You go replay a childhood game

>you go replay a childhood game
>it's not as fun as you remember
>the controls aren't very good
>the story is paper thin or just bad outright

whats her name, Sup Forums?

Silent Hill

mario 64

Turok

every game that has the word "dark" in the title but not "soul" in the title

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl

The atmosphere holds up but the gunplay is pretty boring to me now. And the RPG elements are paper thin.

any game not named overwatch

Darkstalkers (3) is still one of the best fighting games of all time

Mario 64
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 2

This. I remember thinking it was so damn scary and deep when it came out, then replayed it a year ago and it just felt clunky and generally boring.

Sonic Adventure

Sorry OP. My favorite games from back in the day pretty much all hold up really well.

Drakengard

god the controls are shit
i poured hundreds of hours into that game in middle school

Rayman 2

Care to name some?

undertale

Empire total war

I still go back and play AOM and advance wars and love them

Bubsy. Like it wasn't the best game as a child, but fuck me i had low standards

Final Fantasy VII

GTA 3

Medal of honor rising sun

>And the RPG elements are paper thin.
That is because there are none. The game never even fucking pretended to be an RPG, that is literally a meme invented by idiots around here because calling something an "RPG" used to make people think it's somehow more profound.

Deus Ex

I love and hate Sonic Adventures 1 and 2 so much.

The first Tony Hawk. It was the shit when I first played it, but I went back and it was just shit.

2 holds up substantially better, and 4 is just as good as ever (never played 3). But 1 was garbage.

I just listen to the soundtrack when I'm feeling nostalgic for it now.

Donkey Kong 64. The last boss fight + the soundtrack were still awesome though

I will never understand why Deus Ex had such bad controls. That game needs a remaster so fucking badly. Ion Storm came out of Quake and Doom, some of the best FPS ever, to produce a game that feels like someone continually fucked their life up by making bad decisions.

Gex: Enter the Gecko

Seriously I remember loving this game what the fuck happened. I tried it recently on an emulator and I had absolutely 0 shitting idea what the shit is going on. It's not a case of 'the story is shallow' THERE DOESN'T EVEN SEEM TO BE A STORY

On the upside Crash 1 is still good, but I lost my progress after beating that series of sky bridge levels so now I have to restart. Maybe I will

I don't know.

FF4 still holds up.

>horrible controls even for the time
>horrible graphics even for the time
>horrible shooting even for the time
>horrible sound quality even for the time
>horrible animations even for the time
>fucking abysmal stealth even for the time
>the story is pretty good though
10/10 BEST GAME EVER

People have branded it an FPSRPG since it came out, it's not just on here. But you have a point.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

Pros:
>ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND!
>Chao garden
Cons:
>Everything else
Playthrough ruining con:
>FIND THE MASTER EMMEROW

Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3.

Deus ex:hr

Sometimes a game, or a thing, is more than the sum of it's parts.
>Total War series is a very bad RTS, with bad AI
>Also bad Grand Strategy elements
But the game series is fucking god tier.
Deus Ex is one of gaming's treasures, despite it being made of garbage parts.
America is a country founded on genocide and slavery, and now it's one of the best nations to live in, with one of the most transparent and least corrupt governments. (Compared to the rest of the world.) It has a population of fat dumbasses, but it still has a huge amount of the world's wealth.
Worth more than the sum of it's parts.

Sly Cooper

Warcraft series

Donkey Kong 64

It's absolutely atrocious. The fog is worse than Turok and that's with an expansion pack. Whatever charm Rare had put into other games is absent, it feels unfinished.

>play your favourite childhood game
>it's as good as you remembered and you discover even more in-depth mechanics and secrets

>tfw you notice over 80% of the bananas after world 4 is just minigame barrels
It felt lazy as shit

what is tales of symphonia?

Duke Nukem 3D

Crash Bandicoot 2

Medievil, Nightmare Creatures, and Rainbow Six

Alice and the Rare Replay games

I'm remember telling my brother that GTA:SA had the best story I've ever seen in video game

>Mario Sunshine
Still as fun for completely different reasons. Less the exploration, more the cheesing platform challenges as fast as possible

>Desciples 1 & 2

I loved it as a kid but it's way too fucking easy and repetetive for me now.

Fuck outta here

I replayed SH1 only recently and it was great. Story and plot is interesting even if the characters don't really hold up.

