What build do I pursue so I don't get assreamed by demon cock?
ONE
Pure Magic like all SMT games
Are Physical or Support not viable?
World of STR, also your demons must cover each others weakness. Buffs and Debuffs will save your ass.
>he doesnt want to be assreamed by this sexy fucker
Are you some kind of fag, op? Because you sound like one
>using magic
Strength or guns, faggot.
Use a strength build. Get Focus and Fog Breath on your character.
Phys is but not for the whole playthrough. Like every SMT game you'll hit a point where pure STR will fail you because everyone will start resisting it
FULL STR
GET FROG BREATH AND WIN THE GAME
Planning on starting this game up in the next week or so. Here's a bump for you.
What's the best way to go about playing this shit?
>PS2
>PSN
>emulated
I have all three available. I wish I could play this shit on my vita though :(
Full luck gotta get dem items and crits
Last I checked there was an issue where you couldn't solve some ladder puzzle on emulator without fiddling with some settings.
That might have been fixed by now though.
SMT Nocturne is one of the few SMT games where it's extremely recommended to go straight up STR. Strength and raw physical attack are godly, and Demifiend is going to be your main damage dealer while the rest of your demons will be support, magic, and buff/debuff. You don't encounter a ton of Physical resist/null/reflect demons until 2/3 through the game.
That being said, your magic stat governs your magic defense as well so do not totally neglect it.
Use a guide to figure out which Magatama have which skills, and plan out your Demifiend. I know a lot of people frown on guides, but you have to level grind to unlock Magatama skills, and if you accidentally learn the wrong skills or pass certain level threshholds you can make it so much harder, or even impossible, to get the skills you want.
I usually have these skills on Demifiend:
Focus [THIS IS A MUST, NEVER DELETE IT], it buffs the next physical attack by 2.5x
Fog Breath
War Cry
Magma Axis (late game skill, it's technically a fire spell but it scales off of physical attack)
Single- Hit physical attack
Multi-hit physical attack
And then filler. I think a buff or something.
Also, last but not least, money is really fucking hard to come by and even late game demons don't drop money for shit. Don't be afraid to sell excess items, don't bother hoarding too much.
>STR>AGI>VIT
Strength will make you jacked as shit, Demi-fiend should be the hardest hitter in the party.
Agi will make sure you don't miss - this is essential in this game because missing makes you lose a turn.
Vit will let you not die, which is important.
Magic is for fucking faggots, don't bother with it. Make a cute demon waifu to handle spellcasting for you. Luck is pretty bad, level it after you are done with your important stats.
Also, make sure you learn the "Focus" ability. its VERY important.
>lying this hard
The best attack in the game is literally a physical skill that hits anything with full damage.
Completed true demon ending on emulator and had no issues it might have been fixed
Don't know anything about a ladder puzzle
Only pcsx2 problem is that an invisible maze becomes visible iirc
There are no builds in SMT. Like most JRPGs, stats are assigned on level up.
No it's like Torment and many other wrpgs where you get a stat on level up.
Don't feel embarrassed about talking out your ass tho!
>STR all the way
>Get Focus ASAP for Demi-Fiend; it makes your next physical attack deal 2.5x more damage for 5 MP
>Fog Breath is amazing. It drastically reduces the enemy's evasion and accuracy
>War Cry is good; it severely lowers an enemy's physical attack and magic attack
>Buffs and debuffs are crucial
>Balance out your demons' weaknesses and strengths; e.g. if you have a demon that's weak to Ice, have a demon that Null or Repels Ice because the Null/Repel will force the enemy to lose turns.
>Fuse Daisoujou as soon as you can and watch as he never runs out of MP while fully healing the party and removing all ailments and also nulls/repels quite a few attack types
Don't be afraid to use a guide to know what weaknesses to prepare against for boss fights. The game has some pretty rough boss fights.
Dont get attached to your fairy. She'll turn into an ugly butch
>Don't be afraid to use a guide to know what weaknesses to prepare against for boss fights.
Don't even read this post op.
Ignore this one too.
Ignore this post OP
Except in Persona 3 where magic is more important. I think P3 and the Devil Survivor games are the only ones in the franchise where magic is better than strength.
Naa, I wanna be surprised, I usually don't use guides. I will use one for how to get the necessary skills though - everyone seems to like Focus, War Cry, and Fog Breath
>getting a critical hit after Tarukaja casts and Focus
Never give up Focus, OP. Ever.
talk to everyone
and examine everything if you ever get lost
Naw fuck you bro, SMT Nocturne is hard as absolute fuck and some of the puzzles are incredibly tedious. OP, don't feel ashamed at using a guide every so often, that way you aren't wandering around and get your shit slapped by a fiend and lose hours of progress.
