DOOM Optimization

Why is DOOM so badly optimized on PC?
>B-but it runs great on my $650 980Ti at 1080p/60fps while looking identical to consoles!!

It can't even run at 900p/60fps and low on a GTX 950, which is better than consoles. Is Vulkan going to help or is min requirements bloat starting? For the first few years of a console, equivalent GPU hardware works great (Xbox 360 games ran on the X1800). Then the minimum became the 8800 GTX or higher.

Is the same thing happening now? Will the 970 and 290 bee the minimum for 1080p/30fps and low soon?

My 970 runs it at an average of 130 fps on maxed settings.

Who fucking cares nerd, just play it.

>Bethesda
There's your answer. Absolutely horrible development studio.

I'm playing it on low way below the recommended specs. I'd say its pretty optimized.

Runs fine for me.
@ 1440 and +120 FPS. Everything maxed out except for bullshit like DOF, Blur, etc..

More than likely true, but this is developed by id Software.

Please shitpost elsewhere

With what GPU and what settings?
Also CPU?

It runs mostly fine on my i5 6500 with 660 GTX. minor slowdown in places but it goes away after a reload.

interestingly, 660GTX "isn't supported hardware"

It needs more than 2gb vram and at least 4 cores. I have an i5 4440, but my 960 only has 2gb vram so at times it chugs and barely gets 32 fps. No matter what settings I tweak, even massive drops in certain areas. The PS4 runs the game better than the 960 2gb. Fix your game Bethesda/id

I thought master race was all about the greatest technology and highest end hardware? Upgrade your shit fag

>Have a 670 and a 3570
>Get pretty constant 60fps at 1080p
Seems well optimized to me.

All my lag is either due to overload or problems with the engine. Some rooms run bad no matter the setting, and a majority of my lag came from small encounters that obviously weren't taxing my system.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz
8 gigs of ram
AMD Radeon HD 7700

Everything on the lowest settings. Snap map holds a constant 60 but the single player jumps around between 60 down to ~30 or less depending on the map.

Defiantly not ideal but I beat the game on nightmare.

At 1080p I assume. What FPS and settings?

It must be related to the CPU because the GTX 670 runs it fine and has only 2GB.

who is owned by bethesda

Right, so less than 30fps in the campaign isn't great. This game runs at 900p/60fps on the Xbone somehow, which has basically the same GPU as you.

I guess it's optimized for how good it looks, but not compared to it's console performance.

I also run on an unsupported GPU: 580GTX, core i5 2500 and 8GB RAM

I get 60+FPS 90% of the time on Medium. When it drops it gets to 40 at the lowest

>GTX 950 is 'better than consoles'
>can't do 900p/60 low
You must be using the N64 as a reference point.

950 is shit tier

yeah but id software made the game and used their own-made tech you fucker

The problem with DOOMs framer are is all in the engine. It was optimized for a lot of cards and systems but not all of them.
Ps4 and Bone are fully optimized because they only have the one hardware to deal with. A majority of newer cards are optimized for DOOM and even if they're not it's still fully playable.
It runs really well even on hardware below the minimum requirement. Not perfect but inevitable performance patch 1 is assuredly on the way.

I get lag on the startup developer logos, which makes no sense since I can run a 12 demon encounter with explosions and maintain 60fps.

>>I get lag on the startup developer logos,
Are you using an nvidia card with outdated drivers?

There is a bug in some recent nvidia drivers that causes an issue on startup.

That image is retarded and I'm surprised how it got so popular.
>instead of opening a dialogue on a point of contention for certain individuals, just dismiss it with a shitty response

I wa going to buy this game. I don't know how it will run on an i5 4460 + 280x, but I'm still tempted.

Too bad we don't have demos anymore and denuvo is a thing.

$300 PS4 is the equivalent of an $800 PC, why would a budget shit play it?

>Too bad we don't have demos anymore

The MP betas were a solid engine test. SP has more shaders and shit so you'll get slightly worse performance, but at least you can know if it will boot at all

anyone w/ i5 4670k and 770 2g want to tell me your experience please?

Just look it up on youtube, it's really easy.

Fuck, I have 660 gtx... what do you mean it's not supported, the card is only 4 years old

> What are steam refunds?
> How do change graphics settings?
The post

GTX 670 is the minimum supported card.

it's a tumblr thing

Oh that makes sense since there's no such thing as free speech or open dialogue there. It's still baffling to see it posted here so frequently though.

Motherfucking pc gaming and being poor don't get along :(

>950
You deserve what you get.

