School mode? I have no idea I beat this game on PSP back in the day.

What you do in School Mode:
- collect stuff and use it to build other stuff for a reward
- do Free Time Events with everyone because no one dies
- and date them, too

There are still people who are just now watching Evangelion for the first time, and that came out 20 years ago. Even they can still be spoiled

It has some neat music and aesthetics but the trial gameplay is very mediocre. None of the bullet-themed trial mechanics are fun, and the semi-rhythm-game one is outright stupid.

probably not, I imagine that they'll want to keep that ending ambiguous but with that as a mere possibility. Probably for the best overall, honestly.

She's fine. Though I'll admit that DR/Zero did a better job of making me enjoy the character than the games themselves do.

It's a "killing game", yeah some of the shittiest characters do manage to survive to the end somehow but frankly I didn't go into this expecting to see the characters again after the end of the game anyway. Provided it's done well enough it doesn't bug me which is the actual problem because there some cases where it's done in a pretty shit manner all things considered.

Main characters aside, Kirigiri is pretty great. Fuyuhiko is just a plot device

Togami was worse than Yasuhiro. The latter was a waste of space, the former actively made things worse while contributing nothing for no reason other than "muh Togami name" and any characters who interact with him always act extra dumb in order to faciliate him ranting about something meaningless.

I liked Fuyuhiko's character development

I wanted Yasuhiro to die so badly. Shitter wasn't even important for any case, except for having his name for the sake of case 3.

But that makes things a little interesting: seeing the pompous jerks like Togami and selfish assholes like Kazuichi survive.

Yasuhiro could be removed and pretty much nothing about the game would change, whereas Togami could be removed and the game would be significantly better.

So yeah, Togami is worse. This isn't me praising Yasuhiro on any particular level.

Fuck Kazuichi, if it wasn't for Teru shit he would be the worst character in DR2. And it doesn't, it makes the plot to be longer than it should. Instead of making even more good characters, they just fill it with shit.

You know, it'd be interesting if a case revolved around an asshole like Togami that was so much of an asshole that basically everybody wanted to kill him.

Pretty much everybody has motive. And pretty much everybody has opportunity. And pretty much everybody potentially has reason to lie. For added fun, you could have had several people planning the murder at the same time, maybe even crossing paths at some point. Heaven or hell, let's rock.

Togami being an asshat is fine
Having to follow him around for so much of the game while he simultaneously contributes nothing, having him railroad other characters (Makoto, Toko) into being shit, and actively being the source of making obvious scenarios in the trial more obtuse for no reason but to lengthen them is what makes him bad.

She is only 1 step above Yasuhiro. She was fucking bad. The only good thing about her was her body

A decent collection of whodunnit mysteries buried below several feet of crappy "self aware" writing, terrible dialogue and sort of interesting trial mechanics obfuscated by layers of gimmicks.

Soundtrack is good. Art style feels a bit tryhard in its craziness, and also all the fancy "opening a storybook" animations that play every fucking time you enter a room get old immediately.

Sonia's pretty solid as far as survivors I think. Helps at times, fucking panics at other times, entertaining enough as a character, and the only times where she irrationally 'gets in the way' was when an execution was already decided on. Nothing amazing but I can't really consider her bad in anyway either to be honest.

I can't stand Makoto either, it sorta bugs me that I can't even. He's just way too much of a doormat, I don't find it that appealing or entertaining a trait to couple with the "endless optimism/hope" thing he's supposed to embody.

At the end of the game I thinking that Ishimaru should've been the Ultimate Hope instead.

I could understand Makoto. Together with all these handpicked ultimates who were seen as amazing, and there Makoto is, a winner of a lottery. Nothing more special than luck.

You know that wouldn't be what he would have wanted, user. Fixating on what isn't in favor of what is is what did him in in the first place.

If you really want to make him alive in your life, try picking up something programming-related! Even if it's something really simple like RPG Maker, it's the thought that counts. Create something that you can find something in, be it something that helps you in some way or something that helps somebody else, that's what Chihiro is all about.

That would make him real within you a lot more than a tulpa would.

Honestly Makato wields more than that: He's the Ultimate Hope not only because he fills hope to everyone around him, but how he got into a school proves even a average student like him can get to a school full of ultimates.

His luck in that lottery would give people hope.

With Makoto, it's dropped pretty quickly in favor of having unending optimism in everyone all the time whilst being a doormat. Perhaps it's bias on my part but I really couldn't enjoy playing through the game with this sorta character as the protagonist.

I'm not sure I buy that. Makoto's example would just tell me that there really is no way that I could compare to the Ultimates, and the only way I could even sniff the same air as they do is through complete bullshit luck.

There is an aspect of "well he's the main character so a lot of these other characters have to like him for this scenario to work" that didn't seem to quite match up with Makoto's core personality early on in the game, I suppose. Despite Ishimaru holding the morning meetings and Togami always screaming offscreen about how great his family name was, Makoto was pretty much the de facto leader of the group but it took a while for that to even seem convincing perhaps.

But that's the crux of the very next murder - Ishimaru's desire to see and talk to Mondo even though he was gone was what caused the "Ishiwada" situation and led to Yamada's death - somebody who had an unhealthy obsession with Alter Ego, by the way.

That execution was horrible. It just went on so long and dared to actually give me room to hope things might turn out well even though I damn well know it's not going to. Terrible.

That, and it's actually an interesting change of pace from the main games, the TPS gameplay would work a lot better on PC, and it does a great job of doing the main character pair a lot better than the first two games did.

I went through something similar once, so I think I understand. Wishing to see him and nothing else can't go anywhere good, for a while I was in a position like this too and it really messed me up. Since that's not possible, all you can do is live and be strong for him!
