who has say that windows is getting worse and worse?
There's absolutely no need to switch to Win10, and there's nothing wrong with 7.
It will always be more 'viable' than consoles.
Microsoft is forcing people from 7 to 10
Nice grammar, dipshit.
Windows 8 was obviously controversial, and Windows 10 is obviously even more controversial, so don't act like nobody thinks Windows is getting worse.
DX12 disagrees with you.

How much longer will console gaming be viable?
Apart from handhelds and retro consoles I just use Linux. Couldn't be happier with the amount of games we got in such a short time.
...
I'm still doing fine on 7
If you're too stupid to disable updates then you should just buy a console, you're the target audience.
And I disagree with DX12. Call me when there's a DX12-exclusive worth playing.
I think it's likely that PC game developers not paid by Microsoft will continue to strive for backwards compatibility whenever possible, in the interest of targeting the largest audience. Even developers who want to use DX12 don't have to make their game DX12-exclusive. I've played several games in which DX10 or DX11 features are optional. (I think Crysis 2 was one of them, but I could be wrong.)
Linux works fine for a decent number of games, it's only going to get better.
Until then, windows 7. Because who gives a fuck about dx12.
>DX12
How many games use it? 1? 2?
I was a skeptic about windows 8 but I honestly like it now that I am used to it. It was pretty shit at first though.
I am quite paranoid about windows 10 and its spying bullshit. I am going to wait awhile before I "upgrade"
Say what you want about Valve, but it's good that they've been trying to push Linux as a game platform.
The only problem is that they aren't pushing hard enough.
>he thinks windows 8 isn't full of spying bullshit
Aside from the odd complaint about
>muh privacy
most people don't have an issue with Win10.
PC gaming isn't going anywhere.
>he can't remove updates
very viable
windows still functions "good enough" for 90% of the other computer users that don't play vidya
How about dual boot. Use windows for gaming and linux for everything else. I think this is what I will end up doing.
More or less what I'm doing. I've got 7 on one hard drive, Arch on the other and just swap SATA cables when I want to switch.
Throw Linux on an old laptop because it'll be the last bastion of corporate mediums as operating systems
>PC gaming isn't going anywhere.
I wish it would go somewhere, like to Linux.
>forced ads in the OS
>literal shit start menu
Fuck off hipster
I will, if you can explain why someone who isn't a paid Microsoft shill would react to my post in the way that you did.
>forcing people
>Not idiots too stupid to turn off auto update
there are plenty of people who are to retarded to use Linux. Some people are so bad off they have to use Macs because windows is too much for them.
Linux is as easy to use as Windows. Probably easier, even.
Literally everyone.
there is some program to remove all that get windows 10 shit. So you don't even have to turn off updates if you want them on.
If only the Linux community would try to deal with the fact that Linux is more difficult and more intimidating to newcomers, instead of taking pride in it.
Linux is fucking ghetto lmao.
>majority of embedded devices including phones, majority of internet servers, 99 fucking percent of supercomputers
>hipster
there's a reason microsoft entered the console market: because dumb consumer shit was the only thing left to them
Windows has always been spying on you and sending information. We've known about NSA backdoors that go as far back as 3.0.
If you really care that much, then you shouldn't be using Windows.
Oh no I can't play the new tomb raider what a horrible situation
You're the user, dumbass.
That 1 user is you, silly.
How is linux hipster?
Shit like Ubuntu is pretty fucking easy.
It's literally just baby duck syndrome, it's different therefore it's hard.
>Being this retarded
>there are plenty of people who are to retarded to use Linux
Nowadays, you could slap Ubuntu of Mint on anyone's computer and they should be fine.
>Windows 10 popups constantly reminding me about the free upgrade to Windows 10
>Last popup had a box automatically checked for "apply update on restart"
>First time it's been there, almost didn't notice
I'm scared
From what I hear ubuntu is pretty easy but its been 6 years since I've played with it.
I know it has a GUI package manager, so it should be pretty easy.
>forced ads in the OS
Where? Consoles have ads and you can't even turn them off.
>literal shit start menu
That you can change at will.
Yep, Never10. It's not even a program, just a bunch of commands to turn off the update.
>How is linux hipster?
