oh shit
gog.com
Oh shit
>get another client to do what your client already does with the games you already own!
literally what's the fucking point
Be able to play all the games you already own without having to be online.
What happened to that other GOG service?
Giving your friends download links to games you bought on Steam that they don't have.
>people still think you can't play games offline with steam
how is this misconception still around years later
Not having to deal with the bloated shitware gabe's corn taint asshole farts out so he can sell more digital hats
>only works with a handful of games
>will only be able to claim them on connect during the window they're made available by the publishers
This will go absolutely nowhere. Publishers who wanted their games to have DRM wait YEAAAAARS before they let that shit go.
>internet goes out
>oh shit, I wonder if I can play my games still offline
>fucking nope, you have to be online to activate offline mode
You're such a fucking genius.
Except that hasn't been true for years you retard
Not that guy but I'm pretty sure if you don't have a connection Steam just asks "Start in offline mode?" and you can play your games that don't need online.
...
what
Are you trying to lie or do you actually have a severe case of autism
It's not meant to be anything big.
It's just GOG doing a bit of marketing.
>"Free" games (that you already own)
>Time limited offer
It's just to draw people to the site, get them to make a account, and fill it with some games so there's some attachment to the site.
Yep, GOG are marketing geniuses at times. They're one of the only other digital distribution services that actually differentiate themselves enough from Steam to be worth using.
>OOPS, SOMETHING WENT WRONG.
>Please try again.
>nowhere on screen to "try again"
am i the only one getti--
oh... hmm....
based fucking gog saving video games
user please. I'm getting DRM free versions of some games I own and some of my eggs are being liberated from Valve's basket.
You've still got Gabe's ovipositor up your asshole in the first place, so it's a hollow victory.
You know that downloading .isos isn't illegal if you own the game, right? If you want DRM free versions of games you can just download them wherever.
>install bloatware to stop bloatware
top cuck
Not really. It's being dislodged a few milimeters.
>If everyone tries to interact with a system at once, that can overwhelm and break it. (You probably heard of DDoS attacks on servers.) Because of this, Steam limits the amount of times that other people can call on its API.
>This is NOT because Steam is evil, it's a universally accepted good practice and they are absolutely doing the right thing.
Decent explanation of what's going on. gog.com
Except you don't own steam games. You have a license to use them that can be revoked.
Cause you're stupid and buy them without a cdkey, if you own the cdkey you own the game. Buy games with cdkeys, it's that simple.
>"Please try again"
>You're already in the queue for the Steam API, so trying again will do nothing
Actually it's illegal to download the isos if they aren't your own personal rip of the game. Downloading other people's isos is illegal
Driving 1 MPH over the speed limit is also illegal.
I'm not saying you are going to go to jail over it for now or anything like that. They won't go after you unless if you are a distributor or if you have a dick ton of isos and they catch wind of it. It's the excess they care about.
You really don't understand how the law works user. A CD key is not the copy of the game, but a token to get a license of the game.
But in the end if someone really cared to fuck you in the ass for downloading ISO's of games "you own," he'll find a way. Probably won't care about one little fuck pirating though.
To finish my point since I forgot to put it in. My point is stop blatantly lying to these people who if they go in too deep can get buttfucked.
So what if I get a license for it. Why would I worry? It's not like I'm going to do anything stupid
This is some fucking 2009 shit user
If steam goes down in 10 years or so due to /x/ wizards your games can go bye bye. It's not about what you do but rather about the fact that you don't really own anything you think you do.
Oh so the same as any game ever?
OOPS, SOMETHING WENT WRONG.
Please try again.
thats exactly how it works.
Hell, even Origin will keep working for I think a week or two.
So how is someone going to revoke my license of MGS? I don't remember signing a EULA. I just bought the disk, put it in, and played it.
>You have a license to use them that can be revoked.
unless you live in the EU or Australia
A cdkey is the copy of the game, retard. My steam account has been stolen at least 8 times and every time I've retrieved in in less than 12 hours by sending a picture(yes) of my half-life 1 cdkey on the case with the receipt for the game, you can do the same for a cdkey from some cdkey website, pic of cdkey that you own it and receipt.
>A copy of the game.
You can't own a game, because it has copyrights on it, its value is based on work on it, not the materials its made of, you can't own electricity if you understand what I mean. What you own, though, what you can prove ownership of is a cdkey, it's essentially what you're paying for, but in steam, you're paying for nothing(well you have receipts again, but if they ban you from steam, other providers might not let you download it).
