No, they play completly differently, the gravity/momentum is ridiculous and adds needles frustration to simple movement and the control scheme for the gimick abilities (blow/grab) is attrocious.

The overrated music isn't even that good either.

It's shameful to see how much those awful games get shilled here.

They're both really great, but different in play style to the original trilogy. Play Returns on an emulator or hacked Wii with the "Use Classic Controller" or "B to Roll" gecko codes if you can.

3 is the overall most fun game with the best levels

Tropical Freeze is top fucking tier, but it controls differently than the old DK games.

DCKR is okay.

So the new ones don't have a lot of the fast paced tricks you can do in the originals? One of the fun thing in the first 3 was just comboing off enemies and getting the timing down

or 3DS as well, if you want it on-the-go

2, you could make an argument for 1 in how simple and perfectly crafted it is but 2 takes what was already perfect and makes it even better

Eh, I think 30 fps really hampers it on handheld, not to mention there's some missing content.

The only 3DS difference I knew about was the bonus levels that weren't in the Wii version, where there's a whole world after the K levels instead of just one level

It's a fucking fevered dream compared to the other two. There's a boss that's a giant barrel. There's a boss that's a face in a waterfall. There's a snowball fight with an evil snowman boss.

While it has a similar graphical style to the other two games, they're changed very slightly and evoke a strange feeling of uncanniness. The weird bear NPCs. The bees that are changed to saw things for whatever reason. How one of the two playable characters is literally a giant baby.

Whereas the other two games took place on islands, DKC3 takes place in this mountainous lake area with tall forests, cliffs and castles.

It's just a strange fucking game with a constant feeling of something being not quite right, but you can't put your finger on what.

2 was just perfect. Loved the pirate theme, the pacing, right number of gimmicks, best music and an awesome last boss,

3 was a great game, but Kiddy Kong was dire and it was too easy.

1 was good, but definitely the weakest looking back. Has dreadful bosses and not a lot of variety in its levels. Also the way it handles just feels... off. Still good for its time though.

My mistake, I recalled hearing shortly after release that it had lost a world not gained one. Guess I had it around the wrong way. I didn't play far enough into the 3DS version to realize.

3 had a lot of level design problems. Just like, sections that were bullshit. It also over relied on that damn elephant, and the boss fights were all shit.

And the music was mostly bad, outside of a few tracks. GBA version was a straight improvement.

Rare were always really funny, even before they stated making games with actual jokes.

Cant go wrong with an overall pirate team, these nice areas, and 2 characters that are fun and fluid to use.

Honestly, there are worse things kids could be playing than Mineycrafta.

Without having ever played the games, I'd be inclined to agree with this sentiment.

In the third game, you play as 90's Spunky Girl: The Character, and a big retarded baby.

It's a beautiful game, but it sure got a bit off track from being Donkey Kong.