It isn't. Operating system hipsters are all using macs and ipads. Fortunately we only have to deal with them when we go to a coffee shop.
Not true. It's easy to install stuff with a graphical package manager but for anything other than that you need to be somewhat familiar with how dependencies work to even get stuff to run.
Meanwhile in Windows you can just use a self-extracting installer most of the time.
t. former linux user
Even then, I've had ZERO problems with 10. Fuckheads just jump on the Win10 hate wagon because they just want something to hate.
I have turned off auto updates completely on Win10. Now I just get a notification when there's an update and the option to even fucking install it. If I don't want it installed, I close the window and don't get a notification about it again until there's another update available, and even then, it's just a scanner definition update most of the time. Granted, it took about 30 minutes of doing it, but it can be done.
On top of that, I've disabled OneDrive by simply not logging in, then disabling it from starting when Windows starts. That took all of 15 seconds.
The only problem I've had with Win10 was that explorer.exe would crash most of the time when I go into Windows Explorer which has since been fixed for about two months.
>what is .deb
>what are PPAs
>what is AUR
>what is SuSEs one-click package thingy
I recently switched to arch, but I think I could argue that it is easier than windows (For people who don't know what they're doing).
Usually if I don't have a dependency package, it will just ask me if I want to install it.
Windows I just get errors about a missing .DLL or how I need to install .net framework without any links showing me where to download it.
Of course, since we're all used to windows we know what to do, but I'm really liking pacman/package managers in general.
there's money to be made on PC
as long as there's people willing to buy, there will be people willing to sell. If Windows ceased to exist, someone would take its place
if we need to completely switch to a new OS that doesn't change much, we just wouldn't have native backwards compatibility and would instead need to rely on WINE for old games
it's not like there's a single console out there that plays every generation of games.
>I don't have any problems with Windows 10!
>I just have to go around and do all this shit to make sure Microsoft doesn't fuck my asshole.
I fucking hate people like you. I don't care if you want to suck on Microsoft's corporate cock, but don't act like you're better than everyone else because you clicked a few buttons. You're still sucking cock.
How long has it been since you used Linux? Package managers handle dependencies automatically. The only issue someone could run into is if they're manually installing something from a tarball or whatever, but most software of interest is available in some repository. Honestly the most technical thing someone would need to know is how to add a repository, but that's really easy to look up.
Someone post the goddamn pic of the indian guy shitting win10 people need to know.
How is Arch? I've been using Crunchbang for the longest time.
Me too user, me too.
And i never used linux, but im fucking tired of microsoft's shit. But i just cant change to linux if my programs wont work there.
If you can get past installing it, pretty good. Last time I used linux was Ubuntu in 2010.
I'm really enjoying it and no issues so far aside from my own mistakes, running XFCE4.
Chill, dude. That user wasn't claiming to be better than everyone else. He just recounted his experience with Windows 10 and says it doesn't cause him to hate Microsoft. 45 minutes of maintenance is pretty minor. I spend hours and hours tinkering with mods, what's less than 1 hour to configure my OS?
>he didn't reply
kek
I have no fucking idea what those are user. And that is why no one besides you and a few other pc nerds use it.
is there a single thing a normal install of windows 7/8/10 can do that a virtual machine of windows 7/8/10 can't do?
>don't act like you're better than everyone else
I never said I was, cock monger, you did. And I hate shittards like you who think you know everyone because they updated. "HURR DURR YOU SUCK M$ COCK" This is the first time I've actually updated from one OS to the other when it was available instead of waiting and those were the problems I've had, which by no means is that big of a deal compared to shit that Vista or 7 went through on launch. If you don't fucking like it, just move to another fucking OS that doesn't fucking NSA spy your ass and stay the fuck away from Microsoft instead of being a self entitled little child when you most likely didn't even BUY the fucking OS to begin with.
It's possible to completely disable the spying on Win10. After you do that the OS doesn't have any real drawbacks compared to 7.
Not today, but in a few years people sticking to Win7 will be seen the same as those sticking to XP. Win7 just won't be viable for gaming in some time.
But I'd really prefer if gaming moved to Linux. Compared to Windows it's just better, except people don't make software for it. Most desktop environments are very intuitive and user friendly, just as much as Windows, a given piece of hardware is probably supported, and it has a decent library of games at this point (but obviously very little big-name stuff). And it doesn't come with tons of bloatware and NSA bullshit.
