Most people still view computers as magic boxes from another dimension. They have no understanding at all of how they work and are intimidated by that. On top of that most people like simple, quick, easy entertainment and consoles provide that in droves.

There's not much of a reason to build and maintain a solid gaming PC when they just play Call of Duty and the occasional EA/Ubisoft title.

Same goes for weebs and fighting game players.

Yet almost every console owner has a prebuilt PC, or even a mac. For the same money they could build a gaming PC but lack the knowledge and desire to do so.

PC is a desert when it comes to new releases and I don't like to play the typical time-killers like CS:GO/DOTA2/TF2/MMOs/etc nor did I ever (or will I ever) buy EarlyAccess games or jump the ship with kickstarted projects.

The only two i've got this year were Dragon's Dogma and XCOM2. There are plenty of strategy games about to come out but honestly they are not something I would spend money to play at launch, especially since most of them are known to have a lot of issues at release (like totalwar)

PS4 has been keeping me busy every single month of this year with new releases that I can't play on PC.

In the end they complement each other. If I didn't own a good PC I wouldn't have enjoyed Dragon'sDogma at glorious 3K 60fps with no black bars, and if I didn't own a PS4 I would probably be playing some shit that isn't even fun but kills time like some mobas or CS:GO's second hand weapon market.
