it begins
THE FALL OF DRM FREE
lol you fell for the "DRM FREE!" meme
losers
/thread
It's literally just some minor changes due to the Gog connect thing.
It doesn't really change much.
Did you actually read it before spouting cancer?
drm free is cancer you're right ;)
THIS WILL SOMEHOW INVALIDATE THE GAMES I ALREADY DOWNLOADED AND PUT ON MY BACKUP HD!
Seriously though why is Sup Forums full of such kneejerk reactionary faggots?
GOGSHIT BTFO HAHAHAHAH
As long as it doesnt copy the cancerous STEAM EULA i'm fine
>DRM-free is cancer
You are a special kind of stupid.
Hi Gabe.
"DRM FREE!" faggots are cancer because they literally have no idea what they're talking about
>making piracy legal
>basically making intellectual property worthless
>not cancer
lol kys gogfag
>making piracy legal
>What are steam refunds
Back to your hole Gabe.
Nice memes.
BUY OUR GAME WITCHER THREE NEW DLC OUT NOW
No YOU have no fucking idea. You're too young to remember when you didn't need to be connected to a world wide botnet to play the games you paid money for but trust me it was better.
>makes piracy legal
Fuck me, I didn't think they made weapons grade stupidity.
On one hand I totally think people should be critical of GoG and realize that there's always the potential they'll one day leave their DRM-free principles behind.
On the other hand, what does this have to do with that?
If anything this should be a good thing, since there's the potential (albeit small) of Steam users becoming more aware of GoG and DRM in general. Also I guess it shows that some of the decision-makers at Valve also care about it, maybe???
Would you like to give an example or otherwise elaborate on your point?
I buy games on steam even if I can get them DRM free on GoG just because I like the functionality of steam
help
GoG Galaxy.
(I haven't used it actually, so maybe it's not sufficient. But I heard it's basically their equivalent of Steam)
What functionality specifically?
>functionality of steam help
Why?
>I didn't think they made weapons grade stupidity.
Kek'd
It's not nearly as good as steam, honestly.
This coming from a total GOGtard
besides online DRM, why is DRM a problem?
But all my shit is on steam already, I don't wanna use two clients.
Just the fact everything I have is there on one page, the friend stuff, workshop, etc.
>339688291
Help as in "I know this is fucking stupid but I can't help myself, please help me free myself of it", not "I like steam's help"
Because it adds an extra layer of pain in the assery and can use system resources.
>besides being shot to death, why is gun violence a problem?
Reminder Trails in the Sky 3rd will not be on GOG because of pic related. GOG told XSEED to remove that scene or be refused on their platform. XSEED refused so GOG won't be selling TITS 3rd.
>can use system resources.
Does it noticeably affect the game? This is the only actual reason, everything else is nothing but shitposting
Not seeing this on the GOG site so can you provide a link at all?
WELL CONGRATULATIONS, YOU GOT YOURSELF A SHITPOSTING THREAD. NOW WHAT'S THE NEXT PART OF YOUR MASTER PLAN?
>weaboo shit
Just more reasons to love GoG.
Gog is total schizo with what they let on their site.
I want to put a copy of my games on a USB stick or SD card so that, in the event that I go to someone else's place, I can play games on their PC or let them try my games so that maybe they'll hopefully get them too and we can talk about them.
Pretty much any modern, effective DRM needs to be online at some point, it's just a matter of when. Unless I'm not thinking of something.
If it doesn't ever need to connect to the internet, like the old CD key way, I don't really mind. Even that, though, is a bit of a problem since it can make long-term archiving of games a problem, though it really doesn't since it's always gotten cracked.
I think that's just called quality control, something that Steam lacks.
So it's just shills posting this shit right I mean nobody actually thinks that DRM free is bad, it's like saying "man I sure hate not being kicked in the nuts, look at those fags not being kicked in the nuts, how stupid are they?"
It just wouldn't make sense. So who's the culprit? Knee jerk reaction says it's EA, they're the harshest with DRM and they're just known to be bastards all around. Who do you guys think is behind this?
Do you have a source for that? I'm curious to read about that.
If you're archiving games digitally you can just archive the cd key with them.
Thank you, these reasons actually make sense. Every time I'm in these threads, its just people shitposting and shouting DRM BAD.
GOG is ruled by the SJW tyrants of Europe. Legally they probably can't have that scene or they'll break EU obscenity laws--unless they rewrite it to be she was empowered by the religion of peace, in which case it's all okay.
Bored people who just want to shitpost.
Not everything is a massive conspiracy.
This is a good point. I can understand people being totally indifferent to DRM (I've bought some games that are always-online myself, although they were multiplayer-only so it's not so unreasonable). But why would people think it's an outright bad thing?
It doesn't benefit the end user in many ways, atleast.
They have pretty much confirmed its done to appease shareholders.
Based XSEED
You're too stupid to remember all the problems before platforms like Steam came along, it was way worse back then. Today I can download any game I have bought with full speed, get it automatically updated in a very short time.
What the fuck are you talking about?
What does a game lacking DRM do to get in the way of that?
Source? They have Senran. Trails 3rd isnt even listed as being negotiated for GoG.
They had these things called patches which you downloaded from the developers site, and then if you were smart, backed up somewhere. Except you didn't need to download the whole game like you do today. Even if you buy a game on disk these days it still downloads obscene amounts of data.
Your post just proves even further that you're underage.
It's just Sup Forums diaspora, ignore it.