I loved the game but fuck those guys from Grove St trying to drag me down

I haven't played it but I've heard good things about darksiders 1.

Is it worth playing friends?

It borrows a bit from Zelda and God of War and it's pretty okay.

Not amazing, but okay.
If you do play it, play it on Hard.

Kingdom hearts I

I've got it backlogged, I'll probs send it back a bit. I played the demo and it felt like a 6/10 zelda clone. I'll still play it but not super keen

A friend of mine says it's one of his fave games and insists that I play it now, am I going to be disappointed?

Nope, Tales of Symphonia is still good and fun

Secret of Mana 2

Game is still good but I would like punch the retards that did the German translation.
I'm sure it isn't the deepest most serious story out there anyway but they made a fucking kindergarden out of it, 4kidz style.

Parasite Eve 2
meh

I don't have this problem, OP.

Step it up.

I played KH1 this year and I wasn't disappointed

>remembers my favorite GameCube game
>finds dusty GameCube
>plays Chibi robo
>still fun as hell

Donkey Kong 64

Goldeneye

Kotor 1

Too many plotholes

Such as what. I dont remember plot holes

I played it again last year and it has aged like wine. What are you saying, man.

Prehistoric

Red Alert

NFS Carbon. I didn't remember it being that short and it's such a step back from Most Wanted.

warcraft 3
>remember illidan being a badass demon hunter
>actually just a retard that fucks up everything he does
>remember arthas being a paladin who slowly turns evil
>he turns into a death knight in like 2 or 3 missions

Loved that game as a kid, thanks for giving me the name

>Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 2

wut, that game is still great

Golden Eye N64

Digimon World 3

Turned out it was backtracking the game

Original SSX

>he turns into a death knight in like 2 or 3 missions
It's at the end of a whole campaign

arthas is a paladin for maybe the combined time of an hour or two

Maybe on a speedrun

Pic related.
Early 2000's Jackassvibe doesn't hold time at all.
Used to play shit out of this title but tried to start it again and got bored out of my mind.

THPS 4 is way better game and more fun to play even to this day

>try playing goldeneye on the 64
>these fucking controls
>that fucking controller

how did I do it?

The N64 controller made it playable. When you enter aim mode and use the control stick to aim it just works.
Not the same if you're emulating and using a more modern controller like a dualshock or a 360 since the analogs in those controllers have a lot more dead zones compared to the N64's.

It happened to me with Starfox 64 on Wii's VC. I couldn't aim for shit with the classic controller's analog, but I can do it just fine on the real console.

The Spyro trilogy holds up surprisingly well. 2 is a solid 10/10.

>since the analogs in those controllers have a lot more dead zones compared to the N64's
sounds like an issue with your emulation settings m8

Have to agree with the controls part. But the rest? Come on, user.

Chrono Cross

I still like it, but I never cared for the story and it was very easy. Only 3 of the bosses gave me trouble. Most of the characters are shit. The combat was neat, but its still pretty meaningless.

The way to get the true ending was so convoluted that I fell for many other fake cheats because that one was correct.

Sorta this.

I never beat it or got very far into the game. But its still ridiculously precise.

God, so many good memories

Spore

I was 14 when Carbon was released.
How old are you, kid?

Goldeneye
had so much fun in multiplayer back in the days.
recently played it again with some friends and we all found the controls to be infuriatingly bad.

Onimusha Blade Warriors.
We used to play this shit all night when me and my buddy were 11 or 12.
Dug up my old PS2 with a memory card, found my old save still intact and played for a while.
>Clunky as fuck
Dropped it within a couple of hours.

Super Mario World.
Managed to find all the secrets and get my save to 100%.
Wish I could've done it 17-18 years ago. Would've been the king of the neighbourhood since almost every kid had a SNES and SMW and nobody had their saves at 100%.

Pic-related sort of

After playing it again recently I think it has a lot of charm and was enjoyable overall but I used to play it for hours on end and I'm not really sure how

There's not really a whole lot of "game" to it, what the fuck was I doing?

your post was good until murikkah

Played it first time in my life a few months ago, still a masterpiece

>whats her name, Sup Forums?
None.
I never liked playing shit games.

Pokemon

OoT

So fucking boring.

Kabuki Quantum Fighter

Five Nights at Freddy's

Pretty much this.

Open world stuff, even the most simple, was like entering a new world. Now it's like a prerequisite.
