Phantom Brave > Disgaea

>better music
>more strategic gameplay
>a much more personal and touching storyline
Tell me again why Disgaea got popular but Phantom Brave didn't. Its better in almost every way.

Etna.

And yet she's not even the main character of her own game.

Came out first
Fans like the wacky story more
Main character is the lord of the underworld, main character of PB is a sobbing little girl
And as for music, well, that's debatable.

The more you can't get something, more you want it.

>better music
This goes down to personal taste. Personally I find more memorable pieces in Disgaea than in PB

>more strategic gameplay
I'm not sure about this, it only felts different, not better. Soul nomad was the pone for me that really did push the strategy aspect forward.

>a much more personal and touching storyline
Everybody shitting on Marona for half the game wasn't really that much touching. I do give you the personal aspect though. Ash and marona interactions were really cute and felt special.

>sobbing little girl
A sobbing little girl who tries to do her best to make others happy. She's more believable and endearing and acts more like what I'd expect of such a young girl. Etna's a bit of an asshole, albeit a fun one. Sure, she's a demon so it makes sense, but she's not as relatable.

How does it feel to have objectively bad taste?

Disgaea grills > PB grills

pic related

But hot girls doesn't make a game

Is pic related a Disgaea game?

>Idea Factory/Compile Heart
I doubt it

No but it is made by the same team.

Is the name what makes a Disgaea game?
Not everything else?

fire emblem is better than both

When are people gonna post the hot springs scenes??? I mean fuckkkkkkkkkk

>literally an idea factory/compile heart watermark in the image
>asks if it's a disgaea game

>The name of the publisher is more important than the names of the humans who made the game

>thinking another company can just use another companies IP

You know that url could've been much shorter right?

Disgaea came first.

I WANT TO HAVE A HOT SPRING FUN WITH USALIA!

>Phantom Brave
>summon Ash
>send him to the boss to use Rising Dragon
>This of course kills the boss
>One shot whatever enemies he can before his phantom time ends

The real battle didn't start 'till Ash desummoned and you had to rely on your b team.

> more strategic gameplay

What did everyone think to phantom Brave's 'ring system'?

I thought it was an interesting idea but it says a lot they immediately went back to having a grid next game.

I guess grids just simply certain based combat more.

>all units that participate in battle gain exp even if they didn't kill anything themselves
That alone makes it better than Disgaea 1

The delicious brown version of the MC was better.

It was exploitable. That's all.

The gridless system is GOAT.

My one problem with PB's battle system was the slippery terrain bullshit. It was a great idea, but the AI was too shitty and you would end up destroying everyone in those maps because the enemies would fuck up every time and lose their turns.

Hmm... Actually yeah I did cause a few AI bugs.

I never really thought of it that way. To be brutally honest I assumed the fan base was two autistic to comprehend circles and a demanded they go back to squares.

I liked that this game had a crap ton of attack moves you can customize.

There was even a spirit bomb.

Strangely enough, PB suffers from the exact same problem Disgaea does: it relies too much on dumbshit damage formulas and stats that make any and all strategy too easy to exploit. Like said, Ash was just too damn strong. There were a shit-ton of units/classes to pick from, but some were clearly superior to others. The game had some great ideas and a lot of strategic value, but really lacked the balance needed to make any of those mechanics interesting.

I guess Disgaea gets away with it more because it lacks the cumbersome mechanics, and pretty much prides itself on being a "Grind until you can one-shot Mega-Bosses" one-trick pony. Well, that and the juvenile humor.

> Tell me again why Disgaea got popular but Phantom Brave didn't.

Because ps2 had a drought of sjrpgs at the time when Disgaea came out so they all gave Disgaea a really high score out of nostalgic for FFT. And gaming journalists weren't so corrupted by shitty hipsters yet.

But when Phantom Brave came out, they got shitty hipsters that never played a rpg in their lives to review it and everyone followed suit with similar reviews because they're all in the same gamingjournalistspro group and tell each other what to rate shit.

Doesn't matter. People are acknowledging Yooka-Laylee as Banjo Threeie.

> And gaming journalists weren't so corrupted by shitty hipsters yet.
They've always been """"corrupt"""

>Tell me again why Disgaea got popular but Phantom Brave didn't. Its better in almost every way.
The PS2 version was incomplete. They eventually had to release the completed version on PSP. This was a time when people still had faith in NISA, but it was obvious there were several problems with the game.

Daughterfu fans ruined what little was left. The entire community became as bad as bronies, so Disgaea fans stopped playing the game. Makai Kingdom was superior.
