How does the gameplay match up to real Dynasty Warriors games?

While I really enjoyed the older games (Samurai Warriors 1 and Warriors Orochi 1 in particular), the franchise took a nosedive once they started making the enemies super non-aggressive to compensate for the bloat that came with seventh generation consoles.

So is it like the older games where enemies actually do shit or is it bullshit like Neptunia U where most enemies do literally nothing but stand around and wait to die?

Most enemies are do shit, but some like the fucking giant sheep enemies are annoying. The bosses can either be easy or hard depending on you are and who you are fighting. As to compare the Dynasty Warriors games, I only played Dynasty Warriors 7 Empires and I can just say it's faster and in my opinion better. I didn't like how moving and attacking feels sluggish. However Senran Kagura SV and EV feels too simple.