Can't say much but yeh, don't expect to see it on GOG anytime soon. Same goes for Senran Kagura to a lesser extend. They mostly have problems with loli content apparently.
And this is something Valve just agreed upon?
>I don't wanna use two clients.
Oh no, 2 programs! So hard to manage!
tfw no more
> But i already get DRM free games from steam / like clockwork posting in Insomnia Sale threads.
RIP
DRM from LEAST TO MOST cancerous.
>CD key
>Password in manual
>Requiring disk to be in disk drive
>E-mail verification
>Game client with offline mode avilable (ex. steam)
>Game client with online check in
>Game client with persistent online
>Phone verification
What did I miss?
Thanks for the info XSEED employee.
I was really hoping there was something publically available I could read. I'm quite interested since I woiuldn't expect the sister company of those who made Witcher games to shy away from controversial content.
Honestly, if they had just turned down the game outright because of the content, I wouldn't mind. The idea that they asked for it to be cut, and then they would sell it, is kind of insulting.
Of course this is assuming anything you've said so far is correct.
You wish, just like all the keane stuff will never die.
Now who wants some icecream
>Phone verification
That's not actually a thing, is it?
limited installations per machine
I've seen it before, thankfully very rare.
Man I'm so fucking pissed off that I activated mobile steam guard.
Thank you Bond. Don't know how I forgot that one.
Dongles.
Don't see them around much, though. Mostly used by professional software.
>Polish company
>Expecting them not to be money grubbing third world trash
Come on Sup Forums
This.
I do agree that steam does add convenience by handling those things for you, but in reality you start depending on them.
Password in manual sounds really cute. Even if there's the chance that someone just loses the manual, or gets a used copy without the manual, I kind of like the idea.
...
Not him but to be fair Witcher series doesn't have any controversial content. Geralt only fuck adult women last I recall.
I find myself buying games on steam more often than gog because the sale prices go down even further
Isn't the changes only for the Connect stuff because it uses Steam's Web API?
Or did i miss some addition?
The last Insomnia sale a couple months back sucked dick anyway, was nothing like the previous ones.
It's caused plenty of SJW bitching, but by like 99% of the population's standards I guess you're right. Just a violent game with sexual content, but nothing that would really make waves.
>a physical notebook for keys supplied
>a lens to see what's typed on the screen and type it out again
>authentication by hardware id
>anything written in .NET framework
>OOPS, SOMETHING WENT WRONG
>Valve takes SteamAPI down for 5 days
hehehehe
Exactly. In the end it's a pretty normal game, I really don't see why people act if the game was controversial.
Would be sly :p
>windows 10
>forcing update
>lol bricked machine
It was not cute, sometimes it was a downright pain in the ass.
The "password" was shit like "Enter the 4th word of the 8th line of the 2nd paragraph of the 11th page" which you would do only to be told you got it wrong. Some of the more elaborate stuff was amusing for a few seconds, like the code wheels, but it grew old really quick.
Worst thing was you wouldn't be asked just once, they used to sprinkle this shit throughout the game.
There are some games those cardboard wheels where you have to match up symbols and shit. A variation on password in manual I suppose.
Simulators use them, although not the entertainment sort of simulator. The concept of oculus content exclusivity is basically the same hardware check.
Seriously, what the fuck went wrong?
I really hope the next one is better, one of the few things I still enjoy on this shithole.
Password in the manual was great when it was incorporated as part of the game. The Island of Dr Brain used it as one of their learning puzzles that taught you some basic map skills and learning latitude and longitude.
Once I pay for a game, I should be able to do whatever I want with all the data in it, barring online interactivity.
It's my game. I can copy it, delete it, sell it, paste it, whatever. Don't give a shit about piratefags.
>Even if you buy a game on disk these days it still downloads obscene amounts of data.
That's if the disk doesn't just contain a Steam downloader link.
>buy Skyrim along side my consolefag roommates
>have to download the whole game, just a steam link on the disks
>takes so long that buyers remorse sets in while watching the consolefags
At least I can use the mod nexus to make up for the subpar game.
It gets really confusing having the same first name as Newell sometimes.
IIRC, one of the King's Quest games (5 or 6) went a step further with the password in manual and required you to answer lore related questions or solve riddles with hints that was in the lore book included with the game.
Tell me what game uses this, just for curiosity. I only know that some programs do this, like Corel Draw; and even that I'm not that sure that they're still using that kinda shit anymore.
Ultima VII did this; you had to answer some world specific trivia riddles that were only in the manual in order to leave the starting town.
Pain was borrowing the game from a friend but him forgetting to give you the manual.
I remember when I was kid I went to Thailand, and in one of the malls I went to, they were selling photocopies of PC game manuals that had that sort of anti piracy measure. This was like 92 maybe.
You can pick 1 (one) PC game to come to GoG, completely DRM-free. It will retain all the same functionality like multiplayer.
Topware games did that
Pretty sure that was King's Quest 6.
I think it was one of the Space Quest games where the password check screen just flat out said something along the lines of "Here's the pain in the copy protection screen we are being forced to include by management."
The Space Quest devs got away with some weird shit. Pretty sure it was Space Quest 3 where the point of the game is to rescue software developers from enslavement by Sierra. They don't allude to Sierra, they just flat out say Sierra.
BF4 just so I don't have to use Origin for one game
City of Heroes.
Dark Souls
A dagger in my heart
>Console exclusive
I don't mind origin
I think battlelog is dumb though and I wish they'd do away with it with BF1.
I could see them doing that if they could, packaging it with DSfix from the beginning.
