>The Virtual Boy failed for a number of reasons, among them "its high price, the discomfort caused by play [...] and what was widely judged to have been a poorly handled marketing campaign.

it provides hollow and fleeting fun atm but in a few years itll be ebic

just like the kinect am i right.

As usual no one cares about PC community.

When the console version is released it will blow up positively

You can't have VR games where you walk around. Movement makes you feel nausea.

Any further questions?

I play flight sims. Of course I want vr because the game is suited for it.

But most games aren't suited for VR.

I guess driving game could also benefit from VR.

It's amazing but currently overpriced and no games

Tried the Vive

It feels perfect. Great to walk around in, can't wait until they perfect it and make it not blurry.

It is fun, It really does give you that feel that you stepped into another world its some rad stuff.

I wanna throw up 5 minutes into using my Oculus Rift, I agree with the walking. Driving however doesn't set me off. I played Euro Truck Simulator for hours without feeling sick.

That's a good sign then. I did wonder about driving vs walking.

>So is VR any fun? does it really make you feel like you're in a video game or no?

I spent a few hours in the htc vive. It absolutely does live up to the hype and i felt sad when i had to go back to the real world.

The trouble is vr games will eventually exhaust all the ways to work around locomotion. Well, you can't walk around but you're a passenger in a car! You're in a shark cage! You're piloting a spaceship. I think vehicle based games will win.

I already preordered the ps4 vr and am psyched. I think that makes the most sense for vr entry, since even just the video card required for the rift/vive costs as much as a ps4, and the ps4vr is STILL cheaper than the rift or vive headset.

>What is room-scale

Sure, you can't convincingly walk long distances, but when the screens eventually get good enough for you to not need a monitor anymore, you'll also likely have full body and face tracking.

Instead of sitting alone in your messy room as a slightly-chubby unlovable dweeb, you'll be spending time in a futuristic room in space as an anime girl with six virtual screens and a personal jazz band playing relaxing tunes from a far corner.

Eventually we'll be able to hook up our brains directly, but that won't be for a while. Still, the former option is pretty fun.

just ordered a vive. how long does it take them to ship?

lol, this again

wrong, moving around at 90hz doesn't make you feel sick at all num nutts, being in a car on some platform moving very quickly will but, fucking normal vr games where you control your movement is fine

I love my vive, expensive but, I could sell it tomorrow and make everything back considering it's backordered as is the rift. I won't though it's just too amazing, forget trying to understand the experience from 2d videos, they never show the lens magnification in the hmd anyway, it's indiscribable but, fucking awesome. PoolnationVR muh nigga, audioshield too

In Japan they sent it fast as fuck however if you just ordered from say the U.S., you may have to wait a month or 2, didn't it say in the email?

there's hope.
roadtovr.com/samsungs-new-headphones-trick-your-inner-ear-to-move-you-in-vr/

It's cool but kind of overrated. Yeah, we get, you're inside the videogame, woo wee. Frankly, I get the same amount of immersion just by looking at the screen but whatever, that's just my opinion.

The real problem lies in the not at all affordable price of the VR headsets. Even the PSVR is too expensive for the average customer (400 bucks for a console plus 400 more for the headset, ignoring the need of move controllers, eye toy camera and PS+ subscription to play online).
So the problems are the price and the fact the game developed for VR so far are basically tech demos. Nothing groundbreaking.
In 10 or 20 years, maybe, VR will become cheaper and with better games. Right now, it's not that hot.

>wrong, moving around at 90hz doesn't make you feel sick at all num nutts

How am I to trust you when:

>I love my vive

It has as many quality games as the Kinect and move

>since even just the video card required for the rift/vive costs as much as a ps4

are you from 2015?

gamespot.com/articles/amds-199-radeon-rx-480-graphics-card-is-vr-ready/1100-6440366/

It's ok, you can teleport.

I just wanna take a stroll through Stormwind.

It didn't say anything like that but upon double checking as a write this post I just got an email saying they shipped it. so ok then, guess it took 1 day to ship from time of ordering in the US

>fun

I just want to stroll through Skyrim Remastered 4k.

I played 40-50 hours of TF2 with my Oculus Rift as a scout main

I can't wait for Ace Combat VR

you can't, walking doesn't work even with the highest ones; Enjoy vomit.

by realizing that there are no vr critics, just people who haven't yet tried vr...
see or you can keep rejecting the next revolution in gaming until you can't ignore it anymore, it's not going away and it's just a matter of time before the retards on Sup Forums try it for the 1st time and then normalize it, until then it's denial and ridiculous comparisons to the wiiU and kinect

>get this cheap budget GPU that can run VR on lowest settings that isnt future proof

Masterrace!

