around 2007-2012 the trend was brown and bloom so everyone hated anything dark. the trend was to make more "serious" games so people here hated anything that wasn't at least a little silly.

Look what's happening now, color is becoming "in" again and people are starting to hate on it;

It's not black and red, if it's more red than black like a ladybug or equal parts red and black like Harley Quinn it doesn't look edgy. If it's a guy dressed in black with red highlights making a cool pose with a grumpy scowl you bet he's an edgelord.
