If I tell you it wouldn't be so sudden would it?
Undertale had a pretty quick switch
undertale
soul nomad has a twist or two in the main game
new game+ has a demon path which is a complete tone change from the main game
OFF
Go play the Demon Path of Soul Nomad just after beating the main scenario.
Go from savior of worlds to genocidal sociopath.
Dragon's Dogma has a pretty neat Act II.
...
best girl
Pokemon Explorers of Sky had a pretty big twist that led to some pretty dark stuff about 3/5 through the story.
Dead Space
PSO
Eversion
Muv-Luv
Eversion
Yume Nikki
Both are f r e e
Xenoblade does as well, although based on inference, I don't think it's the sort of sudden change you're looking for
Assorted Kirby games
Drakengard 1 (and maybe 3)
Oh fuck I remember this game
Damn that was some dark shit. Wilfre was pretty unsettling and especially after THE FUCKING MAYOR DIED. I'm surprised it got an E rating though, good on the ESRB for knowing what kids can handle.
etrian odyssey
the final dungeon is a skyscraper in a ruined city
Overwatch but only if you start thinking that the game will be any good.
Solatorobo did something like this.
Halo CE's introduction of the Flood blew my mind as a kid.
>the ending to 2
That was the probably the first time a vidya's story made me angry
It's weird that some people found them to be scary. I remember playing the game as a 17yo and my little cousins were watching me play. They were scared shitless by the little jellyfish jumping at me.
Can you specify what you're looking for?
"I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to YOU."
>Halo
>kid
Klonoa
999 and VLR.
The game came out fifteen years ago. Someone who was 8 when they played would be 23 now.
Yeah I know user it's almost like everyone isn't you!
that game is so good
this seems familiar but I can't remember what game
Kek
Combat Evolved came out in 2001, user. He could've played it when he was 10 and he'd be 25 today.
You do realize that the game came out in 2001 right?
Happy go lucky games that become horror stories halfway through and do it in a way that is a least a little scary and unexpected.
Halo: Combat Evolved was released in 2001. If they were even as young as 5 at the time they'd be 20 now.
I remember being pretty spooked at the changes to the main castle town in Hyrule where everyone becomes zombies in Ocarina of Time
Ah, know I remember
I don't recall the name either. It was a Japanese dating sim where if you promised to a certain girl that you'd love her forever, she'd remember it on your next play through. She speaks to the player directly and then "kills" you by deleting all your saves and crashing the game.
>no one said Nier
Nier
Monster Girl Quest
Dragon's Dogma
Digital Devil Saga
Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Soulless Army
This. Undertale is watered down tumblrina interpretation of OFF.
Bloodborne, ayy lmao
>bright goofy colors
>screaming midget aliens
>lol
>think of it as another scifi shooter
>suddenly dark jungle and zombies
>all your dudes die
Maybe you're just a kid who played Halo at age 12.
I bet you never even owned a PS1, or an N64.
This is like the epitome. Also Jak 1 to Jak 2.
Nier?
Do alternate routes count?
Soul Nomad, no doubt.
The twist legitimately fucked me up for a while, I'm still not over it entirely, it was done so fucking well.
In restrospect, I should have known there was something up about Nitrosoft releasing a familiar looking dating sim.
You seriously saying you never heard of Nier?
Isn't that an anime?
This is a fucked up game in general.
Never played it but I'm pretty sure it's a series of novels where the first one is a generic bog-standard romance thing
But then the sequel starts with a giant dick alien eating your girlfriend's head off
God-tier taste famalam
Nier
Witch and the Hundred Knight takes a strong 2nd place. This one is even better because it makes everything feel like the end of the game, only for you to realize you're only at the halfway point.
If someone played Halo: CE when they were 3 years old, they would be 18 years old now and be able to post on this website.
From what I've heard, the first game is a harem romance novel, and the 3rd game is an intergalactic war to save humanity from an alien invasion that threatens to destroy the universe.
I know nothing of how it goes from one to the other.
It brings to mind an image of game cover art where this dude is looking down and to the left. Or was it the one with the junky type guy looking straight at the viewer?
...
Ghost Trick
The former
>Maybe you're just a kid who played Halo at age 12.
>Halo Came out in 2001
>I was supposedly 12
>That makes me 27
>Kid
In Sol Trigger, Farel and his band of bros seek out to defeat the leaders of a religious nation that uses certain types of people as fuel in order to power the city and its tech. You spend a large portion of the game learning about the characters, the lore, development, etc.
After many hours of gameplay you reach the final boss and of course you challenge them. Thing is you lose. Everyone in your team, including you, gets slaughtered. The final boss wins, and the game skips 16 years later and you pick up where Fared left off as his son. A few characters from the original party survive but only like 2 if I remember correctly
One of my favorite games.
I see. What is the tweest?
What this classy gent said. Bloodborne has a major tone shift halfway through.
Nier never starts out happy though
id only count it as two games actually, muvluv extra is a culmination of the first harem seires plus paths for all the other girls and includes some stuff that happens before the scifi part of it. It's actually pretty good. i'd recommend it to anyone willing ti sit through how long it takes and in for the long run. i went in expecting to be bored out of my mind, came out a fucking sobbing emotional mess
>Really want to hear nier after hearing all the good things about it
>Don't want to bring PS3 down from attic
Never really cared much for HD remakes, but fuck I want one of this.
Unless you played the game for the first time in 2011.
Fire Emblem Blazing Sword
ninian ;_;
I cry every time
...
...
It was actually a pretty generic twist. YOU are the badguys all along but you have to be or your daughter dies she dies anyway and you doom humanity in the process
How fucking fat are you?
This
Came in this thread just to say this
The shit that goes down in the second half is a mindblowing wild ride.
RIP Nero and Blanc
>Eyebrows/eye visible through hair
Why do japs do this. Same with adding shiny spots on tits, knees and asses that end up looking like boils.
I'm not. But I don't remember what box it's in and it's a huge pain in the ass for 1 (ONE) game that I've already gotten lightly spoiled on.
OP never said anything about starting out happy
Nier started out gloomy and got elevated to FUCK! levels
I want to do this with my friends. Just grab cute little girls and tie their sweaters. It'll be hilarious.
Any of you guys up for it?
>Don't want to bring PS3 down from attic
you dont deserve this game
see
Hotline miami 2
Yer just after the high of playing the best level in the game when suddenly you and your brother get shot in the head by some random mafioso.
Shit got fucked after that.
While not during the first playthrough, Silent Hill Shattered Memories had an ending which completely recontextualizes second runs.
Bloodborne is one of my favorites. The more the game goes on, the more fucked up it gets. I love it.
Chaos world in SMT4 was pretty fucking metal, Humans are enslaved by demons and they have turned the earth into an eternal warzone, it was dark before but the alternate dementions kicked that darkness into overdrive
youtube.com
is it? heard it was mediocre. isn't it a sequel to tail concerto?
Still my favourite portable game of all time.
>Game ends
>Game doesn't actually end
>Get ready for a fucking ride
>tfw you realize you were the bad guy
The one DS game where the major twist is that the bottom screen was from the perspective of a different character from the past
That twist rekt me
Eversion
Assassin's Creed
Witch's House and Wadanohara both have good twists if you don't mind RPG Maker games.
The Mother series as a whole, really.
Muv Luv
>it will never get a remaster
GOD DAMN IT
