RTS rebirth when?
RTS
Age of Chivalry : Hegemony
NEVER. RTS genre is dead, MOBA has taken its place.
RTS is dead forever, and for good reason. Ultimately they were nothing but overly convoluted versions of MOBA with fake depth.
RTS are dead because noone buys RTS anymore, or you are that one faggot that keeps fellating Supreme Commander and refuses to try anything else.
>RTS rebirth when?
It's called MOBA.
you can't fool us. not even you believe what you just wrote
When Total War goes back to s good setting and gets collision physics right.
>and for good reason
what reason?
When aoe2g takes off
>overly convoluted mechanics
>micromanagement disguised as depth
>only those with naturally fast enough reflexes can compete
Need I say more? This genre has nothing to offer anyone anymore. DoTA and the like are similar to chess in how they're handled, whereas every RTS just boils down to autistically pressing buttons fast-
DoTA has proved that RTS are an obselete genre
RTS isn't completely dead. There's still SC2, at least. I don't know how popular age of empires is anymore though.
MOBA doesn't count.
I hope they start making C&C games again. At least Red Alert and Generals. I think the Tiberium series ended with 4, even though it was shit, but I wouldn't mind seeing another Tiberium game. Either they pull some time travel shenanigans to retcon 4 out of existence and make a proper Tiberium game.
It would at least be better than SC2.
You will only get WE shitposting with that image.
I know you are shitposting but holy fucking shit let us mourn our dead genre, seriously have some respect for the dead.
not the same guy but you always need some kind of bait to start something new these days.
oh i know, i once started a thread with such a fucking baity OP that got everyone triggered, and then fun discussion happened.
Honestly, at least we have DoW3 to look foward to, for all the DED GENRE jokes you at least see games being made so it's not that bad
I really enjoyed the C&C games back 5-8 years ago. Only really played Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath, and Zero Hour. Actually I played 4, but that was garbage

I'm trying to learn Dominions 4 right now.
I would unleash my autism and say something like
>Dominions 4
>RTS
but not today, i'm tired and sad.
What Nation are you playing, i really hope you are playing Ermor
I don't understand why people say MOBAs killed RTS. Just because they have similar control schemes, that's like saying Diablo and other games like it killed RTS. I guess left to right shoot em ups killed 2d platformers. RTS were slowing down before MOBAs got popular, way before.
It's close enough that I felt I should bump your thread. I'm just looking at some tutorial videos and following along right now. I've barely played any RTS games, or whatever you'd call Dominions 4, so it doesn't come intuitively. I could barely figure out how to move on my own.
I played a bunch of Dominion 4, mostly as ermor, and if the stuff people are saying is true, ermor doesn't play at all like the other races.
So one day i played like celtic people with forest magic and shit... It was kind of dull to be honest, i really missed my hordes of endless zombies.
I guess the best advice to get wtf is going on is to understand the magic system, then the stupidly complex combat system then the differences between Nations.
Ya I'm slowly getting it. I mostly just need to get the very basics down and the rest will come with time. It seems like a game I could really get into so here's hoping, thanks user.
np, i honestly want to play dominions with people but goddamn the fucking price for the game never drops.
I want to support the devs but they charge way too much.
Is it pricey? I assumed it would be cheap. I pirated because it's a genre I'm not super familiar with and I'm Canadian. If I come to like it I'll buy it for the online, been too much of a casual lately.
Well, for what it is, i feel it is way too much to ask for. I was able to afford Dawn of war 2 and like 3 more games on sale for the price of dominions 4 on sale.
It wouldn't hurt them to make a 75% discount, maybe then more people will actually buy the damn thing instead of pirating and having fun vs AI
More waifus
i assume the comparisons are drawn from the fact that most of the popular mobas have played like controlling 1 hero in an rts, and the whole thing about how the entire genre got started as a wc3 map. That parts pretty unique.
I know sup com fanboys have already been mentioned, but i really do think that game got the balance of micro vs macro right. I love starcraft, but it's never going to be a game you can relax and play
>tfw getting better at supreme commander
Will there ever be a game to top it in modern times? I doubt it. ;_;
What's your favourite hidden RTS gem?
Pic related for me, it's so much fun creating your own units, and you have a big selection with the official DLCs aswell as unofficial creature packs
A bunch actually
Spellforce 1 & 2
Armies of Exigo
Battlerealms
Homeworld Cataclysm
Sins of a solar empire rebellion
Planetary Annihilation was our last hope, and it screwed the pooch badly. So no SupCom is the last of the bloodline.
.... I honestly wish there was a good moba right now
Don't think I could call it a hidden gem, but I've played countless hours of BFME 2
Have you tried the Edain mod for ROTWK? it's really good.
Atleast it as dedicated support from the modding community. They've really done a great job with FAF.
Isn't Ashes of the Singularity more or less a SupCom clone?
There's always Forged Alliance Forever, which I hear is a pretty good ladder
I haven't, what does it do? I was pretty disappointed in ROTWK because I felt alot of the added stuff felt like bad fanfic shit
It already has been saved
Last I heard AotS dropped the ball. It has nowhere near the complexity or strategic depth of SupCom, so it just ended up being pretty looking units clashing in a huge blob.
Get that bait out of here.
From what i've seen of Ashes of Singularity is that is an even more generic looking version of Supreme commander, hell, at least Sup Com had experimentals and all the medium tanks looked unique from one another but AoS looks like a bland mess
Actually, Edain mod goes for a more lore friendly aproach, goes back to predetermined building slots, and adds a shitton of new things, for example, mordor has this cool mechanic where you get to summon sauron in early game, and depending of certain conditions sauron levels up, gets new skills and makes the nazgul stronger.
Shit is great, only thing missing are the goblins as a race fuck if they are non canon the spider riders were based as fuck
I've only played one game online so far but it's really a totally different experience. Genuine diplomacy adds a whole new layer to the game that changes everything. Against AI you just progressively roll out against their retard hordes until you win, but against experienced players you need to bargain for borders and make allies to survive. And $20 isn't too bad for how much you can get out of the game. Once you're in you're really in and you'll easily get several hundred hours down. I also pirated first though, probably took about 12 hours to get a feel for what the fuck's going on.
