I'm surprised how deep into it I have gotten myself. The gameplay is shallow with repetitive dungeons and a really basic combat system but the characters have grown on me so much that I can't let go.

I think this is the case for many people. The gameplay doesn't seem especially bad, but the characters seem to carry the games for the most part.