"Minimum" requirements are bloated. They're roughly what it would take to play at Mid-High settings at a constant 40+ FPS

If you're willing to do Medium/Low you can use older cards. The game is a RAM hog though, 8GB is utterly required, and 16 strongly recommended

How many FPS am I going to get with a 7870?

0

hes right user sry =(

1440p, 60fps at high settings on my R9 290

I have 16gb RAM, and I run it on 800p wxga projector so having lower resolution helps a lot. But still, got to upgrade this year, maybe pick up one them 4k monitors to, they seem to get more and more affordable

>"Minimum" requirements are bloated. They're roughly what it would take to play at Mid-High settings at a constant 40+ FPS

That's because the game is a 60FPS target even on consoles. They probably figured nobody wants to play such a fast, input-heavy game on lower framerates and they are covering their bases

Should be able to run medium-high settings 1080p, 60fps.

get a better video card bub

Are you trying to say that holding companies cannot and do not perform executive meddling in the affairs of their subsidiaries?

Here's the video, fag.

youtube.com/watch?v=yl2v0socpZY

Don't go 4k unless you plan on getting two GPUs. Even the 1080 can't handle 4k reliably without gimping graphics to compensate.

I run the game with just about every setting set to low, and get around 30-60 FPS.

I attribute it to the retarded choice of a CPU I have though. Planning on getting an i5 6600K, though and seeing what Polaris has in store.

>GTX 950

Everybody laugh at the poorfag!

>dual core HT cpu

What did he expect?

Only shitty games like Arma3 do just as well on those cpus.

there were a few 4gb 670 sold in the end of the cycle

Which I'm fine with.
* I can buy 4k monitor now, and whatever games are less intensive I can enjoy immediately in 4k - like resident evil revelations 2 will probably run 4k even on max, and their AA implementation is garbage so it would do well to up resolution
* Changing card more often than monitor is probably OK too. I don't know for sure, but considering we can't even reliably hit 4k yet, it's unlikely I will need higher res monitor soon

>why doesn't my shit tier GPU let me run games perfectly?!

Look you either build a PC for your resolution or you buy a console. If you want to play games at 1080p you buy a 390 or 970. Every other lower level card exists for you to waste your money.

Except in this video the game is clearly cpu bottlenecked... You're retarded, kill yourself. Pls.

4K will not be worth it until HBM2 cards come out. Don't fall for the meme. Dual card setups are a headache.

didn't someone get doom 3 to run on an ancient piece of shit with a voodoo 2 chip? bethesda was a mistake.

>mostly fine

What does that even mean?

Probably odd dips in FPS in some sections.

I'm not going for dual cards. I'm saying even single 1080 will push 4k for a lot of games, except maybe fattest AAA hogs

I play at laptop-tier 1366x768 with a 550ti
Shitty card but because of the resolution I can still play modern games on relatively high settings. Overwatch runs at 50-60 on tweaked high settings.
Anybody with the same card or similar wanna let me know how the performance is for Doom?

Turn resolution scaling down to 85% or 75%, and you'll get 60 frames @1080p. Most of my settings are on medium, just stuff like motion blur/HDR bloom/reflections is low or off.

Stuff like windows or smoke still kills frames out right though.

1080 won't push 4K with 60fps unless you're turning down settings. If you're spending that much on a GPU why would you not want max settings? Just wait until HBM2 to jump to 4K.

When the demons captured the Doom Slayer and stripped him of his suit and weapons why didn't they just kill him instead of sealing him in a tomb? Why didn't that robot guy kill him at the end of the campaign he was again captured and helpless what do you mean you can't kill him he is a human and has been dying left and right throughout the game when you play as him

holy fucking shit m8. Core 2 quad Q6600.

Ma nigga.

>Why doesn't it run better on my 6 year old PC?!?

>When the demons captured the Doom Slayer and stripped him of his suit and weapons why didn't they just kill him instead of sealing him in a tomb?

It was some sort of magical trap that entombed him, not a mere ceiling falling. It sealed him as the demons were defeated

>Why didn't that robot guy kill him at the end of the campaign he was again captured and helpless what do you mean you can't kill him he is a human and has been dying left and right throughout the game when you play as him

Probably has use for you should another demon situation arise/thinks he can keep you under control. We Gman now

i3 6100
16GB RAM
GTX 960
I move it maxed out except that option that requieres a bazillion GB of RAM.

Well if the guys that busted you out of your tomb were able to get in there and get you back to mars and detain Doom Slayer to study him what stopped the demons from entering the tomb after he has been caught and killing him. Since he didn.t have his suit or weapons.