Why are you comparing the virtual boy to modern VR?

>just people who haven't yet tried vr
Man, you people will never quit with this bullshit, right?
>He doesn't like VR, it means he didn't try it!
Embarassing.

god damn, vive owner here did that really not make you sick ata ll? windlands doesn't make me sick so maybe there is hope for scoot, fuck yes yes yes yes

I'm old enough to have seen the rise and fall of VR 15 years ago

It failed then for the same reasons it will fail now

So it means we're still using the same cars people used 100 years ago?

yes

I used the dk2 for a month and never once felt motion sickness or anything like that. I don't get what the fuss is about.

It was absolutely fantastic to play anything in a cockpit and for anything else, still very cool but not worth the price tag.

I'll buy VR when its $150/200 but until then I'm happy to wait.

quora.com/How-big-an-issue-is-the-nausea-problem-for-Virtual-Reality-products/answer/Steve-Baker-9

I love this framerate meme. People have a problem with motion sickness in real life, so clearly refresh rate is the problem.

it's more powerful than my OC 970 and my rig with a shit cpu runs every vive game I own and I own 40 titles, perfectly... even people with much weaker cards are constantly reporting many vr game running fine. Yes, enjoy being forced to choose the ps4.5 to play 2017 psvr titles optimally lol

The Model T is one of the most successful products of all time.

Maybe it's gonna become fun once normies completely abandon it and it's nothing but wizards and NEETs

When will this idiot God get a new GPU?

all i'm getting from that is that it meets the minimum requirements though

and when a single dropped frame induces vomiting, combined with the wonkiness and difficult QA'ing pc gaming, teetering on the edge of minimum system requirements is a bad idea

also if you'll pardon my goalpost shuffle, a pc build with that card still won't be cheaper than a ps4 (or ps4.5 or whatnot)

>Man, you people will never quit with this bullshit, right?

you won't see this "quit" ever, try and you'll know and no I don't mean the google cardboard/gearVR, I don't really care if you want to stik yourself in the digital dust though, you just might get confused as this "gimmick" only gets more and more talked about and widespread in the coming years. I'm playin HordeZ I couldn't give the slightest fuck xD

>I don't really care if

>replies anyway
weak

>I'm old
yep

Vive is comparable to Model T.
Virtual Boy is comparable to this piece of shit.

if that were a basis of success then movies like cloverfield and paranormal activity would not have been a huge hit. movies like that are also completely inaccessible to people who get motion sickness and they they still succeeded.

You'll see

...

>since some people can't enjoy somthing it can't possibly become successful

these threads are starting to get amusing

Are you people stupid? I said that the refresh rate has nothing to do with motion sickness. I linked an article that explains why. What the fuck are you idiots talking about?

lol, salty VR owners

kind of just like video games never got successful since tennis for two was shit right? god damn I think you could be kind of stupid mang

I think you need to stop taking these things so personally.

The navy guy didn't address anything about consumer vr tech (rift, vive) and a lot of the comments mention that

Except that shit was fun and simple and didn't cause nausea

>taking these things so personally

No, really. What the fuck are you talking about?

>The navy guy didn't address anything about consumer vr tech

Did you not even read the fucking introduction?

It does make you feel incredibly immersed in game world. And it is fun. But the biggest problem right now(besides price) is the lack of content. Sure there's a gorillion demos, but those are played for five minutes at parties to show your friends how cool this thing is. There's nothing to actually play on it, not even a game with a solid 3-hour campaign. Closest you have are old games modded to support VR, but those were not made for it and that really shows when you have to look at Alyx Vance's fish-like head, or light bulbs the size of your head, or camera height making you realize main character is shorter than manly tears.

>simple
ya man real simple
also I would love if you could post a video of someone having a more immersive experiment than this on some kind of video game system othr than a modern VR headset
youtube.com/watch?v=6urJejluX44
(loud video)

It was 3 years ago when DK1 was first released and TF2
It was literally my first experience with VR.

For some reason the VR nausea never hit me. Maybe because I stare at a screen for 12+ hours a day every day but I honestly don't know how anyone can get sick from VR:

I've made my parents, cousins and friends try it out too. For some reason all of them had a nausea that lasted at least 2-3 days with a constant headache except for a friend who managed to go through the entire thing without a reaction.

Oh also they've completely stopped working on TF2 VR so it doesn't even work with the latest Oculus Rift drivers properly. This might be good news for you since the fat jew Lucky disabled ReVive support for the new update. Go get yourself some legacy drivers for OR and the latest edition of ReVive and have fun.

