PS3 Emulator

So, why is a PS3 emulator still not available? Except the useless things that can run a couple of homebrews. Please don't tell me "it's hard to make one and takes a lot of effort", the thing came out 10 years ago. Are you seriously telling me nobody bothered to make one in that time? It can't be that insanely difficult. An emu for PS2 came out like 2-3 years after the console release. What gives?

Does nobody really bother because there's no money in it or what?

Didn't some guy crack the source code a few years ago opening it up to rampant piracy?

POWER OF THE CELL

>Please don't tell me "it's hard to make one and takes a lot of effort"
"It's hard to make one" is quite a fucking understatement.

Why can´t I play my PS3 games on the PS4?

You can
By being a good goy and pay for streaming

Does that justify 10 years of nothing? Fucking MAJOR breakthroughs in both hardware and software happened during the decade. But hey, nobody bothered with this.

Every 3d console emulator is shit. Sure they might of came out but in no way are try accurate

Don't worry fellow Sonybro, just buy the remastered edition for the PS4.

Don't forget to buy it again when the 4K remasters are released for the nu-PS4! :^)

Isnt rpcs3 making good progress?
youtube.com/watch?v=KNbmVR75Dws

Because no one cared enough to bother. If the PS3 had anything compelling to emulate, I'd bet there would be one.

Shows you how mediocre the PS3 was.

>All those ps+ games that I can´t play because my ps3 is 12GB
More than enough to hate sony.

>Does nobody really bother because there's no money in it or what?

nobody cares about a PS3 emulator because there are so few good exclusives to be played on it, namely Demon Souls, the rest is usually garbage or mediocre, but they're making good progress on it thanks to DirectX12, apparently

The architecture is different, they bypassed the hypervisor to run unsigned code and pkg.

PS4 is a closer match to your everyday pc.

Do you know anything about how emulators are created?

Same reason why there is no emulator for the original Xbox
There is hardly anything worth playing on the console so devs have less incentive to make one

Is this the "I don't understand how programming works but I'm entitled to my game piracy" starter pack?

Besides, there is a PS3 emulator that's coming along quite nicely.

"It's hard to make one" is the understatement of the fucking century. It's why we don't have original Xbox emulators either.

If its not hard why dont you do it.
Fucking dumbass

There are Xbox emulators, they're just not very good. The reason why we don't have a fully functional one is because:

1. There's nothing to learn from making an Xbox emulator, it literally uses the same architecture as PC and the same libraries as Windows games. This would actually make it easier to emulate but nobody seems to give a shit.

2. There are only a handful of exclusives, most of the games are Windows multiplats.

If console games are meade on PC then how come you can't play them on PC?

Learn to read dumbass.

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about when you say 'don't say it's hard is an excuse'

>nothing
why do I have to do your googling for you, user
Anyway, it's far from done, but it's also far from "nothing".

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-compiler

It's not an excuse because there's been 10 whole fucking years to do it, you can do anything in that time no matter how hard it is

And yes I know there's one WIP, but as of now it's useless and if that's the progress that has been made in 10 years since release, that's pathetic

You can, if you have the source code.

>I'm a retard and I have no idea what I'm talking about

Are you trolling? You fucking have to be.
rm -f yourself, faggot.

Just because someone CAN do it doesn't mean anyone has a reason to actually do it.

Programmers are human beings with their own motivations that may or may not want to work on projects and not everyone who is a programmer is instantly good enough to make a PS3 emulator.

If you want to understand why nobody has done it, start learning programming right now in order to make one yourself. You'll give up pretty quickly, not just because you're retarded but because it's pretty fucking hard and there's no incentive to do it.

Retard here, instead of creating programs to emulate the games why can't we just create an installer to play them directly on the PC? And with a launcher or file to configure the control mapping.

I thought it was established that the cell architect was absolute shit working with even with documentation. Now imagine trying to replicate that with little to no documentation.
Also this Fucking dumbass

If you're actually this retarded I don't know how I can manage to explain it to you in terms you'd understand.

I don't speak nerd

you had 10 years to scrap 100$ for used ps3 but all you do is whine on Sup Forums hoping someone will make emulator for you

that's pathetic

Just fucking buy a bigger HDD then.

That would be the same as having a PC with just enough space on HDD for OS and then nothing more and blaming Microsoft for it.

>my ps3 is 12GB
>Mfw I didn't fall for the Super Slim meme

>Please don't tell me "it's hard to make one and takes a lot of effort", the thing came out 10 years ago
If it is so easy then get to work.

OP being a faggot as usual.

I'd highfive you if I could

Little guy, If you want one so badly learn coding, and make one yourself. By rule of humanity nobody is going to work without a profit being involved. Go to school again if you aren't 12 and start learning

Not him, but I suspect you don't know why exactly we can't.

demons souls

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-compiler
>For example, a compiler that runs on a Windows 7 PC but generates code that runs on Android smartphone is a cross compiler.
I not sure how that sentence could possibly be made any clearer.

Buy a used ps3 if you want to play the games so badly.

how about you put a compiler that runs on a ps3 but generates code to run on a windows 7 PC

What good would that be without the source code?

That comment reminded me of this paper that I read several years ago. Of course this is about a much older system but LLVM enables a lot of cool stuff.

Sorry you're such a poor PCfag that spent all his money on PC hardware. A PS3 and it's games are incredibly cheap.

Like literally have you made any money since you built your pc?

Any at all?

Like value-fries at McDonald's any money at all?

...

PS3's are dirt cheap at this point, you just get one used and a PSN subscription and you'd have a gigantic library from that alone

then again there's only a handful of exclusives titles that haven't received a remaster / PC port at this point

>a PSN subscription and you'd have a gigantic library from that alone
No, you wouldn't.

Are you... Mentally retarded?
To be able to emulate the PS3 without having a PowerPC architecture computer is impossible, impossible and even if you have one, it'd still be impossible cause you'd have to emulate the graphics and RAM as well.
To simply emulate a console, you'd need a machine that's as powerful as the console you're trying to emulate and then some, and on top of that, a whole bunch of software trickery to make the games think they're running on the real deal.
To put things in perspective, the Cell is a six core core PowerPC CPU, it's easier to emulate a PS4 than it is to even try to emulate a PS3 for that reason alone- our computers are native to x86, just like the PS4 is.

Look up CPU architecture you nigger.

Sauce: I'm a CS major and architecture is my focus.

>all those people answering an obsolete question.

ps3 emulation exists and it's coming along very well. get bent, burn in hell, kys, op, or this shitposting.

Last time I checked you got like 3-4 full games each month, granted not all of them are AAA titles, but still.

The fact that this emulator is getting places at all is a marvel.

People seriously underestimate how complicated the ISA for modern CPUs and GPU architectures are.

It almost gets less than the vita. I haven't see anything worthwhile for ps3 for quite a while

Thanks for the only meaningful reply in a sea of irrelevant edgy "heh... do it urself kid" and "buy a used ps3 xD".

It's not an issue of money, but one of pride and principle
A consolefag wouldn't understand

Because the PS3 has a weird architecture that makes it much harder to emulate (especially since most PCs nowadays use the x86-x64 processor architecture [currently led by Intel] while all three consoles of last generation used PowerPC processors). Sony can get PS3 games running on PS4 through their streaming service because they have the documentation and understand exactly how the PS3 works, while the fans making the emulators have to go on guesswork and trial-and-error to get it working.

You're an idiot.
