How durastically have your tastes changed over the years?

How durastically have your tastes changed over the years?

I don't even know what the fuck happened to me. I was as normie as you could get, thinking I actually had good taste. I would play your annual, run of the mill, white-man shooters and all that cancerous indie shit on steam.
Flash forward to now and I exclusively play Japanese games and JRPGs. Even a slight thought of my old self makes me want to fucking vomit. All in all, I'm pretty happy now. Japanese games are awesome.

It hasn't changed much over the years for me but then again I was born in the 80s so I grew up with good vidya in 90s/00's. Always liked RPGs, strategy, and an occasional shooter here and there but not any the triple A crap they mostly vomit out nowadays. The new Doom might eventually be worth a play thru though.

Didn't read the thread, just wanted to let you know that I'm saving your rare pepe.

I liked video games and had fun with them, now I don't.

It's nice, isn't it?
Found it while browsing r9k ;)
Could you do me a favour and read the post now, friend?

>I exclusively play Japanese games and JRPGs
don't worry, you'll grow out of that phase too

>AAA garbage
>AA games
>weeb shit it was a dark time of my life
>more hardcore RPGs and beat'em'ups
>grand strategy games and other autistic spreadsheet simulators

So your taste got worse, cool.

...

What comes next?
I feel pretty confident that my taste is set in stone at this point. I have so many old and new games to try. It's exciting!

The first two years of High School, I was really insecure because I was worried I'd never get a girlfriend - so I tried to play all the "cool" games so I had things that I could talk about with others.

Once I got my girlfriend, and she didn't care what games I played, I started going full weeb. Now I'm playing almost exclusively imports.

/blog

What, for moving away from weebshit?

Poor quality troll. I give it a 4/10 at best.

I liked Nintendo, then Sony, then Nintendo again
Once day, the cycle shall continue once more

I started as a nintendrone in the late 90s when I went over to my friend's house and we played n64 and stayed a nintendrone up until the Wii came out and then I just kinda dropped vidya for a while until I got a toaster a few years ago and got into stuff like morrowind and mount and blade. Now I have a ps4 but still play old PC games on my toaster but I find that I don't like as many games as I used to

Before
>Had a Wii and a 360

Now
>Have a Wii U and a PC

The times, they are a-changin'.

Ralph pls leave

You've.......... evolved. Good taste bro, I only play Japanese games too. I used to play Halo and Gears all day but I guess it's about time I got good taste.

>2005/6
Played a lot of modern classics that Sup Forums has a boner for like Okami, RE4, and FF12

>2006/7
Got into Nintendo after I got a Wii. Party games basically became my favorite genre or a while.

>2007
Got a 360. Was excited af to play Bioshock and Oblivion on it, but ended up hating both of them.

>2007/8
Got Xbox live. CoD and Halo 3 became my thing, would end up playing both for years.

>2008/9
FO3 became one of my favorite games of all time and I decided to check out the previous games. Realized how much I missed older gaming and how much I hated modern gaming. Can't even go back to FO3 after playing 1, 2 and NV.

>2010/11
Dunno, stopped playing games for a while.

>2012
Got back into JRPGs after xenoblade.

>2013
Got a wiiu and didn't have any games for it for like ever. I think thesis the year I got into metal gear, which is my favorite series.

>2014/15
Skipped gaming for the most part.

>2016
Got a ps4. Got into the souls series with bb.

>2014/15

Yeah that was a pretty awful time for vidya. I can see why you stopped.

Not much, I'm capable of enjoying all types of games

>JRPGs

So you regressed

I ascended.

Can't get more braindead than JRPGs unless you play Walking Simulators.

>Jrpgs
you are single.
older than 25
with few friends, but highly chance of no friends at all.
you live with your parents.
and probably have no job, but could have a half time job.
you desired a girl but she plain dump you or you didnt had the courage to say it to her, the last having more chances to be what happened.

only difference now from before is that i've come to terms with that i'll always be shit at fighting games and RTS games.

Stil fucking play them though. Love total war warhammer, but i'm never going to get far since i'm apparently missing something fucking obvious.

I've always just played everything, but never when it's new. I'm late to the party 95% of the time.

I play racing games, simulators, and puzzle games.

I don't play anything over-fantastical and nothing with a narrative because I'm playing a video game and you will always get a better narrative from a book, magazine, play, or movie.

Kid: Platformers, or anything really
Early teens: JRPGs
Late teens: MMOs, FPS
Early 20s: MMOs, JRPGs
Late 20s: JRPGs, VNs

There's something really relaxing and comfortable about playing JRPGs and that I doubt will ever change. There are also tons of new JRPGs on the current gen of handhelds so it's a good time to be playing.