Go watch any of pewdiepie's horror let's plays.

>So is VR any fun?

The potential for fun is there.

It'll be a while though.

Meanwhile, enjoy Ben Kuchera pissing himself.

youtube.com/watch?v=UujtfN7hCdo

Still doesn't address the nausea issue.

Anyway I don't care. Regardless of anything said on here, VR is going to bomb hard. Just watch, you'll see.

>Still doesn't address the nausea issue.

People with inferior genetics should just go extinct. Does that address it for you?

It addresses my stereotypes about VR enthusiasts, yes

Come on, man. Let them have something.

>pewdiepie'
I didn't mean a youtube shill who has to act surprised and overly animated as a part of his routine you fucking 12 year old jesus lol I hope that was b8

>Just watch, you'll see.
some people can't fly do to a fear of heights, the aviation industry is going to bomb hard, just wait you'll see

I gave you exactly what you asked for. Why are you so frustrated?

You know, saying that doesn't make VR and it's proponents sound like pioneers of manned flight.
It makes you sound like a rube who is suckered in by corporate promises.

man these marketing companies are so fucked in the head.

do you not know the difference between acting and not acting? I suppose you're subbed to totalbiscut, and markplier too right and think that's their real selves yes?

I don't care about whatever pissing contest you want to have over internet personalities. I gave you what you wanted. Now you're trying to pivot to whatever garbage you feel like screeching about next. Have fun.

What nausea issue? If you mean locomotion-based stuff where your inner ear disagrees, that's something for devs to build their stuff around. Teleporting isn't completely ideal, but it does allow you to have a fairly easy movement system. Other than that, I haven't heard anything about nausea issues in VR.

actually the 25 year old woman who doesn't play video games in my room 3 nights ago screaming bloody fucking murder at the sight of those same zombies in that video convincing me that the police would fucking show up makes me understand the potential VR has but, I'm talking to someone who has never tried modern VR so I don't expect much here

>When the console version is released it will blow up positively
You mean when the smartphone version matures. The console shit is already outdated.

It already has bombed. People just haven't realized it yet. Shit's more useless than 3dtv

So why are you trying to convince me so hard?
Why are you virtually playing all those wicked games that totally make bitches scream?

Read:

>Why are you virtually playing all those wicked games that totally make bitches scream?

wut

Yeah I figured that when somebody made the observation on Sup Forums recently that all the VR threads had entirely stopped.

Why aren't you*

>VIVE is comparable to model T
Neo Sup Forums everybody

60,000 vives installed already, rift still backordered for months, >200 vr listings on steam already, you might be confused when you keep seeing VR threads more and more this and next year, eventualy you'll jump aboard with the normies though lol

It's a tech meme.

The tech industry is a huge marketing bubble. Just a way to Sucker idiots out of their savings

The difference between fanboys and investors can be understood by how big either group thinks the number 60,000 is.

I've seen this exact post before

You can stop now, marketer-san.

and the billions invested into vr recently let you know whatwhat investers really think

The "Focus-based nausea" stuff seems like bullshit. I haven't experienced anything of the sort, and I don't think I've heard of anyone else who's had issues with that.

The acceleration thing can be an issue - I noticed that some people playing Hover Junkers would stumble when they tried to lean into the motion of the vehicle, expecting some momentum. This falls into the locomotion issue though, and can be largely solved with clever game design.

Can someone sum up why they think this will be successful? Can't be bothered reading the thread. I just honestly don't believe anyone can be this stupid.

>Can someone sum up why they think this will be successful?
Marketing. There's going to be Wii level campaigns from like 5 major companies and nothing short of health scares is going to stop it.

it already is m8

So it's a tech bubble

>So is VR any fun?
Yes but no full AAA games are released yet since nobody knows how to design a game for it. It was released too early, expect a second wave of VR hype once some full games start coming out
>does it really make you feel like you're in a video game or no?
Absofuckinglutely.
>feel scale and depth properly
>uncounciously do things you do in IRL like avoid bumping into tables and characters etc

None of the nerds i know own one

Normies don't even know what it is
B...but it's marketed online alot

Funny definition of success. Sounds like a typical tech meme to me

It's the Wii & 3D TV all over again.
Everyone with a bit of cash knocking about will own all the gear then use it less than 6 times before it collects dust.
To think I spent like 200 bongs on active 3D glasses.

By the time it's worth having/using the hype will be over.

It's OUYI all over again

>None of the nerds i know own one

>It's the Wii & 3D TV
comparing a 360 degree world that can be anything to a tv sitting in your room, hey look it's this post again
