I only played Jagged Alliance 2 for like an hour before I felt too threatened and quit, but it probably wouldn't be that hard if I stuck with it. Most of these games are incredibly dated, XCOM, Frozen Synapse and Door Kickers are the only ones I can think of in modern gaming.
uhhhh, you're not OP
Banner Saga is also an ongoing tactics series if you're interested.
What about some classics?

Fallout Tactics is a good tactics game, but takes a steaming dump on the Fallout canon. Not as hard as 3 or 4's cancer laden fecal missile, though.
How do I into HoMM3?
Is Advance Wars the best that Tactics have to offer?
Also, which is better: 2 or Days of Ruin?

fire emblem is good stuff. Good variety throughout the series, some are super hard (thracia) while others are more lenient (sacred stones). Keeps stuff fresh and fun. FFT and Tactics Ogre SNES were pretty good, need to play TO's remake one of these days. SFI and II are classics, X-Com's cool as well.
I'm more into SRPGs and its sad to see so few nowadays. Fire Emblem Fates Conquest was cool, though. Not a fan of the other two routes but they're still aight.
I like FFT, Fire Emblem, Shining Force 1&2, and XCOM better than advance wars personally
Not sure how 'good' it'd be considered, but Ring Of Red was fun as hell, but no-one seemed to know it exists.
JA2 and SS were my favorites

28 Bytes, before you lads get too far down the rabbit hole.
some Sup Forums plugins remember your name sometimes
Holy fuck i forgot advance wars. Love those games
Depends on preference. AW2 has more COs but DoR has better balance.
Tactics Ogre is my favourite but not going to lie it's mainly for the storyline and its branching
An underrated one is Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time - it starts of quite generic and the artstyle puts a lot of people off but it has a really good battle system and a lot of mission variety and cool characters/branching plot and basically everything it needs to be really good.
This is a very enjoyable SRPG
Jagged Alliance 2 with the community patch
No game can beat that mine gold of tactics

>Fallout Tactics is a good tactics game
It's alright. I'd say its better than average, but only because there was such a glut of Eastern European tactical shovelware in the early 00s.
You can get some good gameplay out of Fallout Tactics, but you have to make it happen. In real time, for example, you're rewarded for decoys and flanking maneuvers, stealth ambushes, and even melee stunlocks, but if you get lazy and just get into one long-distance shootout after another, the game doesn't really punish you for it.
Tell me anons, is 7.62 High Calibre any good?
Brown-nose destroys everything though.
Adavance wars is actually an strategy game, best tactics game is problably XCOM, for weeb style games I would say Tactics ogre.
yes, if you can deal with a buggy game put together by drunk slavs.
Myth 2 is a superb fantasy themed real time tacticsl game, it is one of the best single player RTTs game out there.
They sould have choosen RT or TB and stuck with it, making an hybrid game was a major mistake, a Fallout tactics game that played like Men of war would be GOTY.