I went from liking vidya to not liking vidya

>nothing on colecovision or 2600

shit taste just like Sup Forums

Why did you have a 360 over a pc? Computers have existed forever.

i started gaming in 1997 on a ps1

ive always been just a slight step above normie-tier

>Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Alien isolation, Far cry 4, Just Cause 3, Halo 5, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Disgaea 5, Lisa, Volume, Astebreed
>awful

Fuck off, hipster.

fuck off.

i have started liking rts/x4 and jrpgs more, and action hack'n'slash less

>Halo 5 and DA:I anything less than abominations

fuk yu

Used to think Pokemon were good games.
I now know they are terrible games. The very originals were good considering the tech at the time, but anything after that is cancer.

>JRPGs, VNs
>late 20s

Halo 5 was excellent

not really, they were dumbed down versions of a game made a decade ago

i used to pirate games without shame. now i cant think of doing that now without feeling bad.

I don't get what you're trying to say.

That they're bad? Yes, I agree?

And what's wrong with Inquisition?

It's Witcher 3-lite.

>the very originals were good considering the tech at the time

>not playing what you enjoy regardless

Yeah they were. GB and GBC were shit. They didn't age well though, and Pokemon games today are EXACTLY the same with updated graphics.

But they weren't good consdering the tech at the time, because there were more complex games of the same kind made a decade earlier, how fucking thick can you be?

I've been coming to Sup Forums since 2007, mostly Sup Forums.

I like browser games, /vg/ hosted minecraft servers, terraria with friends, and old emulated games.

Sup Forums hasn't managed to change my tastes much. I used to like turn based rpgs more but I lost interest in the more slow ones that can be played basically with a turbo A button. The more engaging ones are fine.

>more complex games of the same kind made a decade earlier
Enlighten me.

...

Generally dislike WRPG, Stalkers good if that counts as a WRPG, cant play most shooters, jprgs and other weeb games are the best.

Eh.

>cant play most shooters
why not?

Jrpg's aren't games though.

This is a game.

I grew up in the '90s when every video game was good.

Here's a breakdown.

Early '90s - Platformers. The cartoonier the better.

Mid-late '90s - Absolute peak of cinematic, multimedia games. Willing to give anything a try if it's cinematic. Mostly gravitated to point-and-click adventures.

Early-'00s - Grand Theft Auto Vice City and emulating 4th gen. Trying to get DOS games to work on Windows 98

Mid-'00s - Collecting DOS, Mega CD and Saturn games.

Late-'00s - Got back into gaming with the DS and Ace Attorney. Bought a PS3 and played third person action games and anything that felt retro. spending thousands on eBay.

Early-'10s - Pretty much all the big games. Bought a Wii and WiiU. This is when cynicism starts to creep in and I'm sceptical of modern games. 2010-11 was the absolute peak of gaming. It's been downhill ever since.

Now - Collecting original Xbox and PS2 games. I'm much more discriminating with the modern games I buy. I like many Japanese titles. DOOM was great.

went for seiko to rolex

My tastes haven't changed, just expanded.

I used to like Pokemon, then I switched over to SMT, and from there I got into dungeon crawlers. Feels great.

Rather than cant, its that I dont find any of the shooters interesting or fun to play, Im really bad at quake and quake like games but Id rather play those than things like COD or whatever else comes out. I dont think stalkers shooting is super unique but its good enough to be fun while exploring the world thats also interesting and I dont think alot of games do it like stalker

>jprgs and other weeb games are the best.

How is this not fun?

youtube.com/watch?v=k_ZY5_i1--g

Trying playing something like Max Payne 3, FEAR or The New Order

Forgot to mention gears, thats one of the better ones. Probably wouldent ever play beastmode/horde unless with friends though

>Forgot to mention gears, thats one of the better ones
Are you kidding? It's generic as fuck. Jesus, I don't think you've played a shooter in your life.

? Ive played all kinds of shooters, gears is a fun third person multiplayer shooter, atleast that game is somewhat difficult. csgo cod halo etc are all literally garbage tier shooting games, and i dont bother much with singleplayer shooters, unless the setting looks really cool

I used to get blackout drunk and play videogames. Today I get blackout drunk and watch anime. It's been a fascinating transition.

Leave.

Gears is literally the blueprint of a generic third person shooter. If you like that trash, you like 95% of games on the market

>halo
Halo 1, 2, 3 and 5 are very well designed console FPS games. If you don't appreciate them, but enjoy Gears then you're objectively fucking retarded. I could understand if someone grew up playing Unreal or Quake but didn't like them, but Halo is as good as a console FPS can be.

ur wrong but ok, I have yet to play a third person shooter that was as fun as gears also halo is trash and is continued to be trashier with each game.

Joust is the best

yes
no
yes
yes
no job
no

half right i guess

Not as good as Congo Bongo, Summer Games, or Burger Time.
