How good is it compared to PoFV, both in gameplay and connectivity? I played Touhou 9 a lot with a friend and we both really wanted more games like that but ZUN never delivered.

It's like mixing the worst aspects of Puyo Puyo and a generic shmup together. Also terrible slowdown. Not sure how anyone can enjoy this trash.

Fellow PoFV player here. PoFV is a slightly different beast from TSS, with a heavier focus on slower bullets with high bullet density, and clearing bullets is easier as well. The charging system with different tiers of attacks is similar to PoFV, but I don't believe that using an attack this way clears your screen although it's been a while, so I could be wrong. It might be best to just look up gameplay footage to find out for sure.

TSS plays a bit more like PoDD, actually, except it's a really good game instead of being shit.

Do you have Metal Slug X or 3 on Steam? Compared both Humble and Steam version and this is the difference. Basically it's a higher tier of quality in itself along with multiplayer with Steam friends and lobbies. Seriously, if they didn't actually add multiplayer lobbies stuff I would likely be shitting on that Steam release and would drive to DotEmu's HQ to tell them to fix the fucking game (they're french company).

To be fair the lobby system in Twinkle Star Sprites uses Steam servers. So Steam is actually being useful for the online system.

Haven't been able to play it yet, but on the Steam forums the only guy who played it online said it was good.

My point is the steam port is using GGPO's garbage netcode, and running on a shitty MAME fork, it's really REALLY bad, and for $8 I can't recommend it at all to anyone. Especially since there's NO FUCKING CARDS, HOW HARD WOULD IT HAVE BEEN, THERE'S FUCKING GORILLIONS OF CONCEPT ART PICS OF ALL THE CHARS.

if i had friends who were interested in these kind of games we can just play it on emulator and even they are far we can still use fightcade
because the game doesnt really has that much community so finding random people to play online will be really hard

Netplay code is good, but DotEmu handles it like shit...basically if connection drops, is not netcode's fault, but the emulator's.

I actually played the game with Kawaks netcode and it worked fine. So if it's better than Kawaks it can't be that bad for TSS.

Trust me user, even the dotemu netplay can't be that bad if it's better than kawaks.

GGPO netcode is generally speaking better than the one used in Kawaks, but still it needs to run in a good emulator to be used properly, and DotEmu is not even decent.
Kawaks netplay is way better than the netplay in this steam release, because DotEmu + GGPO literally sucks.

And anyway, Fightcade is vastly superior than GGPO.
