>ended up being sexy

It's pretty much both, and for a reason.
The right term would be "disturbing". Like Ito himself put it, the game's themes are all about mixing sex and death; a combo that tends to be quite powerful and emotionally stressing to many.

Anyway, Silent Hill thread?

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

They were super spooky to 11 year old me. I had a nightmare of them stomping on my throat until my windpipe caved in.

I've watched a longplay of SH1, and I'm currently a longplay of SH2.
This all seems terribly disappointing to me. There's almost nothing ever happening. Just identical ennemies, be it pink flying things or zombies, getting stomped, riddles with far-fetched solutions, little to no plot...
The horror element mainly resides in the music and the lack of visibility, but in the end, it's very shallow. The music is a buildup to nothing, and nothing hides in the fog or the dark, except for the same pink dogs and four-legged thing you've already killed twenty times. i'm certainly not a fan of repetitive screamer shit like FNAF, but SH is in the opposite excess. There's just almost no surprise, nothing to actually be afraid of.

Maybe that's because I'm watching the games and not playing them, but still, I expected better from such a famous franchise.

>Maybe that's because I'm watching the games and not playing them

Gee you think? Fuck or kill yourself.

Face it, SH is way overrated.

Here's your (You), now eat shit faggot

dumb ratposter

>tfw you agree with otherwise atrocious bait
I know better than to post about disliking SH2, though. It's like talking to someone who thinks Fight Club or Donnie Darko is the greatest movie ever made, but with added delusions about every flaw being "intentional."

The monsters aren't really the spooky part, except for Pyramid Head who's the only enemy really designed to cave your skull in. Everyone else is unreasonably sexy or over the top because it's all based on James' psyche, and James is a disgusting pervert.

video games are for playing and actively experiencing

would you watch soma in lieu of playing it entirely? I watched a few playthroughs after I went through the game to see how other people fared and what choices they made and it was entertaining, but you can't convey that kind of experience passively - something as surreal as silent hill even more so necessitates firsthand experience

I just purchased Jacob's Ladder on eBay as I like Silent Hill 2 and 3.
What am I in for once it finally arrives?

the realization that all of your favorite things are derivative, also the best kind of bad time

Pretty good, but the meta is weak and there's little to the endgame.

Maybe it's more specific to horror games. I've watched a few other games on this format, and why there were considered good was obvious to me. You'll probably scream in hatred at me for not experiencing them myself, but they included Parasite Eve and Shadow of the Colossus.

The problem is, I don't want to pay for a SH game. I mostly play strategy or RPG games. I was simply watching those longplays because it lacked to my gaming culture or something.

Maybe I should watch let's plays of them, as watching someone play it for the first time and commenting it might be closer to the actual experience than a silent longplay.

>I don't want to pay for a SH game

But now I don't want to play them either. I guess I'll just finish watching SH2 and watch a commented let's play of SH3.

>umaruposting

DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE

You don't like it ?

any more of these kind of pics?

how do these specifically cater to kids with autism? I thought they were just weird knickknacks

Tons, but I don't have any of them.

Also, when I say SH is not spooky, just look at this.

Go to 1:39:41 and tell me this is not the funniest thing you've seen today.

Umaru post of truth. Way to expose a shitty game. SH is a bland POS that isn't even a real horror game. Well done.

pyramid head?
He's pretty terrifying

of course you would most likely feel a little more threatened by him if you actually played the game instead of just watching someone else play it. It was made for you to feel agency, not just be a startling peekaboo simulator that is the modern horror genre, but I'm assuming you know this and decided to just shitpost with your favorite flavor of the month moe anime.

t. someone who watched let's plays of horror games but then actually started playing them

based umaru

...

Don't get me wrong, the character is impressive. Pyramid Head's visual design is god tier, and I get why he's become such a cultural icon.

What I find hilarious is the scene in itself. It's so surreal. The boss's attack are so slow, he takes five good seconds to swing his sword. And while this happens, the player just turns around him, hitting him with a stick, which seems to have absolutely no effect. It looks like a cripple fight, and the music, which sounds just like a monkey banging on a metal plate, adds to the ridiculous feeling of the whole thing.

And then he just walks inside water and disappears.

>not liking the SH soundtracks
oof, rookie mistake nigger.

if you actually PLAY the game, you realize the area is a lot smaller than you think, and one hit from his bigass knife can fuck you up big time. Especially on hard mode (the mode you should be playing on). I've had a friend I lent the game to get stuck indefinitely on this fight and I had to beat it for him. His janky movement adds to his otherwordly feel and his sudden departure always gives me a huge sense of relief on hard mode.

Once again, I suggest you play a game instead of watch it. As someone who used to do this, you really don't get nearly the same experience and are left unable to really get what's going on in regards to the gameplay and what the developers were going for.

You can use any weapon. Or no weapon, just wait it out.

>The boss's attack are so slow, he takes five good seconds to swing his sword.

I think that is pretty fast for such a big sword. Also, it's a one-hit kill. That's why it is slow.

and imagine playing this on hard mode and getting here with not enough bullets. You can't kill PH here, and damaging him only makes him leave sooner, but in like a hit you're history.

Sure it looks funny out of context, but add the spooky environment, music, static noise and this shit is spooky as fuck.

Didn't Pyramid Head rape to death one of those things?

The music is good in general, it's just this specific piece that is shit.
Thing is, watching a good game mgenerally makes me thing "Wow, I'd like to play that game !". But watching SH makes me feel the exact opposite. Even when I'm watching someone who knows how to solve the riddle play it, it still feels icnredibly slow. I can't even imagine how it must feel playing it myself without a guide, taking hours turning around in the same dark corridors, fighting the same two kinds of enemies, while searching for a key or a token or something. And how would I be motivated to do this, knowing what when I'll finally arrive to new content, get a to a new cutscene, it will make no sense and have bad dubbing.

you're really missing the point of what it was meant to convey but whatever

well kinds of games and atmospheres appeal to different kinds of people I suppose. My guess is you don't like movies/shows like Jacob's Ladder or Twin Peaks. I could defend scenes and atmospheres, but in the end if it doesn't appeal to you personally then you won't care anyway. You should probably stick to RPGs

The appearance of the first one was good. You take the flashlight, and this supposedly inanimated object just stands up in the background, and you barely have time to react.
That's good : it's surprising, it's original, it's nervous, and it's actually spooky.

But then, the game just has hundreds of those just standing in the fog or in corridors, barely attacking you, just standing there taking hits and making "Oarh !" sounds until they die.

Don't care what anyone says, the firsn mannequin you encountered in SH2 was one of the best spooks I ever experienced. Noped right the fuck out of that room. Enemy is a pushover but it's all in the execution, man, and the game had enough tact to introduce it in a "FUCK ME WHAT EVEN IS THAT" sense.
