret message, just the gameplay important part.

>just found my NES copy of Startropics in a plastic tote still in box
Whelp I know how I'm gonna spend the next 8 hours

I forgot about that. Fucking cool.

The Wii U version only has a nice scan. It's cool too so you can see the real letter. Pic related.

The more reason to reboot it for the NX. Japan loves their teenagers wielding basball bats and yo-yos, so give it to them.

Wait, but how are they gonna do they physical puzzle with the soaking of the paper in water from the game box

>TFW my copy of startropics doesn't work any more

>Westerners have no idea how to design cool space ships
???

Digitally, we just posted pics.

Buy the Wii U version, dude. It's the only way we'll get a new one.

Too bad I don't own a WiiU. I've been debating it for a while, but nothing on it really calls out to me. I can still play my NES/SNES games on system, so I don't really need to emulate unless I want save games.

I never beat the game because of the huge difficulty spike at the end ;_;

I believe I got to Zoda or the boss right before him. Shit's hard.

Nice thread.
