How important is wavedashing in the 2016 SSBM metagame?

Which characters work best without it?

its useful, but i guess you won't get much use out of it as peach or jigglypuff since they have pretty bad wd.

Peach looks interesting, I've always overlooked her because I'm not homosexual. Do you need really good reaction times or fast hands for any of her tech? What sort of skill do you need to get good with peach?

It's still extremely useful with the right character.

You can get by with characters like Jigglypuff and Peach since I think they have some of the worst wavedash lengths in the game and are still very viable characters.

I would still recommend have to wavedash at an efficient level and learn how to incorporate it into a character's playstyle if you decide to main either one of those characters. I would say it's the first Melee all-around advance technique you should master.

guys i've only really started picking up melee competitively and i feel like I'm doing well with l-canceling and wavedashing while i practice but when i play in a local or even in friendlies i choke and airdodge around like a retard. i have trouble implementing the shit im learning

ive been playing this game for over 10 years and i still get nerves and fuck up stuff on the reg in tournament
you have to find what works for you, be it music or handwarmers or something. don't try to to everything exactly the same as that one time you beat that one guy though, because it won't be the same and you'll take a mental blow when things dont go as expected
basically expect anything and expect to make a mistake, there is no perfect game of melee

using both triggers makes wavedash OoS super easy

I'm not an expert, but I think the only very technical thing to learn is float canceling, lets you throw out aerials really fast.

How do you wavedash out of shield without using both triggers?

Not that guy, but what you do is press down on the trigger until you hit the "click". When you want to wavedash out of shield, you push past the click to input L again.

I've got all tech down solid on my mains (spacies), but learning to weave it into gameplay has been my grind for the past few weeks. Shi e out of shield is my current obstacle, I always bair or nair out of shirld when a shine would probably be better

Working on rest tech-chases, holy fuck it's so hard. Jiggs is easily the hardest character to learn from a neutral game standpoint.

don't worry about a secondary yet, just focus on playing Marth

It's something you can apply to any character.

Characters that spend most of the time in the air, I guess. It's one of the simplest things to learn, though, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it.

There's a fucking youtube video on everything in the game. It's just a matter of wasting a bunch of time grinding it out and going to tournaments. It's more than doable.

I love melee and played the shit out of it but this is so true.

The no items, final destination, fox only meme spawned from people trying to turn a game that was never meant to be a competitive fighter into one. The latest smash was the first one where they made any attempt to cater to the competitive scene with the omega stages and speed the gameplay back up a little bit.

With falco it's super important. L-cancelling may be the most important, but if you can't Waveland, you'll be full hopping onto platforms and wasting a good half second

As a gigantic motherfag you simply don't. Ness is below trash, I would even argue he is an incompleted character they never really tested. Ness is decent in 64 and pretty good in smash 4, really sakurai hasn't been too kind to mother fans unfortunately.
