Nintendo's R&D will never be able to integrate VR functionality into their current gen console, the consumer won't be able to foot the bill for them, they outsource assembly and manufacturing and by default are already bogged down by the costs of a separate gimmick that is standard to their design model for any console they make.

I'm thinking they're planning something to this effect if only because they can't afford to do otherwise. NX needs to have a library day 1 if it wants to have a chance in hell of floating alongside the PS4 and Xbone, which will already have 3 years worth of momentum by the time it launches. Couple it with the dismal (moreso than usual, anyways) WiiU support in the last year or so and it at least suggests this as mildly plausible - can't make WiiU games if you're bringing the A game for the launch of a new console.

The only reason the WiiU failed is because it had so few games for the first two years. They basically expected you to buy a weaker PS4, while making it obvious there would be no 3rd party support and possibly no more games ever.

I didn't buy a WiiU. But I was wrong, the WiiU ended up getting lots of games that I want to play. But how could I have known? If I had spent money on a Paperweight 4 using the same logic of "there will be games" it would've absolutely killed me.

What was it for this gen? Everything but the 3ds sucking cock?

I think what they are going to try and do is make the Gamepad 2.0 a portable system in its own right. So, it'll be a controller, but also a fully fledged handheld.

If that was the case the PS4 would've failed as well. The reason initially failed was because it wasn't marketed properly and continued to failed for other reasons. After the wii, Nintendos brand value had plummeted beyond their wildest calculations. This was the damage the wii caused the company despite its massive sales, and the consequence was that gamers had already left Nintendo and only Nintendo fans were going to buy their new console.

It didn't help that the design philosophy behind the wiiU was made with one foot still in the casual market. Nintendo missed the chance to properly secure third party developer support and the core audience of gamers back with the wiiU, two vital things that determine the success of a console.

I think they need to realise that the majority of their fanbase at this point likely has nostalgia for the GC as opposed to the NES

It's not false. They really are doing VR but not the way you people think. It's not PSVR or Vive. It's something completely new and unique and the delay is so they can have stronger hardware to use this new form of VR.

60FPS for VR is literally not usable and I actually mean that. Everything below 90FPS will give you motion sickness. Ideally it would be above 100.