It'sd harder to revoke, but you still own just a license of the game
You don't own the actual game just becaause you bought a plastic case and a disk, silly
If you back up your downloaded Steam games on a HDD it's virtually the same shit as a dvd
>muh boogeyman
hasn't steam addressed theses concerns saying that they will find a way for us to play games without steam?
>I don't remember signing a EULA.
you did agree to once when the game first ran though.
That doenst happen with steam.
Much like how returning games used to be Origins advantage until steam adopted it, gog doesn't have that one
They never agreed to that in any way that would bind them by law to do that. Also faggot, I wasn't the guy you where talking to, i was just telling you the nature of the problem he is expressing concern about. I own over 200 games on steam and even I don't give a fuck.
RUN THE EXE YOU RETARD
>You can't own a game, because it has copyrights on it,
you can own a copy of a game, just as you can own a car or book but not the property.
You can't own its idea unless you've bought that, buta copy of the product isnt the idea of the prodcut
> Only Witcher 1
> They fucking own the franchise
literally none of the games i have on steam apply to this
>this list of games
why even fucking bother?
No I didn't. I don't think I've ever agreed to a EULA for any console game pre-7th generation. I'm not talking about MGS5 user.
>It'sd harder to revoke, but you still own just a license of the game
Really. What license did I sign? I'm looking all over the box and I don't see jack shit about a license, other than Sony being licensed to print MGS disks.
>If you back up your downloaded Steam games on a HDD it's virtually the same shit as a dvd
Except you're depending on Steam's software to allow you to play, and removal of Steam's software is a violation of the law.
Hey ya stupid fucking bitch. Go to steam. Click Witcher 2 with the right mouse button. Clock the cd key option. REDEEM THE GOD DAMN GAME ON GOG.
*click
I admit I'm a phone poster.
How about GoG finds a way to un-DRM Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. I really wanna play some old school MK without downloading MAME and roms and netplay patches and other bullshit.
Literally can't play a game I bought because of DRM.
>Except you're depending on Steam's software to allow you to play
No, just to download the content
Steamworks is another story since it's DRM, but that's the same for any other DRM method, at least Steamworks ins unobstrusive
>and removal of Steam's software is a violation of the law.
What
Once you've connected your accounts, any games that are added to the list in the future will, if you already have them on steam, be added to your gog account automatically. Some games will only be eligible for a certain time, but once redeemed via Connect will remain in your gog account permanently even after the eligibility time for such games expires.
>If a game is removed from your Steam account for any reason, such as through manual deletion or a refund – we reserve the right to remove the games from your GOG.com library.
What are the odds that there's no auto-deletion (due to the chance it'll delete things unintentionally if it can't see the steam profile for whatever reason) and this is a massive loophole.
Delete this fucking post right now, don't ruin it.
What's the point of this from a business sense? If there is a game eligible for this, that means I have no reason NOT to buy it on Steam. If I buy it on Steam, I can then get it on GOG for free as well. If I buy it on GOG, I only get the GOG version.
It really is illegal though user. When you try to run any game you downloaded from steam without steam turned on, you get a steam prompt before you're allowed to run it. Digital Millenium Act makes removing that prompt illegal.
Distribute some instructions on how to remove steam's software from games, and include your full name and address if you really don't believe me.
>What's the point of this from a business sense?
Nobody uses GOG Galaxy. There are a couple of hundred people online in it.
They want people to use the fucking thing.
Removing the games from your GOG library isn't a big deal since you have the games on your computer and you don't need to authenticate through GOG to play them.
>When you try to run any game you downloaded from steam without steam turned on, you get a steam prompt before you're allowed to run it.
No, only games with Steamworks, since it's DRM and requires Steam for an online check-in
Games without it can be started anywhere with just the exe
You can use it as a safety net if Steam ever goes down, I guess
But it's likely that this only works for non-Steamworks games which makes the whole point moot
i tried to play rise of the tomb raider while i had no internet the other day
it told me i had to log in since it had updated itself without my permission recently and that i couldn't play it until i went online
> Absolutely, your Steam library won't be affected. Connecting your accounts will only get you more stuff: GOG.com copies of your eligible games.
LITERALLY HELPING YOU OUT OF GABENS
>people complain
I just got ~200 drm-free games for free
Wait, wait so if I buy a game on Steam, but I have to reformat or I build a new computer. My games that I bought from before won't be in my library when I load up Steam again on my new computer?
The greatest majority of games you purchase on Steam will automatically call on the Steam API when you try to run them. The ones that are actually DRM-free are very rare. Inb4 link to that list of "DRM free" games where about half of it contains instructions on how to bypass the lightly-implemented Steam DRM. Hint: that's still illegal.
