Because of legal reasons in Germany. While Nazi imagery is allowed in art, video games are considered toys in Germany, so they don't count towards that. And no company gives a fuck enough to contest it legally, so they just give in.


Though for any germanfags here, is it illegal for you guys to play the uncensored versions of the game or is it just you can't buy it there?

i only have a ps4, i don't recognize all obscure PC games on sight

but how does that work for games outside of germany? do you know if they removed censored for other countries ?

I thought so too but that's wrong. It all started with Wolfenstein3D. When it was released it quickly found it's way to court where a judge ruled that, in this form, nazi symbols in video games would lead to a youth becoming desensitized to their historical meaning so the game was banned, and any game that displayed those symbols and references in a similar way, would fall under the same ruling. That was over 20 years ago and no company has yet had the balls to go to court over their game. The ruling could very well and somewhat easily be overturned but nobody wants to risk it.
