The most ridiculous and absurd aspect of the Half-Life series was when Judith Mossman and Eli Vance are left in Dr. Breen's office at the end of HL2 and are then suddenly at White Forest at the beginning of Episode 1 (a location which the player takes 2 whole games to reach). Also, when they were left in that room you could hear Elite Combine guards knocking against the office door, trying to enter. It's fucking ridiculous.

It's safe to assume Mossman had the run of the place and was treated well for giving the Combine/Breen intel.
And I'd wager they took the trains like Gordon and Alyx were trying to.
Gordon is knocked out for some time after HL2. I don't remember if they state how long but it wouldn't take long to get a head start by train considering Gordon and Alyx had to stop and fight off aliens and zombies every five minutes.

I guess you're right. Still, this always stuck out as very irritating to me. City 17 was already falling into chaos and disorder when you murder Dr. Breen. It can't have been that easy to escape the city on some underground train.