DRM-FREE GAMES? FOR BREAKFAST???
Steam requires logging back into online mode every two weeks or no games for you. It's a huge problem for anyone deployed overseas
Funny. Me too. Except instead of 200 it's like pretty much all of them.
People are making an afwully big fuss when piracy is easy as fuck.
So you do agree that it's Steamworks causing you to boot up Steam for a check-in, not Steam
And yeah of course bypassing DRM is illegal that's the entire point of DRM
It's just marketing.
Even if you buy it on Steam, GOG can now go "We got it too! Come look at all the games we've got!".
Previously, if you bought it on Steam, GOG wouldn't even know. Now they know who you are, what games you play and what you might be interested in.
Also, they get a lot of extra attention from people who have never used GOG before going "What?! Free (copies of already owned) games!?"
More accounts, more information, more marketing info.
GOG's making out like bandits and all they've had to do is write a profile scraper and get some publishers to agree to let them issue GOG keys for Steam-purchased items.
I normally keep my Steam profile private, and they indeed wouldn't be able to check if I still have the games in my library. This is an interesting issue you're raising.
Steam is the service and the client. Steamworks is the API on which Steam's framework resides. You're trying to be a smartass with semantics.
That's it? Lmao, I guess having FTL on GoG will be nice?
GOG's bundles is the business point. GOG is the only service that doesn't charge you for games you already own when you're purchasing a bundle. The more games you already own on GOG, the higher chances you'll want to purchase a bundle. It's a literal win-win, and only Valvedrones will be upset by this.
No, I'm trying to be precise since you started to throw around blanket statements like 'and removal of Steam's software is a violation of the law.'
I came here to eat your soup in front of you.
It's fucking nothing.
>GOG is the only service that doesn't charge you for games you already own when you're purchasing a bundle.
Steam's doing that with bundles now as well - "Complete your collection"
>OOPS, SOMETHING WENT WRONG.
No user, ~I~ am the one who is throwing around blanket statements like that. It is self evident that the steam software that is embedded in game executables is the Steamworks(TM) DRM system. So you are being a smartass with semantics.
I'm a different person. And that example you just made is a clear example of your being a semantic smartass. Either that, or you're too dumb to infer.
Seems too good to be real, there's not a single downfall to this is there?
If the dev's actually cared about DRM free games, then they can just remove the DRM on Steam. Steam doesn't require you to use their DRM, it's just a download manager.
What the fuck? No, this is not a case of semantics, this is a case of user confusing things entirely and spreading misinformation. You can't just makie shit up and then call semantics when you're being corrected so others don't copy your bullshit
Are you an idiot? See for the short version.
>Nobody uses GOG Galaxy
Does it really come as a surprise to anyone? The platform doesn't offer anything substantial. Look at Origin, for instance - they can't even compete with Steam with the constant stream of exclusive AAA games AND free games. What chance did Galaxy ever have? Nobody is going to switch over for some minor utility and usability improvements.
>devs using GOG to gift you drmfree versions of your steam games
Steam will become drmfree
This is good for the user
USE IT AND STOP COMPLAINING FAGS
Because Steam are known for following rules set by the ACCC.
>Steam will become drmfree
Yeah, keep dreaming, bud. Most of the games that support the cross-platform ar either old or irrelevant. Good concept and nice attempt for sure, but in reality it really is fucking nothing.
I haven't switched to Galaxy because I prefer downloading the files from the site. Just like I always avoided the Desura client when possible. It's only Steam that forces the client on me with no alternative, so I have to suck it.
Did you even bother to read that?
Anyone reading with a working brain will be able to understand. You seem to be the only one with that problem.
Maybe that's because I'm the only one that has been arguing with user?
We were talking about the differences between physical and 'digital' data, and my argument was that there is none, barring DRM like Steamworks. Thus it's very important to actually make the distinction in this case, since in fact not every game that you download from a platform like Steam also uses DRM
>literally what's the fucking point
drm-free copies? not being tethered to steam? backups in case steam cucks you?
It is just the beginning
this is the selling point against the future windows platform, with DRM in the same way as android
You will have to root your fucking PC to install anything not in the store
Thats only for games that use steamworks,
steam.wikia.com
All of these games can be launched from the folder without even needing the steam client open.
I went 2 months without internet when I moved and I was able to play all my steam games. WTF are you smoking?
>my steam account has been stolen at least 8 times
How fucking stupid are you to get jacked so many times that you lost count?