Also, you'll definitely want to use a guide for Puzzle Boy.
Oh yeah, before I forget; keep your starting fairy around. You can fuse her, but never sacrifice or part ways with her. The demon you fused her with will always be the first one in your party list, if you're having trouble keeping track of her.
Just trust me on this.
STR
Magic is way the fuck better than physical in Strange Journey.
>he used a guide
fucking pussies
i bet you used savestates too
Nah he already read and upvoted mine. Sorry m8.
If the magatama is shaking a lot then that means you're a high enough level to get the next skill.
But yeah the strongest skills are usually hidden in a skill tree you might otherwise ignore.
>SMT Nocturne is hard as absolute fuck
Nuh uh.
>puzzles
Yeah fuck puzzles. I don't play jrpgs for puzzles.
OP here, thanks for all the tips. I'm sure I'll post again if I ever get stuck. Also I'm playing on hard mode because I'm a masochist, so I'm glad I got some advice here first before being a total dorp
I started this game last week. I'm enjoying it so far, but it bothers me that I don't seem to have much say in how my allies develop.
I got rekt by the Matador today.
I thought spamming my almighty shotgun cannon was the best thing the mc could do? Is that magic?
Either puremagic or purestrength.
>Completely buff self
>completely debuff enemy
>Focus
>Free Cougers
>Get a critical
>Watch a boss get decimated in one hit
Also I know he wasn't meant to be a hard fight but punching the shit out of Sakakage (sp?) felt so good.
That's why you use phis-based almighty attacks.
I don't know if the puzzle comment is sarcasm but you cannot tell me you find Amala or the underpass areas to be pleasant.
I'm pretty sure it scales on magic? My character ended up as a maximum magic character for some reason and my almighty shotgun shells started out classing my late game demons.
My only problem is shadows.
>he used a guide on the Pyro Jack puzzle
>I don't seem to have much say in how my allies develop
Fusing.
You can customize and make your demons whatever you want them to be. Learning how to fuse is the most important part of this game.
Also, get buffs.
This post here is made by my nigga of niggas.
I went full strength and luck in my last playthrough, and I had fucking Soma to spare all the fucking time.
And then people get Freikugel, also known as the I win button.
And then you get Dante, also known as the I WIN HARDER button.
They're fun painful. Going through the amala ntwork was exciting because you never had any idea how badly you were about to be fucked.
The only unfair one was Beez since you have to have anti-death or something to survive him.
Also I'm the other poster too. Mine was a physical/agility character and he was doing a ton of damage with the almighty shotgun too. I have no idea tho.
Fuck you buddy, those last couple of puzzles were soul crushing.
The key issue with Matador is his mult-hit attack and Red Capote, which maxes out his accuracy and dodging statistic. Which means every time you miss an attack against him you lose a turn.
Therefore, try to find a way to lower his evasion stat. Fog Breath and Sukunda/Sukukaja will be your friend.
Maybe the gun is set damage then.
Anyway, I've never enjoyed the SMT series for its dungeon crawling; in fact, and I'm aware this is heresy here, I always felt that level and dungeon design were SMT's weakest aspects. I just fucking love the combat so damn much.
I believe if you're level 18, you can get Uzume through Fusion. Media is one of her default spells and she voids Force attacks. She'll be able to fully heal your party and cause Matador to lose turns when he uses Mazanma.
Thanks kind anons. Will do.
How's the music for this game?
So far I've played Persona 3, Persona 4, and a good bit of both of SMT IV and the first Digital Devil Saga. How's the soundtrack stack up?
DDS is easily my favorite. Fucking hell this song is the jam:
youtube.com
I love the music in DDS. It's great in all the SMT games I've played (though I haven't played 2, or the DS ones, and I can't remember how it is in P1)
The dungeons have always just been cool music + your own imagination imo. I agree that the demon raising and actual battles are the best part.
I had the Angel helping me out with healing, but then it swapped it out for another ability during a level up.
I'm level 19 now since I've been grinding. I'll have to take time to learn the fusion system. Thanks.
It's overrated but if you love the trash that was DDS's OST then you'll love Nocturne's.
