I'm not a Blizzdrone, in fact I had to make a battlnet account for this game because I don't like their shit.
Overwatch is just good casual fun without shitty distractions like cash shops to dilute the experience.
No one is pretending it's fucking Quake 3, no one thinks it's a competitive shooter.
It's just a fun little game where you press Q to feel like a cool guy for 3 seconds and then someone else has a turn.

at this point it's impossible to say what the game will be 6 months from now. it's blizz though, they're not afraid to rework their games completely if they're bad (see: diablo 3)

i can see 2 things happening

>they release a bunch of new heroes, rework the balance to suit a competitive setting, nerf some of the ezmode abilities and heroes to require more skill, raise the tickrate, fix some of the awful maps, give everyone 1000 free loot boxes and cure cancer

or

>they'll release a bunch of new skins and quietly delete/deflect all criticism of the tick rate, poor competitive viability and poor map design

or some combination of those two things

hard to tell at this point

They don't have to be. Overwatch is great casual fun, it's just an issue when people think, because they're good at it (and likely suck at other games in the genre), that a painfully casual game in a particular genre should be treated competitively.
