I assume there are very few if any shills, and most of the people saying they're shills are lying to either perpetrate the meme or to make whatever they say they're shilling look bad.

If you wanted to advertise to Sup Forums, why not just buy a fucking banner ad? Seriously, I think the only company that's ever done it is J-List.

it was immensely obvious during OW beta and first week of release that Sup Forums was being spammed with non-regulars coming here to advertise the game

in response gearbox sent like one guy who tried weakly to viral battleborn (and compare it constantly to OW) in a similar fashion but he was much worse at it and very transparent

as for older examples, I have seen LEGO Dimensions shill posting, and then there was the Week of Hitmanposting when Ep1 was announced, maybe longer than a week, people clearly not from Sup Forums defending a near-empty $60 game

You can usually tell when a real shill is around when they use seemingly unnatural or robotic speech patterns when they talk about a game or use certain buzzwords such as "innovative" and "game-changing" when posting. Otherwise it's usually someone who actually likes the game for some reason or another.

If you really believe it's more efficient for a company to purchase a banner ad for a site as badly viewed as Sup Forums rather than pay a couple thousand people to shill things then you're retarded.

It's having a bunch of people do all the dirty work except you only have to pay them with discounts, cheap products, and less than minimum wages to do it due to the nature of the work. You can also employ people to create teams and teams and teams of people to work under them creating a pyramid structure in which the benefits and cost efficiency outright eliminate risks.