They couldn't risk opening it, the second they did he'd kill them all.

>mfw my 970 runs it at 1440p 60 FPS at all times
Git gud

It seemed like Doomguy was invulnerable while he was sealed. The demons probably didn't want to risk it

Also he was sealed by a caste of priest demons which died in the process. The remaining demons probably don't know how to reverse the process or don't even want to try it. Even though the UAC managed to through their argent tech

One audio log mentions the demons tried to defend the tomb but the UAC managed to take it anyway (presumably with regular-ass UAC soldiers), so regular demons aren't probably all that smart/organized to begin with. They also probably weren't counting on anyone else being able to travel to their dimension

But then how was he detained in the mars base after they saved him? I doubt that he would have agreed to that also why didn't the demons do the sealing thing again when he entered hell multiple times during the game since they probably wouldn't be able to rescue him again?

Eh, better than nothing.

Why is your computer shit?

Just adding to 's response. When Doomguy died he went back to hell and began his murder spree anew. Sealing was the only answer. He's one of the 40% (If that's still a thing since it was stated in D3 I think) of humans not affected by possession and for whatever reason isn't absorbed into hell like you see other lost souls in walls and shit in older games.

Doom 3 is non-canon.

i get smooth framerate most of the time. there are certain effects in rooms that make the framerate dip (smoke/volumetric fog is one of them i think) but otherwise its smooth.

settings are medium with some high (like textures and AF). have a few on low, like reflections/shadows/motion blue.

i have vsync on (not adaptive). it may be syncing to 30 and im just not noticing because i never get up to 60, but i havent bothered to check the framerate because its perfectly playable in heavy combat and it still looks pretty.

running it at 1366x768 fullscreen-windowed since thats what my default res is on this machine anyway. im sure that helps with performance.

You sure about that pham?

By that logic Skyrim is canon int he universe since you find a Nord helm.

You can also find the Artifact in another room.
Also, there's another reference to Doom 3.
The sound the Gauss canon makes after firing is the reload sound for the Doom 3 rocket launcher.

I am aware D3 is more or less, at the very least, not the Doomguy we follow. There's a chance it's one of the multitudes of dimensions but that's a side discussion with zero bearing on this one.

However, the fact that some people are readily possessed and others aren't is a consistent element of the franchise. I just listed the percentage stated in Doom 3 because I liked having something of a concrete sounding number to go with what I was saying.

Intel Core i5-4590 3.3 GHZ and an R9 390
what is the best settings for me?

The game is missing a New Game+ mode to play over and over, like Wolfenstein TNO where you can choose levels, or you can replay the campaign over and over.
Only being able to choose levels is not the same.

I would say maxed out, I play it like that with a GTX 960, but apparently there's performance issues on AMD GPUs.

A GeForce card.

>I would say maxed out, I play it like that with a GTX 960, but apparently there's performance issues on AMD GPUs.
I tried max and it goes 60 fps no problem until things start happening, I think there is an issue with amd cards because no other games I play go below 40 and this game drops to 15

> le sekrit club
This place is full normies and sjws. They see coming to the big bad Sup Forums as a zoo visit.

It's because they were using an i3 you cuck.

60+ on low-medium
Definitely need to get the latest drivers though, ran like asscheeks in indoor areas before.

Using i3, 4 gb of ram and 1 gb of gpu.

It runs and it runs good, if you can't run it on a computer better than my system you've got problems.

It's not just this game. If you kept watching system requirements through the years you would've seen that recently minimum requirements were inacquirate with worse hardware being able to run the games moderately.
There was a time when minimum literally only meant "runnable" (pre-2009 mostly). The game back then with minimum hardware would stutter and crap out.

Kek A semi custom mobile Apu can run this game on 1080p @60

Ok, it won't push 4k@60hz reliably for modern aaa titles with a bunch of effects on, but there is no telling if hbm2 will fix that. Bottom line it is a perpetual cycle of improvement, and depending on circumstances (for some lighter titles) I bet even 1070 will push 4k just fine so there is no reason to not buy the monitor. If not all titles use full UHD is OK, as long as some titles do

No point buying DOOM desu. That garbage is region locked.

If you actually watched the video, they clearly state it's because of the CPU, not the GPU.

I reckon Doom 3 is not Doomguy.

While Doom 3 was taking place on Mars, Doomguy was on Phobos in the original Doom

On shit settings, maybe.

I'd have bought a concole if I was a person that settled for less, faggot-kun.
