Has any game ever done forests right?
Every time when a game has a forest it's either really fucking tiny or the trees are spread miles apart, usually a combination of both of those
Witcher 3 came really close but in the end they kinda pussied out

no
But probably not because they dont want or cant but because it would be kinda unfun
The Witcher 3 has the closest thing to real forests I've ever seen in a game.
The sound especially is dead on.
Tall Trees in RDR was the closest I've seen. You can play Skyrim with a mod to add a lot more foliage to the forests, but it ends up making it hard to see. Which is why most games don't do realistic tree growth.
...
arma?

The forests in Skyrim weren't too bad.
>no pics from INSIDE the forest
No shit that pictures from outside look good.
Skyrim's LOD mechanics are LMAO-tier
The forests in Kingdom Come look really good, at least on youtube

Darkroot garden was nice.
Alan Wake
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War crisis, the original, the game had extremely dense, tall forests. Unfortunately it's going on two decades old.
GTA IV's Urban jungle
A forest alone isn't much of a game.
You still need an objective of some kind and that's hard to place when trees are everywhere.
A proper in-game forest would probably boil down to either a slender- or a survival game. Settings which are quite saturated imo.
>trees are all 50 feet apart
The Hunter
God, I love Chernarus. The comfiest vidiya world ever.
Not many, arma comes close.
Ironically the Forest feels like it does forests pretty well, it's early access so the optomization is sort of shit still, but the forest itself looks great.
>that
>50 feet
you sure got some weird vision
>you
>understanding hyperbole
you sure got some weird autism
It's never going to leave early access
Deliverance looks neat
Yeah that one seems to have pretty good forests, will check it out once it's rele...
>Already 2 years in early access
Nevermind
>not setting view distance to far
>not setting view fade to off
>not setting far distance models to high quality
I hate when games scale individual tree models down to be really tiny, nothing ruins the immersion more than not having full size real life trees.
The Arma 2/ Day Z map Chernarus kinda gets it right but it's not until you look at some of the custom player made maps where forests get really good.
watch the tanoa teaser / whatever there are many shots from inside. Shit's dense
Here, open your mouth
