Haven't worked in my game at all this past week since I just moved into my new place. Opened photoshop to continue making tilesets and closed it immediately afterwards. :(

I've posted some plot details and screenshots, but I think only one person has ever offered any criticisms or suggestions. How do I not give up? I really want to make this game so my little brother can play it when he's older.

Post it again, user.

I'm at work right now, unfortunately. Only thing I have in my dropbox is this outdated water animation. If this thread is still up by midnight, I'll post screenshots.

Reposting from last thread

time stops when you shoot a ball that's going pretty fast for more hype

also WIP of this goddes of the living

What are some overhead 2D games with nice sprites?

Preferably with sprites that are a bit larger than the ones in pokémon / mother / final fantasy.

Advance Wars

Or, are they still too small?

GB Zelda games?
Link's Awakening art is marvelous.

this is pretty fucking spooky user

They're good but they were designed for gameboy and I want to make a computer game.

Something like "enter the gungeon" and "nuclear throne" for example.

>muh retro pixel shit
kys

Got hit by a bus, so I haven't done work in like 2 weeks. I can type slowly with one hand, but its a bitch to actually code or model.

You mean that your game will be like gungeon or nuclear throne, or that you want the sprites to be similar in size to the sprites in those games?

meant to reply to

the latter

you must be bus-y

>kys
Lurk for at least 2 years before posting here.

It's a new meme

It'd be cool to have an enhanced 'become a legend' mode in PES, sort of a football RPG.
Imagine choosing whether to stay home or going out at night and having the manager punish you and shit. Fucking football sluts left and right, wrecking shit, fighting your teammates, hanging out with the ultras or being loyal to your gf, getting along with your teammates and fighting the ultras.

Fucking hell, I'm hyped just by thinking about it.
Please, Sup Forums, make it happen.

>kys
why do these 12 year olds post here?

Snes games, then? it depends what aesthetic/theme you want to have in your game, but you have plenty of styles in that era's games

Super Mario World, Joe & Mac, Earthworm Jim, Super Castelvania, Super Metroid, Sim City.

Alternatively, you can look for older PC games that used sprites, like Jazz Jackrabbit, Doom or Transport Tycoon

What even is an ultra?

Go away. These are facebook shits and I'm surprised it still hasnt been filtered. Damn it Hiro.

Where the fuck do I even start?

I want to make a tower defense game. Is Gamermaker the best engine for me?

Hey guys user from the thread before.
Making a top down shooter focused around putting the player in a maze that requires puzzle solving and top down shootin.
I made a lives system, checkpoint system, and a hook shot system.
Just need to tweak the hook shot a bit so you can't spam it nonstop and if you hit certain object it moves the player towards the hook shot instead.

Probably, yeah. It's quite easy to learn and something simple like a TD game is very doable in Game Maker.

want a laugh?
check out this there where an aspie nodev is trying to shill his unity asset store early access shovelware

fixed the roof

I still need to learn how to pixelart and shade, though

youtube.com/watch?v=FNmbHkNFZ5Y

thread* fuck

Hoolingans that leech off the club by re-selling tickets, charging money for parking around the stadium, getting a cut of food carts' profits, you name it.

Pic related, River Plate ultras or 'barrabravas'.

start doing tutorials.
stick with one enginte until you learn enough to realize that it doesn't fit your game.
if you see that an engine is "the one", continue doing tutorials until you get a hang of the basic, and start doing your shit.
you'll get blocked constantly, don't hesitate in googling the fuck out of the code.

the first step to doing pixel art is to learn how to draw to begin with
should probably focus on that for a while unless you're trying to get something out ASAP

Recently put up a separate no-music version of, for those who might not like a 100MB download (as per suggestion in the previous thread):

thetagames.itch.io/dienworlds

It's a freeware power grid management/tycoon-style game (written in C) that involves cellular automata. I'm really proud of it, and just want others to see the ideas I had (I do think the game is pretty unique).

it looks like DF.

does it controls like DF?

this is the worst piece of shit i have ever seen in my entire life and i am not even slightly exaggerating

it looks like fucking adventure quest with somehow even less gameplay lmfao

My first thought was "that looks like ass" and my second thought was "that battle system looks like it could actually be cool".

I have no point to make, but I just thought you might like to know.

You decided to switch over to pixel art?

>defending indie pixel shit
kys

It does have keyboard controls, but far, far, far, far (I don't think I can add enough "fars") fewer, and I would say more intuitive.

thanks a lot

I second , game maker is perfect for something like TD.

I don't think I can spare the time, I can only improvise stuff.

thank you, but I'll fight you for the "even less gameplay lmfao" part

that's what I usually get.

the map graphics use pseudo pixel art, as in zoomed out pixel art so not REALLY in the style.

So the easiest engine to get into is Gamemaker right?

I've used RPGMaker a lot before, but that is very simple. Even the scripts you use are very easy to understand and remember.

well, if you can't spare the time to improve on the basics I hope you're prepared for people bashing how it looks
no shortcuts for making things look good, good luck anyway though

Reminds me of RimWorld for some reason

I've been remaking Hollywood Holocaust for Postal 2.

well, I can try to learn the basics, at least.

which you think is worse, the map pixelart, or the coloring/shading of the bis sprites?

my plan was to kickstart the coloring and pixelart later on, but if that fails I'll have to make do and make it look decent enough.

probably the perspective.

I actually like this art style, despite what others have said. It has an interesting color palette, and the trees are cute.

But, besides, gameplay is king, anyway.