Both SJ and IV had better OST
this is the best track in the game
Don't mind me, just being the best SMT
MORE
Nocturne has a very good OST. The battle themes are great.
youtube.com
I swear, by my sword and capote, that I will once again prove victorious!!
DDS ost is absolutely perfect for the setting in the game and most of it kind of loses some luster when listened apart from that. Spider's Thread Part II and Hunting are still great though.
SMT children are hilarious.
>mfw doing Hard Mode run and beating Lucifer's ass easily at the end with a team of Shiva, Metatron and Titania
God I love becoming OP as shit in RPGs.
>SJ
it has the best battle theme, but that's it
>DDS OST
>Trash
Holy shit. Could there be a man with worse taste?
Is normal mode the preffered starting difficulty?
Or does this game die out towards the end if you're not on hard mode, due to how retardedly strong your party gets?
Also, half of Matador's attacks are Force/Wind attacks, so have demons/yourself either being resistant to that or at least not weak to it. Any demon who is weak to force will give Matador an extra turn to attack. I do not believe Matador has any weaknesses though.
Matador is a major casual filter boss so don't be ashamed at sucking.
>second Dante fight
>attacks with Rebellion, E&I, and Stinger
>uses Showtime
>screen flashes with BINGO, ARE YOU READY, and SHOWTIME as he attacks your whole party with DMC style combos
How did Atlus get Dante so right?
>tfw I one-hit Chiaki
Never have I felt so powerful.
>Lucifer: You and 3 other dudes teaming up defeated me, therefore you can take my place as head demon.
Why?
Normal mode will be fairly balanced for you throughout the game save if you do the True Ending path and grind a lot, though even then you won't likely become too OP without a guide. Hard will break your balls if you're doing NG of it early on, but becomes far easier overtime once you got a decent party lined up.
Normal.
There are lots of boss fights so you never feel too strong, this applies to the whole series.
>take my place
Where did he ever say he was stepping down?
HE
I'll bite. Why is it the best?
What is wrong, user?
do you not seek the thrill of death?
Appreciate it, anons.
>I'll bite
Are you trying to imply you have shit taste and don't think it's the best?
I'm looking to enjoy my game, not suffer through it. I played SMT IV before and the first few hours of that game felt more like an RNG generator of death than a videogame.
I just started this one a few days ago. The alignment system is making it hard to recruit demons and exploit weaknesses.
At what point will this game really start to heat up? I'm only on the second floor of antillia.
I'm implying I haven't played it, so I have no clue if it is the best or not.
You raaaaang?
compared to Nocturne and 4 it actually has dungeons, however SJwarriors forget that demon co-op is a shit system that doesnt reward the opposition and only serves to cut party variety. and if you have a perfectionist personality god help you with the fusion system
REEEE
Get high str and get the skill focus. Never, ever drop that skill because it's useful throughout the entire game. Other details aren't that important.
Don't forget Pierce
It's gonna start kicking your ass when you reach the second sector
It gets easier, RNG is always there but the playcoin buyback system makes it feel like nothing
>Fully debuffed Trumpter and buffed myself
>Focus
>Freikugel
>Crit
>Killed him before his first toot
>Actually saying yes to changing skills
YOU FOOL
>not recommending Fog Breath to JUST an enemy's accuracy and evasion
This fucked me up something serious in Persona 4 so many fucking times.
Is it actually ever worth it?
I think every time I did it, I ended up having to reload my save.
Not that user, but the Persona games spoiled me real badly when it came to that stuff.
>Persona
>Oh look, now you have Victory Cry
>Oh look, Endure
>Neat shit
>Nocturne
>Oh, look, Wind Amp on a Physical Demon
>Oh look, Treasure Hunt
>Oh look, Agi
>Fuck you.
It is never worth it, I emulated every single PS2 SMT and never once would I get a result that wouldnt cause me to reload my state
It has helped me many times
I make a save state beforehand in case it sucks though
...
Yeah, I feel you on that. I got to the underworld or whatever before I ended up quitting that game. The story and characters were so ass though, for a series where I enjoyed the plots and characters so much.
Why was there no reaction, at all, to the fact that the underworld is completely different than what they had been taught?
I've had it be a huge help exactly one time: Alice in SJ skill swapped from some crappy Agidyne spell to an almighty spell I forget the name of. A high level one.
>using save states
I wish I could have played Golden on fucking emulator. Going back and doing dungeon floors, or grinding again, because of trying to change skills fucking pissed me right off.
Might emulate it just for this instead of playing it on the PSN, t b h.
except that's wrong in this game
