No manufacturer has ever been able to keep their momentum going past two generations of hardware. Nintendo beat down Sega and Atari for two gens with the NES and SNES but then Sony dethroned them with the PS1. Then Sony beat down Nintendo and Sega for two gens with the PS1 and PS2 but then Nintendo returned to dethroned them with the Wii. Oddly enough Nintendo and Sony swapped gen successes between the Wii > WiiU and PS3 > PS4 while Microsoft just kinda settled for second place during all three of them.