I wanted to install unreal on my macbook, but I'm 0.0.4 updates being and the only download I can do is El capitan which is shit. Won't be on my desktop for a week but making progress.

Getting back to work on this soon.
Having fun making tilesets my own way, I think my process is different from most other people.

Wooow dude nothing I could do instant death

I would just refine what you have now. Pixel art is boring and probably wouldn't turn out any better.

>lever behind the bookcase
>somehow reach lever while standing in front of bookcase

I mean I guess it's possible but most people would be standing at the side

WIP on the tileset.
The process is this:
>Make a 3d model of what I need in blender.
>Scale it down, and change it as I see fit in photoshop.
>Add to my tile-sheet.
>Never have a completely fucked perspective on anything.

I don't mind if you use it, nor do you have to give credit if you do.

It was a joke meant to test something.

thank you. I don't mean to boast but I think I do have the creativity to make unique, yet familiar scenes and setpieces.

I just lack the actual skill to make them.

but yes, I'm betting in all on the gameplay. I already have it fully sorted out now.

yeah, I'll most probably leave it at a really simplistic style and focus on the rest.

I'll still try to go for that kickstarter though. I'll have a complete game right off the bat, a modest goal and plenty of stretches.

what could possibly go wrong?

That's a pretty cool idea.

But I'm better at pixel art than I am at modeling, so it's good for a select few I suppose

>kickstarter
That sounds like a good idea. People who've been burned on kickstarter will be relieved that your game is completely finished.

Definitely put out as good a demo as you can to demonstrate the gameplay, as that's what you're banking on

the music is so fucking awful holy shit

The music is the only part of the game that I'm interested in.

in game footage of the new chick

sadly I didn't have time to model her entire vagina and cervix like that Alyx half life 2 mod sorry guys

hahaha

Game looks cute, though.

I just released my android game and I think it turned out pretty good. I used UE4. Would appeciate if ya'll can download and rate it. thnx.

Just put in the second enemy which basically followed the same scripts as the first one, which is nice. Still have to figure out that camera shake issue a little in, but I've worked enough today.

Time to hit the gym and play some Earthbound

imo the freeze is too long, the freeze should be just barely perceptible

How did you do that distortion effect at the end?

Been hired to do some groundwork on a really weird game. Basically you play as an adventurer with the goal to fuck every living creature you defeat. Is like Conan sex RPG on steroids. I got so flustered when I went over some of the early encounters where you can turn an entire town with the d. Too embarrassed to tell my family what I work on. Whatever, I do it for the money so that I can work on my own game.

RPG maker MV is free on steam for the next 2 days if anyone wants to try it out.

I'm just an idea's guy tier developer, but I've been thinking about this sort of Coop Action Game for the past 2 years. It's like if you we're to mix Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma, with some light sci-fi elements.

You pick a race at the start of the game, set up a D&D style character sheet, and then you just roam around 10 or so open ended levels with your friends, searching for monsters to kill and quests to do. There are also dungeons with bosses who drop loot which you can farm at your leisure.

The game has no leveling system, and it's entirely dependent on gear progression, so everything you do relating to unlocks is via in game currency, and sometimes loosely based on progressing through the story.

I know it's something I'll never be able to make on my own, but I like to dream about making it one day.

>sci fi MH
Already been done, play Lost Planet 2

I actually played Lost Planet 2, only problem was GFWL prevented me from playing with friends.

Looks cool so far user! Reminds me of that old flash game 'Ronin: spirit of the sword'.
My note would be to put a little more detail into the backgrounds since I assume you'll be seeing them a lot during battles. Maybe even incorporate it into the battle system, like give an enemy places to hide and strike from, or make the player try and figure out where they are to strike at them.

I gave up. trying to make money off of it is just too much hassle. fucking taxes and declaring yourself as a business. shit's too much for a hikki like me.

Can we set up a twitter bot or something to let us know when there is a Sup Forums gamedev thread? These threads are comfy as fuck and I hate to miss them.

just make a filter to put the thread on top. use words like "dev thread" or "how's your game", etc'

progress haha :)

Got a quick hangar screen up.

Now I have to do the UI and texture the hangar.

I did some sprites for a couple of Terraria mods and whatever I decided to do on the forums for suggestions threads, but can never work up the motivation to learn how to code and put that to more use.

what happened with the dude that always posted his sprites here. i really liked his style.

Finally, fucking finally, starting working on my game again. It's been like 2 months since I last was able to sit down and work on it, but I forced myself to make some damn progress tonight.

That progress? Getting it to build again. RIP.

I'm interested too. If the thread is gone just come over /agdg/ and talk to us about your game if you think it might motivate you.

Really nice attention to detail. I love how everything turns blue when you're in water.

how do you guys work on the game? do you just think of a 'scene' and work on it regardless of it's location in the timeline or do you work chronologically?

Post music samples from your games and anons try to guess what genre your game is.

Thanks friend. Before i had to stop working on it I had just gotten fire and water to work.

Now that I have the old code base building, I'm going to use it as a foundation for a new, better-architectured game that can help me make a more complex roguelike.

I don't get this maymay.

I work on mechanics first and make a bunch of scripts once they actually work bug-free

then I do "scenario" and implement the scripts accordingly

rpg

Finally rigged one of my characters! Still has some changes to be made though. Bone placement was the biggest hurdle here, and it's not a topic I see talked about much.

I'm still looking for any programmers to work with, if anyone is interested in collaborating, let me know :D

give her normal hair.

Nope

what engine?

Either Unity or Unreal.

I'd prefer Unity for a customisable toon shader, but Unreal's blueprint system would mean I could help with low level code stuff.
