So I've been playing MGSO for TES: Morrowind and can not seem to find an optimized settting for the fps.
Can any of you Morrowind MGSO fans out there give some tips or configurations that work for you?
I have a complete clean install of morrowind ready to install MGSO again so I can choose the right options. My computer is about 1 and a half years old now. I use a big moniter that I usually run games full screen in at 1920x1080. I know the resolution has an effect on the fps.
TL;DR ---> I am playing morrowind modded with MGSO and I need help configuring for best frames per second
Oh dont worry man, I've tried forums all over. Just carpet bombing the web for oppinions is all
Andrew King
Let me tell you ONE thing, Morrowind is absolutely trash at optimization, wait for openmw, it'll allow the game to utilize an engine that will allow for great optimized play, as of right now, you'll hit and miss ALOT and it won't be your fault, just wait if FPS is important to you
Brody Reyes
>MGSO stop.
Jordan Allen
You can't, remember the engine is from 2002, even on my 980 I get 25 FPS in Balmora with MGSO.
Evan Foster
Ah, don't really have any other advice, tbqh. I just followed the guides there when I was setting Morrowind up.
Easton Flores
but what if I like the combat system in morrowind? and also, have they reached 1.0 yet?
do you have any suggestions that clearly rival MGSO. even just a few little mods just to start?
well. Since a bigger moniter obviouly isnt the solution? Just I just use the laptop screen, instead? Did you accomplish that in full screen or some windowed resolution? I would like to at least get 30 frames outside
with the exception of Balmora of course.
Landon Green
Open the MGE XE set up and lower the distant land to like 3 cells. Turn off some of the shadow settings. Go through and make adjustments to settings that you think will be demanding.
Wyatt Harris
The thing with MGSO is that it's pretty old. For instance, it uses an outdated version of the MCP. Many other textures as well. If you have the patience, it's far better to track down and download all the mods the MGSO uses. One of the best ways to deal with FPS is disable Distant Lands and visibility, which allows the PC to load far less info as you move.
Christian Thompson
Your screen doesn't matter, it's your resolution. I was getting shitty FPS at 1080p, you can try decreasing the resolution in the MGE XE settings but it will look like shit because you most likely have a native 1080p resolution unless you're playing on a toaster in which case you shouldn't even have installed MGSO in the first place.
Caleb Collins
and I assume you're saying that this mod configuration doesnt have a bad performance hit as well? or am I mistaken?
Thanks for putting up with this N'wah
Thanks for putting up with a stupid N'wah
Alexander Lopez
Is that what the Guide: Morrowind does that user posted? Or do you think those are just random mods that are better than MGSO
Nicholas Harris
I'm not talking about the combat system, I'm talking about how the game is optimized and how it can't handle too many graphical mods well, even with a really good graphics card and CPU, it'll lag like shit because of optimization. No openmw hasn't made it to 1.0, but they're making steady progress, which i'm excited about
Christian Roberts
>tfw try to play my old playthrough again >Getting a message about missing mods >New version of tamriel rebuilt gives me an error that crashes the game
All I wanted to do was dick around in Morrowind, don't have a clue what's causing the issue.
Owen Campbell
My pleasure Sera
Tyler Rodriguez
wut MGSO has all of those, they're just old versions.
William Reed
I was wondering about Tamriel rebuilt. So whats the verdict on that?
Jonathan Perry
Wait for OpenMW That's really all there is to do Morrowind's Gamebyro iteration just doesn't play nice with modern hardware and MGSO just exacerbates the problem.
Levi Hughes
No reason not to use it, adds a huge amount of content. Still incomplete, but there's a LOT to see and do. Pretty much the entire east side has quests, interiors, NPC's, everything needed for the game. The west has exteriors mostly done, but doesn't have much else.
Jordan James
Yeah but I really dont want to touch the thing until the finished project. But thats probably going to be a little while down the road.
Isaac Harris
>a little while down the road It will never reach that stage. They'll keep adding shit until it gets wholly abandoned.
Zachary Stewart
The thing is still a far ways away from being finished, you'll be waiting awhile. The content that's there is really good, it's very well done, feels right at place in the game. It's also fun to explore and see the interesting areas.
They may eventually reach a stopping point, but it doesn't look anytime soon. They've got mostly all the exteriors done in the main area, but there's still a lot of work they plan to do on the central southern areas like where Almalexia is. I think it's really impressive they've made it this far.
Jose Williams
how many people do you think will be bringing it all back to life when it reaches 1.0
oh
Elijah Rogers
If im going to abandon MGSO and go to a list of updated mods in a guide or something, do you think there will compatability issues or no?
Ethan Edwards
for using Tamriel rebuilt that is
Jace Gray
Nah TR is compatible with almost everything as long as it doesn't occupy the same space it occupies. I've never had any issues with it and a lot of mods have compatibility patches for it if they do.
I mean sure I want a good fps, but Im a sucker for overhauls and guide and shit. And I already played morrowind vanilla, its not like I need it. Im just upgrading
Brandon Scott
>do you mean this?
Yes.
You can easily run MGSO with 60 FPS, I dunno what all the fuss is about.
Ian Price
well I simply didnt know about it. >60 FPS surely you mean inside? r-r-r-right?
Xavier Price
I have an FX 8350 and a 3GB 7950 and I run the game at 60 FPS with all the high-end MGSO options.
Then again, I know how to mess around with Distant Land settings.
Aiden Price
Yeah that's it, I liked it, made it look good, didn't go too overboard.
William Robinson
Personally I've been playing vanilla from years and MGSO is refreshing as fuck. It seriously breathed some new life into the game for me and it was nice for the installation to be so easy for my retarded ass.
Daniel King
MGSO a shit.
I kept getting a bug where my game would freeze whenever the music would change, I had to reinstall my entire game.
Aiden Watson
well the most I've tweaked is the is the gui.exe setting. yeah thats a no brainer, but when I was going all out in tweaking that gui, I expected more of a frame rate jump. Because I didnt know where to go from there, i come to a few forums and this thread. So is it as simple as just putting it in the directery and running the exe? what is the procedure
my thoughts exactly, except for this whole frame rate business
how heavy hitting is it?
Ian Powell
The thing that matters most is the cell draw distance. 13 is a good setting but you can set it lower if you want to.
Aiden Nguyen
most of the time for MGSO I usually have to bring it downt to 4 or lower unless I want 10 frames or lower outside. This is all with the fact that Im running full screen on a nice moniter. Sure I could have a kick ass game in a tiny ass window but fuck that desu
Being able to see Vivec city from sayda neen is sooooo nice. And I dont know about you guys but the heavy up close fog bugs the shit out of me
And witht he GUI and the game region options GUI I pulled out all the stops, The best I can get outside is 15-25. but that is not full screen even still. Its less than fullscreen.