>former Linux user
>has no idea how to install packages not in the repos
Using a live CD for two minutes does not make you a Linux user.
VMs run slower, always.
How did you get rid of the ads? That is the worse for me.
Unfortunately, that's one thing I never had to deal with because when I upgraded I got upgraded to Pro which didn't deal with those. At least, as far as I know they don't exist on Pro. Can't really be of help on that part.
Probably not. Nowadays you can use PCI passthrough or whatever it is so there's barely any difference.
>pirated 7 and got 10 for free
Feels good
>Microsoft spies on me but hey, it doesn't interfere with my computer usage, so what's the big deal?
You're on the internet. Grats, you're being spied on. If you want to actually not be found/spied on you wouldn't even have a phone.
But Microsoft spies on your non-internet activities too, even for things that don't connect to the internet at all on their own
W10 is so bad I'm going to update from 7 to 8.1 because 10 makes 8.1 look good, I'm even hyped for the charms.
It's shitty, but this part is most likely true. As soon as I find a way to prevent this the better, and I doubt simply unplugging my ethernet cable is going to do the trick.
Currently consoles are getting worse faster than windows is, but its clear that both sides are trying.
Don't do it
I'm "downgrading" from 8.1 to 7 when I get my paycheck next week, 8.1 is literally worse than the os I'm running on my smartphone
>As soon as I find a way to prevent this the better
pastebin.com
Yeeaaaah, 8.1 is... "special." It's not -bad-, but it's not -good-.
...I like what I see.
>what is vulkan
Why should I even bother with W10 with all the controversy surrounding it, especially when W7 j u s t w o r k s ?
What have you guys not liked about it?
So use a version of Windows that does play games, you buffoon.
That reminds me, I'm setting up a new 32-bit XP virtual machine today. Can't wait to easily play good games while using a real OS (not Windows) for not-games.
I don't know, microsoft employee
(You) tell me
And why wouldn't you move to Windows 10 for gaming? People were saying shit about Vista from XP but had to upgrade in the end for DirectX.
If you're machine is for gaming, it doesn't matter. Consoles collect a lot of information about the user too. Get a laptop for normal workstation stuff.
It won't ever. Microsoft have DirectX and games that are cross compatible with Xbox One. It's easier to develop on Windows and better graphics card support.
That's fucking retarded.
From my experience with it, games just ran like shit on it. Some games like FFXIV ended up getting a significant drop in framerate by about 15-20fps, some ran a little better by about 5fps. After goofing around, the start screen really isn't that bad. I just simply used it as a place to store my icons to keep my desktop clean. But, at the same time, when I wanted to look for a program through the list similar to that of the "Programs" button on the start menu in 7, it was a pain in the ass to navigate through because that portion of the OS was meant to be navigated with a touch screen since 8 was made for phones/tablets.
Stop putting recommended updates as non-optional.
>No other PC operating system being able to play most games
If Windows keeps getting worse, we'll just see more games on Linux. Which is great, because Linux is better than Windows anyways.
>drop in framerate by about 15-20fps
Now this is bad shit
>it was a pain in the ass to navigate through because that portion of the OS was meant to be navigated with a touch screen since 8 was made for phones/tablets.
Uh huh, can't you move arround with the arrows or the navigation keys?
Not all distros are Arch or Gentoo, kek.
Yep. Not only does it have Synaptic, but has an app store. On top of that, there's an alternate front end for the app store if the original one doesn't float your boat.
Pacman is IMO, the best package manager out there, and Arch has the best documentation of any distro (Even better than Ubuntu).
That being said, having Xorg break occasionally is not fun, and the community is really unhelpful. If you're a crunchbang user, you'll be fine, but it's good to know what you're getting into.
Yes, but that's kind of what made it a pain in the ass for me. Personally, I'm a fan of scrolling through with the mouse wheel but had problems with it. It's been a while since I've used 8.1 but I just remember it feeling... off.
I already use the nav keys a lot so that is aplus for me.
> just swap SATA cables when I want to switch.
Haha, you fucking wot m8. This is what boot loader software is fucking for!
